I suspect we won't see a trade, unless....

Guess it depends on what he wants. If successfully filling a role for which ones talents are tailor-made is something he's interested in, then re-signing here seems relatively likely. If it's all about playing the most minutes and/or making the most money, then he's gone.
it also depends on MONEY, how much he wants and how much other guys want. You can't pay Hendo and Crabbe if they get close to 10 mil each plus or minus a little, Crabbe may get more as RFA's who are improving and shoot well often get overpaid, especially so with so much capspace available this summer. So not only do they have to choose but so do we, tough calls.

The question is will Meyers the Expiring be moved?

He turned down a contract extension "betting on himself"?
He played only 13 minutes last night.

I would LOVE an expiring Leonard for an expiring Ryan Anderson.
Meyers is NOT an "expiring", he is a RFA ("restricted" free agent"). That means he can get an offer from another team and POR has the right to match and keep him if we want. A UFA like Hendo or Ryan Anderson can go to any team he wants and if he does not pick the Blazers there is nothing we can do.

shocking everyone is swayed by a small stretch of good play by a player and now they dont want to trade him.
guys.....hes gone no matter what next year. he wants to be a starter and we are not gonna pay him starter money to have him come off the bench. if anything his play has driven up his value to as a player who can contribute for a contender or as an expiring contract.
if you put his contract together with kaman i believe thats roughly 10-11 million. yes the cap is exloding next year but that amount of money is still a good chunk.
the difference between a player fro 20M than a max player at 30M....plus you can throw in a good asset like one of our younger guys that are restricted next year to give the team we trade with an option
.

You lost me. You are saying trade Kaman and Henderson (10-11 million worth of expiring contracts) plus one of our restricted FA's to a contender for what? A player or a draft pick?

Really? When was your interview with him? When did he state he wants to be a starter just because he used to start? Yes, odds are you are probably right, but Its not in stone, he hasn't made such a comment and I think he is smart enough to know that he could have a bright future as our 6th man.
I don't think its such the foregone conclusion you are painting it out to be. that 30 million max player isnt just gonna sign here right now. unless you did that interview too? Who is that max 30 mil a year player that will sign here that its so important to shed Hendo's salary for?

Im not opposed to trading him if the right trade comes along, but you dont just trade him because you "think he wants to be a starter and wont stay" These are conversations for NO and the player and I highly doubt NO is gonna let the media or us in on those details

Personally, I'd rather deal Aminu as well, as I think Harkless has a much higher ceiling. Or if there were some way to turn Aminu/Harkless/Leonard into a major upgrade at SF, I'd absolutely be down for that.
Neither are the future at SF. Id rather have Crabbe at SF and reel Aminu in a package for a star (Horford), but teams would rather have Crabbe by far. I wouldn't mind trading Aminu though because it'd open up more cap space next year.

well if you were giving up that much money wouldnt it have to be for a player? i guess i didnt specify but if i was using common knowledge i would think, if we were giving up that much in contracts(lets say 13 mil) between kaman, gerald and a young RFA that you would most likely be getting a player back unless that team can take on that much money for this year.
gerald can be used to trade for a good player on a contract in that money range...or he could be the perfect aaron afflalo type trade last year. u heard some team gave up a first round pick and will barton for that chump.
and maybe i watch too much talkin ball, listen to the radio too much and read all the articles around the blazers but gerald thinks hes a starter in this league and wants to stay a starter. if i didnt have a life i would try to find it for you.
if you think gerald is going to stay here to come off the bench well...sorry. if you think we're going to pay gerald 12-15 million to come off the bench well...sorry
you dont trade him cause you think he wont stay? boy i wonder what we could have gotten for lamarcus last year...
next time i interview him ill be sure to let you know lil sassy gal

Yeah I tend to agree; if we were better we might even look to trade for a contributor now or if we were worse we might look to tank but being a .500 team looks like we just stand pat.

Hendo has impressed me since I ripped on him in his thread... Sure we'd trade him for a good asset but that doesn't seem likely so why not keep him and could even consider resigning him in the summer if his offer's don't get all Wes Matthews crazy.

Standing pat will also give the players a nice $$$ bonus if we don't acquire anyone else, a nice reward for them and a future selling point in free agency. Now if another team gives us a first for our cap space sure we do it but I just don't see any teams looking to dump salary with enough of an asset for us to care. Better to make Miami type teams pay the repeater tax, get a cut of their money and hamper them down the line.

I like the idea of using the salary floor bonus as a thank you to overachieving youth. Any move to acquire vets would just take that away and take time away from growing our young guys. That's a lose-lose scenario.

You said you wanted to trade Kaman and Henderson for a player in order add cap space? So yeah it had to be for an expiring contract. But if that was the goal then we could simply just not trade them. And then just not resign them...... and still obtain the same goal.

If we got a draft pick back then that's a different story. That is why I was asking. I just don't' see the advantage of adding Kaman to the package. He has no value for a team unless they lost their center. Plus I doubt a contender would give us anyone good back that is making 11 million. And if they did we wouldn't save on cap space. The draft pick is the only thing that makes sense to me.

Damn nobody is safe from some of you guys!

I say we trade everybody but Dame so that we can trade the people we trade for and get some more people to trade.

Nice right?

And then when we are done with that, we will trade for them all to come back here again.

Before reading through this, I mostly agree with the premise - we won't make a trade for the future that negatively impacts the present. I've also been reading posts about players people would and wouldn't trade - here's my list, operating under the premise that the trade must be both for the present and the future:

Aminu - He has some amount of value.
Davis - I like him, but I'd trade him and he has some amount of value.
Henderson - Ditto Davis.
Plumlee - Ditto Davis/Henderson.
Kaman - Really a non-factor for this team, probably doesn't have much value (so trading him doesn't have to take the present into consideration).

That's really it. I'd trade Crabbe/CJ/Vonleh, but it'd have to be a huge, obvious win for us. Trading Meyers isn't going to bring anything of value back to us - I'd rather have the option to match offers. Ditto Harkless. And the "unmentionables" aren't worth mentioning.
