I think the plan is to trade the pick

Ayton, Scoot and #9 and a future first for Sobonis? Then we keep Ant.

Ant
Sharpe
Deni
Grant
Sobonis

Would that starting 5 be good enough?
We first need another borderline allstar for it to make sense. That roster isn't contending for shit and you gave up two picks, young prospect for a player thats going to get worse every year on a huge contract.

We do have the assets to bring in a Sabonis level player. But we need more than that to be a contender and I don't see how we could bring in both.

Thing is you add Sabonis he can play some 4 too. Plus who's to say that one of the youngster won't really pop next year?

Sabonis isn't a PF. I heard a lot of "Ayton can play PF" last summer...and he never did. He just doesn't have the mobility. Neither does Sabonis in my view

I know the chatter is Sabonis played PF in Indiana, but I remember those teams and it was Myles Turner who almost always defended opposing PF's while Sabonis guarded the C's

Should we just start calling Bert the GM? He doesn't get nearly enough heat for his bullshit.

He gets to operate in the shadows and let Joe catch all the criticism?

The question I have is whether he is really making any "GM" decisions? Does he just want these weekly meetings to feel important?
Does he want them so that there is direct communication on a weekly basis? Was Neil Olshey a secrative ass that rarely communicated with them and they had no idea what was going on? Do Chauncey and Joe hate or like the meeting? I have bosses that I hated meeting with, and some where I enjoyed it. I doubt we will know until one is fired and talks to the media.

That's the problem. We don't know. He doesn't seem to have an official role. He's not the President of the team. He's not the GM. He's not the owner..... but he seems to be acting like the owner. Dude needs to come out of the shadows and own any part he plays in the team.

Jody is the Chairman of the Board, and Bert is the Vice Chairman of the Board. That seems pretty official, even if we don't think he is worthy of it.

I'm pretty sure Bert in maneuvering to become the next owner. He has the network to put a deal together. We'll see.. for some reason a lot of fans don't like the guy. I don't have a problem with him at all or Jody as far as that goes. They are just not public personalities like Cuban or Ballmer.

It has crossed my mind many times. What team needs a lotto pick but is willing to part with younger talent?

I don't think the goal is necessarily to get younger. We need vets on the team for stability, but they need to be willing to back up a young core. Simons is a high quality starter with some weak points, and shouldn't have to sit on the bench behind Scoot. Same with Ayton and Clingan, Grant and Camara. But we should have experienced guys behind both players. Look for them to take a couple of expensive vets willing to play from the bench.

Simons and the 10 for Dame lol lmao

Bert has input on all decisions. Joe brings deals to the table. Mike brings scouting reports. Bert really is final decision.

I've never heard anything good about Bert. Lots of bad.

Drexler says publicly that Bert gotta go.

Be gone Bert.

And Jody, if you don't want to get rid of Bert (and give us a pro to run the team) then you can be gone too.

I like the idea of Sabas on the roster but when your roster building he does not fit with this team -- it's easy to want this guy and another but sometimes they do not mesh as a unit in terms of defense and such.

He might be the one to sign off on everything, but is he saying no to anything they want? I would be surprised if he vetoed their draft picks. They have overpaid almost every Blazer, so I doubt that has been a problem unless he demanded they be overpaid.

Maybe he just wants to know what's going on, which does not seem too out of the ordinary for an ownership group. Paul made the final decisions too, and at least at first he didn't know shit about basketball either. I would be more concern if he was making stupid ass trades like the Sun's owner demanded.

i'm sure it's a lot of insufferable 'remember when' storytelling.

'you know, we had this charles barkley deal on the 1 yard line, and when we started talking to his agent [leans back in chair and smiles] it turns out chuck wouldn't...' etc. etc. etc.

Nice outside of the box thinking. You might be onto something there. Does he have the financial assets/partners? does he must buy a majority share off Jodi and she becomes silent?
Would Kolde move on from Vulcan?

There is no single move this team can make over the summer that makes them anything more than a playoff/playin team. Now is not the time to trade a frp + vet salary for a better vet. They have to keep drafting talent and looking to acquire as many picks as possible and avoid the type of move that negates what they've started building.
Look where OKC is today. They got there by getting as many picks as they could, then building through the draft. It's going to take several years to get to that point and trying to speed up the process will only set them back.
Get rid of vets for as much draft value as possible and stay the course. Anything else will just lead to another rebuild sooner than later.

I tend to agree. Let the cake bake

Why? I don’t really think he has to do anything.

First rumor of the offseason....apparently we're trading Grant, Timelord and 2 first round picks for Lauri Markkanen with the Jazz

I doubt this rumor is true but let's play for a minute that it MIGHT be true --- Why

I mean he is better then Grant but I kind of feel they are similar only younger and a little bit better of a rebounder .. NM .. he is better cause Grant cannot rebound unless ball falls in his arms. Now IF you told me it's this or keep Grant for another year then maybe but seems like a lot for a minor upgrade. If I were to grade this deal I would give it a C maybe a C plus but leaning more at the lower of the two.

It makes sense to me. Lauri is an allstar which we lack and is a scorer which we need...if this was the trade deadline deal that is getting revisited it's probably because of the draft capital...Ainge loves him some picks. Markennan is only 27...he's in his prime

I like it, and it would change my view on the need for Ayton and or Simons. Their D is fine right now, their half court O is not. Lauri helps the offense. It would give Chauncey more options to play with that includes 3 talented scorers on the floor.

Deni, Sharpe, Camara, Lauri, and Clingan
or
Scoot, Sharpe, Camara, Lauri and Deni
or
Scoot, Sharpe, Deni, Lauri, and DC

But of course, there is his salary...which is a little high..

Lauri is an interesting idea. But I tend to think Ainge will demand too much in a trade.

Even if the cost was fair value I wouldn't do it unless we could also add a Sabonis type of vet to be a legit contender. Without being a contender it's not worth the cost to lose multiple draft picks and pay Lauri ~$60 million per year.
