You know the majority of the Blazers fan base was pretty meh on Deni before he was traded here. Just saying….

I have a sneaky feeling that if Zion was on the Knicks or Lakers or another of the top market's, he would be a lot healthier...and probably in better shape.

Morant is a JR Rider.

Zion or LaMelo are a different kind of problem.

Trae would be the kind of scoring engine that we need.... but he's so small and also kind of a dick.

I'm not really excited about any of them but I can see the appeal.

Trader Bob had a blank check and zero cap restrictions with one of the wealthiest owners in the NBA..that is the biggest difference between him and GMs that followed. He wasn't a chemistry guy at all though...just best player available..he should be known as "blank check Bob"

THE wealthiest owner in all of pro sports, I believe. And I believe at the time he was the wealthiest by a lot.

Great point. Trader Bob had significant advantages.

What about guys who are happy and think everything is fine when they lose and dont play well just because they got paid? We dont like those guys either right?

But your missing that upside of an all-star that happens all the time in the lottery while never for backup veterans.

People point to the Deni trade, but that 2024 pick wasn't even the most valuable pick in the trade, Brogdon was coming off being the Blazers most effective player, and Deni improved much more than many of us or likely Washington expected.

If they think they are only getting "an OK backup" then I would for sure trade the pick. There have to be higher expectations with the 10th pick than 'ok backup'.

10th pick doesn’t really get me excited.

I still believe in Scoot but personally I’m extremely high on Harper, I would consider a Scoot and 1st rounder to move up and get him. Sure who ever has that 2nd pick will probably want more and I think I’d probably pay more to get him.

Sabonis is another nice fit, high energy guy who is elite offensive player. Problem what would it take, Off the table players for me is Sharpe, Tou, and Deni.

Zion is still intriguing to me. Yes risky but talent wise he’s elite and yes exactly the type of player that would make us contenders. Sure the cost would be more than we are willing to pay. Guessing Tou, Deni or Sharpe and at least 2 1st rounders

My impression is that NO is just sick of him and it would not take that much to get him.

You are right, the cost might be too high if there is any type of bidding war. There are a couple of teams that could throw more than two 1sts at them.

But Zion is still a risk because of his injuries, so I would only be willing to trade Grant, Simons+, or Ayton. (plus two 1sts) No way would I trade Deni or Sharpe. Probably not Camara either. (I just value his D too much)
 
1. TraderBob was fun in free agency. KP was fun in the draft. A lot of good times. Some not good because chemistry matters.
2. Hands off Deni and Toumani — 68 minutes out of 240 are accounted for. Clingan off the table for a while.
3. Jabari Smith seems like a target for Portland for a bit, but it depends on the cost (and if Golden State beats them). As a small ball center? Stretch 4/5? If Schmitz likes him, I’m in.
4. Markkanen got paid and is not good on D. I prefer both Toumani and Deni.
5. Scoot is a starting NBA PG with plenty to improve. With that said, BPA in the draft tiers with positional size winning any ties.
 
I will say out of all the players I have seen Zion MIGHT be a risk worth taking as long as were getting rid of at least one of Ayton , Grant or Ant in the deal. I have big reservations about Zion BUT if he can even get 80% right he is a top 50 or better -- easy. I am just not sure if he can be counted on for a min. of 60 games a season plus hopefully the playoffs even if he has to be put on a minutes restriction of 25 to 30 min per game.

The Blazers don’t have to make a swing like Zion. Nope.
They do need to deal with Grant and their expiring contract guys — DAEC, ASEC, RWEC, MTEC.

No way would I give up Sharpe and two FRPs. They can have the two FRPs and keep Olynyk.

EDIT: I am always late to the party on wanting coaches fired or specific, young players traded. Shaedon is no exception. So a trade for a guy who refuses to keep his weight down and stay healthy is unwise …

Gotta attach a pick to get rid of Ayton. I think Ant is an asset that can be traded for assets. Jerami IMO would have to go to a team looking for a last piece to fit a championship puzzle.
That team would have to not care about going over the cap.

Use the Zion situation
Ayton would give them significant cap relief going into 2026
A lot of free agents that summer

Grant has 3 years left..a contender would have to be desperate, have a need for Grant and have a window of at least the next two years.
Lakers come to mind but center is a bigger hole for them.
Maybe a team like Indy?

If we really want rid of Ayton just let him expire next year. No need to give up anything.
