Only 6'7", but yeah. Why, is he a tall white guy with limited athleticism?
Gym rat?Elite shooter, solid team defender equipped with a high BBIQ
Gym rat?
Coaches kid?
Deceptively quick?

I think we need a thread to consolidate trade rumors. I have no idea who this guy is but according to his twitter he has called stuff before.
Thank goodness that Smart's contract doesn't come close to matching CJ's... we don't need more short guards... that's not what this team needs. Good grief.
Did you see what happened to Norm when he tried to defend a real forward during the Denver series... he got slaughtered. If we needed another good guard, this would be great but Marcus Smart never has to defend guys bigger than him because the Celtics haven't ever bought into the nonsense that is "positionless basketball". That shit is all well and good on offense but you just can't roll out a bunch of short dudes on D. Marcus Smart and Norman Powell will get eaten up by 90% of starting small forwards in this league. They are both guards and they aren't even big guards. Not a huge Marcus Smart fan but how is his size an issue? 222 lb guard with a 6'9" inch wingspan who is an excellent defender.
How comparable are Smart & Powell? Powell I believe is a better shooter. I know Smart played a lot of PG too and does hand out assist. Not a huge Marcus Smart fan but how is his size an issue? 222 lb guard with a 6'9" inch wingspan who is an excellent defender.

if one of the pieces was Robert Williams, that might be interesting. If another component was reducing Portland's cap by 10-12M, that would also be attractive
but probably not enough to mask the disappointment of spending all this time talking about Simmons and Siakam to only end up with Smart

I'd rather have Siakam or Simmons than capspace
sure....but I think the chances either ends up a Blazer are fairly small. While the chances that Dame demands a trade if Portland just runs it back and fails again are high. He might not even wait for them to fail
problem is Smart, CJ. and Powell are all SG's. I don't think having two is a good idea, anymore than playing Powell at out of position at SF was a good idea
What "pieces" do the Celtics have that would make up the SEVENTEEN MILLION difference in salaries?
hard to keep track of everything, but tomorrow, they might have 15-20M in cap-space
Unbalanced trade - they could take on CJ's salary and just give up Smart's.

Smart is good on D - no question - he's a slightly smaller Draymond (same personality, too). But he's very poor on O (albeit not terrible 3%) and he can't really play PG. Except he thinks he can.
If there's anything to this, I wonder if Chauncey thinks highly of Smart?
If Norm walks and we can't put a package together with CJ that lands us Simmons... I couldn't give a fuck about what we do. If Norm walks I think the Vulcans should fire Neil and the new GM should start a total tear down and rebuild on day one. There is no way Dame is staying for long if we don't get better... so there is no fucking way that Dame is staying around if we get worse.Agree to disagree on the never guarded bigger players for Boston. He is considered by Celtic fans as an excellent defender at multiple positions. But that is a different debate and not relevant in my mind. We have Little for the SF position. If we lose NP then having a bigger defensive-minded guard who can play some point would not be the worst thing to go along with Dame and ANT. Hoping Mudiay has improved enough to do that.....at a cheaper price. (But he is not as good) Regardless we would need more in return for CJ than Smart
I could kind of talk myself into it just because Smart would become a total fan favorite if we got him.He can legitimately hold his own defensively at the 1/2 and 3. Plays much bigger - like Draymond as you mentioned.
However, he’d surely be plan C if Simmons/Siakam fails. Anticlimactic but is totally an Olshey type of move.
