If CJ were to be traded, who are we most likely to get?

Value-wise, certainly! I was trying to make more of the point that if there is a chance Morey can get Dame, he won't want to potentially assuage the tense star situation in Portland (though frankly, I have no idea if such a move would do it for Dame).
Well then Morey is stupid. At the end of the day, if Dame goes on the market, Philly is not the only (or even the most likely) suitor.

And I don't think Morey is stupid.

It's not that tricky, they fact is both Dame and Simmons are under contract through 2024... if Dame picked up his option it would be 2025. The gamble is will Ben Simmons get better or at least play at the best level he has so far. If he plays at least at his past best then we'll be able to put players around Dame and Simmons that make us relevant.

I'm talking about how to protect the picks.

I don't Think Philly will trade us Simmons for CJ and picks because they are trying to fuck us over with Dame

If CJ is the best fit and we add the picks they want, they aren't going to be bitter when we tell them that their offer for Dame isn't even the one we'd take if Dame were traded which he won't be. The snake oil salesman better sell.

it's a double edged sword, really. if dame wants out, i really want to blow it all up and have no interest in taking back Simmons, even if they throw in Maxey/Thybulle.

It's why I kinda want to move past Philly in these potential CJ trades. Don't think they're a good trade partner.

I want to say that maybe there are trades on hold for CJ that make perfect sense but Olshey is waiting on a possibly indecisive Norm. Maybe Neil's plan is that if Norm signs elsewhere he blows up the team but if Norm signs here, he'll make a trade sending CJ and assets out and getting back an impact forward.

More likely he's just waiting on Dame to return from the Olympics, then sell him on the team he signed being good enough to compete in the west.

"Look Dame, we got Cody Zeller and Abdel Nader. Check out Zeller's percentiles defending the pick and roll and Nader's percentile on catch and shoots!"

"What you're not impressed? Well hmm, okay....."

If that team doesn't have Norm on it... I don't think Olshey makes that sale.

In all seriousness I think Dame and Neil will reconvene after the Olympics. At that point they can discuss about the roster signings and whether those signings are enough. If not, hopefully Dame pushes Neil to do something drastic. I'll bet Neil will try his hardest to convince Dame that he doesn't need to.

Good old "Kick the Can" Olshey.

Kicking the can isn't exactly urgency. I really think Neil should be careful with how he handles Dame if he's done next to nothing to improve the team by the time Dame gets back. If he's condescending to Dame, maybe Dame just tells him that he needs to be traded.

I don't think any of us have any idea how Dame feels or thinks right now. But we do have a pretty good idea how he rolls. Loyalty is STILL huge inside him. Just because Neil doesn't seem to be doing anything right now, doesn't mean he's not running around like like a dude with his head on fire, trying to improve the team. Neal is a man with pride. And desires to accomplish great things, as much as anyone. I don't buy that he's of the mindset that he's got a cushy job, and is above having to perform. Paul Allen would have shit canned him long ago. And i'm pretty positive that Dame has a hotline to & from Neal.

Alright, now I'm convinced you are Neil. What are you doing, Neil? Get back on the phones!

Dame is a pretty smart guy and he has a good agent. He's well aware of what resources the Blazers have available to make changes this summer (few) and that most often summer is free agent time and before the deadline is trade time. It seems pretty likely that Olshey will make re-signing Norm priority No. 1, get the best player he can with the TPMLE, and look for a vet or two that he can pick up on a vet's minimum deal. I'm also sure that he's looking at just about every trade idea involving CJ and/or other players that could bring back an impact player. One thing I'm also pretty sure about is that Dame won't stand for a downgrading of the roster like some of the dump-CJ-for-a-couple-of-role-player deals I've seen rumored. Dame and CJ remain friends and I don't see Dame throwing a tantrum if it takes until the deadline to find a deal that nets a reasonable return.

I can't fucking believe it.

In OLSHEY we trust!

if he can pull off ANY reasonable trade involving CJ he’s done what most of us here have been asking for!

A blockbuster deal:

CJ +’Nurk for KAT

or

CJ + whatever for Simmons

or somehow Leonard agrees to play with the Blazers

OLSHEY = Exec of the Year

Im certain we could get meyers to return

What a great fucking day! Norm signed an incredibly team friendly contract that shows a lot of commitment. That being said all of that elation has swept through me and I'm back to consternation because of this thread topic. What in the fuck are we going to get for CJ and whatever it is we better get it soon. I swear if we got one more good bench contributor with the taxpayer MLE we would be a move away from keeping Dame happy... which means fielding a team that if healthy can get lucky and beat any other team.

Does anyone actually think that if Olshey caved in and said, "OK, CJ, three firsts and three swaps for Ben." that Morey would say no? He wouldn't and Ben would be a superstar here. Instead of a team led by an asshole like Embiid, he'd be supported by the best leader and teammate in the game. He'd have a coach that is going to challenge him but not scream and yell until his vocal chords are permanently frayed. He would have a city that absolutely embraces him. The guy would be the best we've seen from him on opening day and only get better from there.

Morey might say no. He wants the Blazers to fail so he can get Dame

A sign and trade for DeRozan using CJ would be interesting.
It would hard cap us and we're already likely going to be within 5M of the apron... so that wouldn't give us much flexibility to take on extra salary in a trade if we needed to.

At the same time... hey maybe Neil is going to do everything he has to in order to keep us under the luxury tax again this season because he said that we'd spend whatever tax it took to win and we all know he loves doing the opposite of what he says. In that case he wouldn't really worry about getting hard capped.
