If the Cavs called tomorrow... (2 Viewers)

Though fun, I hope we all realize how silly this discussion is. This is basically considered by most to be the best draft since 2003. If Cleveland is interested in trading their pick, there will be an absolute bidding war for it. There's no way they would end up offering us so much in addition to the pick for Aldridge, when they'll most likely get several other offers that won't involve gutting their roster in the hopes of luring LeBron.

This.

Pair LMA with Deng and you'll see two guys taking shots one step in from the 3 pt line.

If the Cavs could convince Deng to stay by trading away some of their troublemakers (they already got rid of their lame coach), then a Aldridge-Irving-Deng core would be very enticing if I were a Cavs fan and a playoff team in the East for sure.

Why not just convince Deng to sign with Portland as a FA? An LMA, Deng, Batum, Lopez, Lillard core is more inticing....

I wasn't comparing the two at all. I was making the point that there's a critic for everyone, even LBJ. In fact, he has cited his critics as his motivation. So, one scouts criticism doesn't particularly faze me.

Those are the most positive 'weaknesses' I think I've ever seen for a player. Basically, he can't control the hype, and his FT shooting is under 70%.

...and that's it. What a lock that guy was to be an MVP. Comparing Wiggins to James is just so unfair to Wiggins. I think Wiggins will have a nice Rudy Gay career, and possibly become Paul George if he learns how to shoot.

or discuss an LMA trade more rationally? the #1 pick in this draft would be as much as we could expect, all these add ons coming to POR are ridiculous

Actually no. If the Blazers were to trade Aldridge, he's a proven asset in the NBA. Where as a Draft pick is a rookie and unproven. Could have injuries like oden did. To get an proven asset like Aldridge or Love a team must give up more than just picks. four players is a little homerish. but including 1 piece in it with the pick isn't out of the ball park. Especially being this thread was called "if the cavs call tomorrow" Not "if the Blazers offered Aldridge" that plays a factor in it as well.

Offering the #1 pick in a "supposedly deep draft" does not pull superstars from teams.
Unless rebuild mode, player wants out, or inability to stay on court/play through injuries.

This is a very good point. Based on the thread title (which essentially insists that we're playing in fantasyland), the homer posts make sense. "If they called tomorrow, I would ask for..."

This is a deep draft but the #1 pick isnt in the same class prospect wise as Oden, Durant, LBJ, or Davis was.

Joel Embiid very well could be. I think people are just worried about his health especially here in the Portland area. Being that we haven't had good luck with drafting centers. You don't get compared to greats like Tim Duncan/Akeem Olajuwon for nothing.

Joel could be amazing but that still doesnt mean he is viewed as those I mentioned. All 4 werent just viewed as star players but as sure fire superstars and that was true for some of these prospects before they played their college ball and now the general concensus has changed.

I'm not so sure. Embiid's college stats are really close to Oden's, better than Hakeem's, etc., at the same age. He really came from nowhere to be strongly considered for the #1 pick in a strong draft.

He's currently #1 in NBADraft.net's mock and #3 on draftexpress.com's

Have their been any actual REPORTED trade offers out there regarding the Blazers? I have seen nothing.

If the Knicks can trade Mello to the 76ers for the 3rd pick I might consider it.Chandler, Shumpert and #3 for Aldridge?
ALDRIDGE WON'T BE TRADED. PERIOD.

And the only reason we make that particular trade is that we're shooting for a high lottery pick next year, and probably the year after that.

You really think LA can get back two number one draft picks? I will say this, If Olshey thinks Wiggins has LeBron James kind of talent, I don't think there is any question on what he should do.

no I don't think Aldridge can get two #1 picks.
But that's the only way if I were the Blazers GM that I'd go backwards.
I refuse to go backwards for Waiters and a #1 or Thompson and a #1 or even just the #1

I wouldn't trade LaMarcus for both of the top two picks in this, or any other draft.

WOW, that is among the worst homer offenses ever. Lets see going back 30 to 10 years ago.
1984 I would trade LA for Olajawon every second of everyday do not even need Bowie at #2.
1985 Patrick Ewing again not even a hesitation especially with Wayman Tisdale included
1986 Brad Daughterty and Len Bias yes please
1987 David Robinson and Armen Gilliam seriously is this even a ? anymore
1988 Danny Manning and Rik Smits no question
1989 Was the first year I would decline and had Pervis Ellison stayed healthy that could have changed
1990 Derrick Coleman and Gary Payton all day
1991 Grandmama Larry Johnson and Kenny Anderson this is closer but still would make the deal
1992 Shaq and Alonzo Morning Easy for either let alone both
1993 Chris Webber and Shawn Bradley easy
1994 Glenn Robinson and Jason Kidd again come on
1995 Joe Smith and Antonio McDyess I will decline based on McDyess injury history
1996 Allen Iverson and Marcus Camby yes please
1997 Tim Duncan and Keith Van Horn no need to ask
1998 Michael Olowokandi and Mike Bibby I will decline
1999 Steve Francis and Elton Brand yep
2000 Kenyon Martin and Stromile Swift this one is a decline
2001 Kwame Brown and Tyson Chandler decline
2002 Yao Ming and Jay Williams yep
2003 Lebron James and Darko easy
2004 Dwight Howard and Emeka Okafor yep

Only 5 years I declined and that was typically because of an injury or one of the picks being a bust. 2001 swap Kwame with Pau and its a sure thing trade. 2000 one of the worst drafts ever swap Swift for Mike Miller and we got a deal. 1998 Swap Olowokandi with Pierce, Nowitzki or Carter and we got an easy deal. 1995 swap Joe Smith for Garnett or Sheed and we got a deal. 1989 swap Ferry for Tim Hardaway, Glen Rice or Shawn Kemp and we got a deal.

Give me the two best players out of any draft class and they are worth trading a 29 year old LA for. Even factoring injuries and mistakes trading LA was worth it 75% of the time.

Sorry, thought the word "future" being implied was obvious.

Might wanna have a doctor take a quick look at your knee, you can do some serious cartilage and ligament damage jerking that hard...

If you look at the last few years it's still a big return. Basically saying no to the two top players in the draft

I am amazed this thread has god so long. Isn't this idea dead yet.

Did we win a title? No, we got skull fucked by the Spurs while our supposed best player struggled against Thiago Splitter. There is no better reason than that to continue the conversation.
