doesn't Phoenix make sense as a likely destination? Shaq has been on record as saying he wants to play with VC more than anyone else before (as a guy he could get over the top) and he's been playing really well for you guys but you're not going anywhere this season right? VC is your only long-term contract (other than Harris). Wouldn't moving him now (while value is up and injury free) and getting a better draft pick be a better value long-term (with almost no salary after next season)?
In Phoenix stuff is a disaster, if they're going inside out they need a slasher bad, and VC is the guy, Nash is relegated to duties he can do, but doesn't excel at, is no driver, and has no one to feed on the perimeter right now (with no perimeter scorers around). Grabbing VC could make a lot of sense for them (if they get desperate) and Kerr would rather move Nash and do his own thing than go down with a sinking ship I would imagine.
As a Portland fan I love the thought of a couple year rental of Nash. He would fit well up here, have a lot of guys to feed on pick n rolls, hit open shots, not be relied upon to do everything (extending his career) and get to push the tempo for us selectively (similiar to his Dallas days with Finley and Dirk being Roy and Aldridge). I know he doesn't fit "long-term" but I think the playoff experience the guys get with him, the way he rewards them with easy buckets, and the pure consolidation would help our development even after he was gone.
What do you guys think of a deal like this:
NJ sends: VC
NJ receives: Bayless, Outlaw, Bell
PHX sends: Nash, Bell
PHX receives: VC, Blake
POR sends: Blake, Bayless, Outlaw
POR receives: Nash
It would save you a lot of money and net you two decent prospects. To save even more money (and get less in potential players) you could go with this:
NJ sends: VC, Simmons
NJ receives: Outlaw, Bell, Raef
PHX sends: Nash, Bell
PHX receives: VC, Blake, Bayless
POR sends: Blake, Bayless, Outlaw, Raef
POR receives: Nash, Simmons
What do you think of the concept in general (sending out VC for savings and prospects), do you think VC will be a Net by the end of the season, would he fit into a half-court Phoenix system, and does the offer seem realistic?
