I think it's a pretty safe bet that that is something you won't ever be.

Or should be.

So, you don't think the teacher could have called a parent/teacher conference as to discuss the situation?

If the teacher had been spotted with a male that was their spouse and the kid asked who was that man that was with her she could answer, but if the spouse is a woman she can't?!? And that makes sense to you? She's not "pushing" an agenda. She's answering a question about a relationship that I believe is still legal to be a part of in Florida.

Of course taxpayers pay for public schools. Some taxpayers oppose don't say gay. Some taxpayers are gay. But one bigot complains and teacher has committed a crime.

Every LGBTQ organization, even most pro corporate, vehemently opposes don't say gay bill. But I guess we are too stupid to know it's really a good thing. Just like women are too stupid to know what pregnancy is without a man explaining it. And Black people are too stupid to understand there is no such thing as systemic racism. Jews are too stupid to know we can discuss the Nazi Holocaust without it being unpleasant. Hell, we aren't even Christians.

Good thing we have straight white cisgender Christian men to set us all ... straight.

You missed my answer. She has every right to honestly answer the direct question without any exterior ramifications otherwise. That said, I'd also suggest she set up a parent/teacher conference to further discuss the matter. I believe these are topics that might necessitate that.

After targeting abortion, gays, and transgenders, red state legislatures have a new crusade on tap.

Under this proposed law sex in the "reverse cowgirl" position will be illegal. The sponsers defended this highly intrusive bill by arguing "you don't turn your back on family!"

What exactly would they be discussing in this parent/teacher conference?

Maybe we should leave parents out of some things.

Legislate abortion or instead offer birth control?

Why spend any money at all? I feel like all we need to do is start teaching kids about how fucking expensive it is to raise kids. Done and done.

"Listen here Johnny, it costs $1800 a month to send my kid to daycare. Do you happen to have an extra $1800 laying around? I didn't think so. Think of how many video games you could buy with $1800. Go buy some video games and keep it in your pants son!"

Kids aren't thinking of how expensive kids are when they're horny. That's trying to set up an argument for abstinence, and that's been shown not to work. Telling them no doesn't work. Keeping them safe and knowledgeable does.

I gotta say I feel pretty disappointed; it doesn't really matter how eloquent or thorough an explanation is, how vulnerable or personal a plea for change is, ultimately, the same people you were trying to convince just smile, shake their head, and go right back to what they were doing before. Only now they get to feel like they made a fun new friend in the process.

I don't know what I expected.

You have provided such an important and valuable perspective in the short time that you've been back. Please continue to speak your truth. It may not fall on all ears, it for sure falls on the ears that want to listen.

I can’t tell if I’m one of those people who disappoint you.

Not that I can remember. I guess it depends on what you plan to do with the power you wield. Only you know your heart.
I might be a sarcastic asshole son of a bitch, but I will always support the rights of others to be treated as equals…. I want everyone to be able to pursue happiness. I say pursue because I don’t think you can find happiness. It’s something you constantly have to search for. Maybe you can find it but the little bugger has to constantly be recaptured.

Young people want adults to answer the "so what". When we council our young people its important to share not only the good and bad results of a decision, but also exactly the cost (so what) , payback or safety of that decision. Example : don't just tell them what will happen because many will look at you with that "so what". Well, if you take moms car and w/o permission and you're buddies puke all over it, so no more bowering the car (penalty) and the $500 we were going to give you in a few months is zippo, thats the (so what). And thats the cost they will realize. Now I always gave my kids away to earn back a cost penalty and it worked a decent amount of the time.

While this is good advice, I don't think there is an answer that would be effective enough to convince horny teens not to have sex. At least, not at high enough rates to compete with universal access to education and healthcare (birth control).

Oh I agree that education and communication are important and yes the temptation factor to fight off. They just need to learn that their life could/will change in a way that might fuck up their other plans big time.

For certain, that should definitely part of the education equation.
