Re: Kingspeed is not happy with the team right now.

When you or I go to work, we think of the task at hand so we can keep our job and pay the bills. We use the blazers or other teams as a distraction but when I read posts like this, I can't help but believe that even posters such as you or I can put a team together better than Allen.

Paul Allen will never put together a franchise winning roster . . . never!

Just like he hasn't with the Seahawks.

I think it's going to be hard on the salvage crews dredging up all the bodies of fans jumping off the bridges in PDX.

Re: Fire Stotts

It was so fair enough.

I love KP. I don't think blazer management gets enough time to full implement their system before they are fired. I meet him in person and thought the world of him. He was articulatent, inspiring, and a guy you just wanted to get behind or take a bullet for. Thought PA and LM hung him out to dry on that press conference.
DAMN, I loves me some typos...

"Articulate": adj, having or showing the ability to speak fluently and coherently.
"Latent": adj, existing but not yet developed or manifest; hidden; concealed.
"Articulatent": adj, latently articulate, ie, having not yet developed the ability to speak fluently and coherently.

Sounds like a good word for the majority of this forum.

Well. played, Sir. Well played, indeed.

Re: Kingspeed is not happy with the team right now.

I don't quite know what you mean by this.

If you had seen this board in the early part of the year, my statement would make a lot more sense.

I didn't see the board earlier so my apologies. I guess in time it will make more sense.

I'm going to get off this topic because it's not very fun anymore and is turning quite negative in tones. I sense your sarcasm and that's fine. Just remember that Paul Allen has never assembled a team with all his own players that has reached the second round of the playoffs. That is not me being negative, it's just a stone-cold hard fact. I 100% root and support the players that get put out on the court each and every night and I will continue to support those players.

In fairness to Paul Allen, he assembled a potential contender with Aldridge, Batum, Mathews, Roy and Oden but unforseen injuries plagued the roster. It's not like he didn't try. That team would have been in the mix given a clean bill of health. Now he's assembled another team that's in the mix. He just won the Superbowl so he's a proven winner as a sports franchise owner.

Supposedly, they knew about Roy's knees.... and then there's Oden.

Every GM in the league would've drafted Oden and Roy was an allstar. I don't see this as a flaw in Paul Allen's ability as an owner. It was just really bad luck. Paul also hired Olshey and Stotts giving us a top team in the west this season. He deserves some credit here.

Seems to be the thinking around the time of Roy's contract extension was that there was a chance his contract would be dead money in the last year. There was never any real thought that he wouldn't even play 1 full season at an allstar level after signing his extension. As for Oden, come on thats been beaten to death and because of what happened with his career people forget that Oden was on par with LBJ on the amount of hype he was receiving coming out and with good reason, the guy was a monster. There is maybe 1 team in the league that would have taken Durant #1 and thats Orlando because they already had Dwight.

All I said is "then there's Oden." Take with it what you will. I know all about it.

Utah was the first game of the 20 game streak, get ready for smiles and sunshine clutchspeed!

Re: Kingspeed is not happy with the team right now.

I hope so Rasheed.

SlyPokerDog- could you please retitle this thread to "Fire Stotts?" That's what I titled it. I'm sick of seeing this thread with this title being attributed to my name. I would never talk in third person like that on this board.

The HCP would!

You don't actually want him gone do you?

Thought that was more out of frustration.

Re: Kingspeed is not happy with the team right now.

The difference between the 31-9 team at that point of the season and now, is that they cant finish games.

No. The difference is that they HAVEN'T finished their close games.

I know that, as sports fans, we love to ascribe deep and fundamental causes to changes in outcomes (i.e. losing close games rather than winning them), but in doing so it's easy to forget the significance of randomness in those same outcomes. If you take 30 coins and flip them 82 times, you will find that "streakiness" naturally occurs. After 40 flips, some coins would have landed on heads about 30 times, while others might have only 10. If we wanted to, we could make up stories based on these numbers, identifying the "contenders" and "pretenders" to the Great Coin Flipoff title at the end of the coin season. Some coins might demonstrate "mojo", landing heads on lucky bounces after initially landing on tails. Would any of this mojo, or streakiness, necessarily mean that the coins were weighted, or actually had any sort of significant differences between them at all? Of course not. Even though each coin, over thousands and thousands of flips, would end up with a ratio of around 50/50 heads vs. tails, in the short term it's a statistical certainty that there will be some ratios far removed from that.

Obviously, sports teams are not coins -- they don't have a perfect 50/50 chance of winning every night, and there ARE external influences. But it's naive to ignore the random elements of the game, or to believe that teams (even good teams) can consistently win super-close games without also losing some super-close games. At it's core, any individual basketball game is a random event, made up of many smaller random events. The better team doesn't always win. Streaks are virtually guaranteed, and don't always have a deep external cause. Mojo is mostly a myth.

I feel better now but I'd rather have the original title. No one talked about Stotts once the thread title was changed. The point was to talk about Stotts.

OK...Stotts, great coach IMO. Has developed a high character lockerroom full of unselfish players that get along and has brought a culture of support from the bottom of the bench to the top. He also gives bench players opportunities and won't hesitate to change the rotation if it's not working. I think he's intelligent in his approach to player development and he's done a decent job of it with the young, inexperienced roster he has to work with. He trusts his vets and they trust him. I love the guy as a Blazer head coach. My beef is with the assistant coaching staff and I think we need an elite defensive guy to compliment Stotts style of play. Not a guy who's buddy buddy with the bench but a guy who cracks the whip. Bill Laimbeer would be my choice and actually I though Nate would have been perfect on our bench with Stotts at the helm. I give Stotts two thumbs up. I might fire a couple of assistants though.

it does seem like every opponent we face has some genius assistant coach, but we have none; even Kim Hughes, who made Chris Kaveman worth starting, has been ineffectual against the challenge that is Leonard. Why can't we get ourselves a decent assistant coach?

I guess we do, but we keep making them our head coach.

I wonder what the other big men on our team have to say about Kim Hughes as an assistant coach. Perhaps the problem lies directly with Meyers Leonard.

They're all going to say they love him because they hang out off court, going to dinner, etc...Kaleb Canales was buddy buddy with Babbit and Nolan Smith. Hughes hangs out with Leonard. These are reasons I think a defensive coach that cracks a whip and doesn't become their best friend would toughen up their defense. I see it as the biggest weakness this season. Once they've been through a true defensive bootcamp, then they can buddy up all they want to.

That is the reason you're going with in order to justify the assistant coach change of guard? :dunno:

Hughes is the big man coach, not the defensive coach.

And looking at the career year Lopez is having I think he's doing some good.
