It could be looked at suspiciously. But then Greg should have talked to management about it.
Supposedly (and I don't know if this is true, but it's something I've just heard), Oden knew Portland was hiring Carr before Carr actually started his first day for the team.
Greg stopped meeting with Carr and his distrust of the Blazers deepened.
How do I hide behind a message board when I encourage you to post my name and have already posted pictures.
Are you trying to get ignored by PG? I mean, if you come at him with logic, he gets flustered and then puts you on ignore.
I don't think Greg had much trust in the organization at this point, considering this excerpt from the article:
It seems obvious to say there was something about the Blazers that Greg didn't trust. Sure he could have went and talked to management, but I don't think it accomplishes much, especially if he doesn't trust them in the first place.
lol, remember that time you told me to meet you at the RG during the tourney via PM? That was all kinds of hilarious.
That was in direct response to a westnob thread. He even laughed about it.
Context is key.
And the whole hated being in Portland but is also an extremely quiet/introverted guy still doesn't add up to me.
It's more like he wasn't living up to the hype and he went into a shell because he's extremely sensitive.
Yeah, I read all that. All of this has been re-hashed over and over. But I'll assume you got lost in the derailment.
The article talks about Greg's mistrust, but Greg was already insecure (and was when we drafted him), had a drinking problem, etc..... so there's just a lot of conjecture and unknown variables at this point. And the fact we've all wished him well and sent him on his way (even though he got more out of us than we got from him) and he's still badmouthing us? Tells me he's still insecure and paranoid.
He'd never put me on ignore. He has this strange, obnoxious complex towards me.

I'll cut this discussion short then since it's probably already been talked about, but who is more paranoid
Greg Oden
Paul Allen/Larry Miller/Kolde

Context is key. Thanks for sharing it, though. I'm sure you'll fit right in with the other superfriends at the Hall of Justice.

As a non-Portland fan I can see both sides of the argument. On the one hand Oden does seem to be making excuses, being classless in bashing the city even if he did have a shitty experience, and for all the crap the organization is getting you don't see similar issues in other players PDX has drafted and developed in Aldridge and Roy (who also dealt with awful injuries). I don't think management neglected him or his development in any way.
On the other hand he came into the league as an 18/19 year old and immediately stepped into a situation where fans and media were declaring championships for Portland from day one. That's a lot of pressure to deal with as such a young person. I tend to think there was nothing really wrong with him mentally when he was drafted but it festered over time as his body failed him and he had no control over fulfilling his own hopes and dreams and the championship dreams of the fans. I think a lot of the animosity toward him is partly jealousy because Oden was such a failure and Durant has gone on to be so good and OKC is the team that everyone expected Portland to be with Roy/LMA/Oden.
Hes being classless and looking like an excuse maker, but the guy seems like hes probably been struggling with clinical depression for most of his NBA career. Hes now admitting he is/was an alcoholic. Many of his problems are self induced but I still feel sympathy for him because so much pressure was placed on him at such a young age and he had no control over his body giving out. I'm 22 and I look back on myself at 18/19 and think about how incapable I would have been in coping with that kind of a situation. Its easy to call him mentally weak or a big baby or whatever some of you are saying, but he really was quite young when his career took a nosedive. We're not talking about Rudy Fernandez here either- a guy many of you pegged as a future top 5 SG. He was the #1 pick, he was the man who would get PDX multiple championships. That's a lot of failure to deal with.
In any event, he seems pretty fucked in the head now and his body is showing no signs of recovery. I don't doubt that he didn't help himself a lot of the time but its sad to see such a great talent and what seemed like a good kid get so many bad breaks. It eliminated his career and it may have screwed him up pretty bad mentally for life.
Making a Ben Davis reference isn't logic. It was unnecessary, and you did it because you were frustrated.
Hey, I've actually enjoyed debating you at times, but something's obvious bothering you the past week or two. Have fun flexing your quads with the rest of the funky bunch.
so fucking uptight about "shots at you". http://sportstwo.com/threads/212818-Whiny-Little-Babies-with-No-Sense-of-Humor-on-This-Board
I agree with a lot of this, and I'll add that alcohol isn't a good thing to add to an introvert who may be prone to depression.
Zags, what did you add to this thread other than a shot at me over a post that I had already repeatedly explained?
Are you going to discuss the topic of the thread, or is the 'third monkey on the pile' thing your goal?
Do you really need to be prone to depression to become depressed from a situation of that magnitude? He was a young kid and a lot of people around him are partying and drinking. Its pretty easy to understand how he could get caught up in it very quickly.
Chris Mullin's alcoholism almost cost him his career. He was able to overcome it and now hes a HOFer. I hope Oden can recover from his alcoholism and possible depression, doubt he can ever get his career back though.
An exposé on why your antics are inconsistent and abrasive. Hopefully leading to a self-character evaluation. In turn becoming a better man from it.
