If any of the statements in the post you were quoting were remotely serious, then perhaps I might have been saying that. But of course, they weren't, so no, I was not saying that.

Even if I had been serious, then my contention would not have been that the contracts had value because they were expiring, but simply that they would no longer have negative value if attached as salary ballast for a trade involving another player on the roster that was actually desirable (if, in fact, we have one that we would be willing to part with).

But thanks for the giant list of contracts. Super helpful.

I don't even think blame needs to be cast. Even if Olshey has tried his damnedest, it isn't/wasn't enough. We just need a new set of eyes on this roster and new approach.

There is no excuse for the way it's being run by Larry Scott but the rich presidents that make the decision whether to keep him around or not think he's doing a good job because they are making more money than they were before. While certainly possible that there is a drop at some point, it's just a guess at this point that fits certain narratives. Franchise values continue to climb at an investment rate that is very difficult to match with your money in other investments. When was the last time the value of the Blazers decreased from one year to the next? I'm not sure if it's happened before, at least not recently. With television and other revenue it's still likely that even a drop in attendance wouldn't result in the team losing money, especially after next season when some of the bad contracts start coming off the books.

I'm not saying this is the right approach. Heck, I much prefer an owner like the younger Paul Allen who tried to buy titles even though he sometimes lost money on it. I get what you are saying that they should be prepared for consequences of being happy with the status quo but this huge drop off you are referring to may never happen.

Every game I go to there are empty seats all over the place. It didn't used to be like that. Furthermore, the intensity in the crowd isn't there like it once was. Feels like 3/4s of the energy... It's noticeable.

Who knows if Simons or Trent have a future...we won't find out unless they bring in a coach who takes the time to find out. A major roster over-haul is the only sensible course of action.

Depending on how the season finishes out, they may very well be changed as those are both positions that are usually hired to eventually be fired. Firing them doesn't automatically improve the team either though as it can also result in a step back. Like I said in a previous post, I am enjoying watching this team.

I'm not a big 'fire Stotts' guy...but firing Stotts now, 2.5 years before Dame becomes a free agent...are you actually suggesting that if management decided they needed a new coach they should just wait till they have Dame re-signed in July 2021 until they fire the coach they wanted to fire 2.5 years before?

Dame is a great player but he's not the GM, nor should he have the power of those kind of decisions. He's earned the right to have input but he hasn't earned the right to have the veto

Dame was good friends with Robin Lopez but he got over Lopez walking. He was really good friends with Will Barton but he got over Barton being traded. he was good friends with Tim Frazier but he got over Frazier being released. He was good friends with Mason Plumlee and hated to see Plumlee traded, but he turned right around and established a good friendship with Nurkic

I've seen this same argument before. People don't like the opinions of other posters about such and such, and they try to use the "Dame won't like it" argument. In the last 2-3 years, that silly argument has been used over and over to defend the status quo and the status quo is basically trudging along on a treadmill

on the other hand, this is the 7th season of both Stotts and Olshey. You're talking about needing 4 more months of evaluation. Others here are saying that 78 months of evaluation are enough. There isn't anything new that will be evident after 82 months that wasn't evident at 78 months

Im not sure he should. Steph, Klay and co were all upset that Jackson got fired and that turned out fine. I know thats an extremely example and bringing in a new coach could have many outcomes and the GS one is probably not likely. However I think part of what I dont like about Stotts is there is a perceived lack of accountability with some players. The best coaches hold everyone to the same standard. You ever once hear Stotts upset with Dame, CJ, Nurk, Aminu?
Do I enjoy watching this team? Kind of. I enjoy watching how good Dame is. Id say there brand of basketball in terms of enjoyment is pretty middle of the road though, at least most nights.

Yes the Blazers could get a worse head coach, but they could get better and short term even if they moved horizontally they may be better just because it would be a new system that the rest of the league hadnt memorized.

I feel like the right time was after the Pelican series. Maybe you dont do it now and wait til the end of the season.
