In the 3rd grade I sat next to the daughter of the first female black cop in Portland.

None of which answers the thresh-hold question: why did Zimmerman even initiate this whole mess? Why did he follow some random kid who was just walking on a public sidewalk? Would he have done the same to a white kid?

So anyway, the media describes Zimmerman as a white hispanic. Is Obama a white black president?

The Florida "stand your ground" law isn't a bad one. The courts still should sort out a case like this. It's painfully obvious that there's little an unarmed 17 year old could do that was threatening enough (i.e. life threatening) to warrant shooting him. Zimmerman certainly took the law into his own hands and the whole thing turned out far worse than it should have.

The police are a disgrace. They should have arrested the guy and charged him with manslaughter at the very least. It's not their place to decide what a judge might rule based upon the law. The courts should sort these things out, and that includes the 911 tapes, the eyewitness testimony, and any other evidence both sides can bring forward.

Zimmerman's side of the story:

http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2012-03....eenager

With a single punch, Trayvon Martin decked the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who eventually shot and killed the unarmed 17-year-old, then Trayvon climbed on top of George Zimmerman and slammed his head into the sidewalk several times, leaving him bloody and battered, authorities have revealed to the Orlando Sentinel.

That is the account Zimmerman gave police, and much of it has been corroborated by witnesses, authorities say.

Zimmerman has not spoken publicly about what happened, but that night, Feb. 26, and in later meetings he described and re-enacted for police what he says happened.

In his version of events, he had turned around and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from behind, the two exchanged words then Trayvon punched him in the nose, sending him to the ground, and began beating him.

Police have been reluctant to provided details about all their evidence, but this is what they've disclosed to the Sentinel:

Zimmerman was on his way to the grocery store when he spotted Trayvon walking through his gated community.

Trayvon was visiting his father's fiancée, who lived there. He had been suspended from school in Miami after being found with an empty marijuana baggie. Miami schools have a zero-tolerance policy for drug possession.

Zimmerman called police and reported a suspicious person, describing Trayvon as black, acting strangely and perhaps on drugs.

Zimmerman got out of his SUV to follow Trayvon on foot. When a dispatch employee asked Zimmerman if he was following the 17-year-old, Zimmerman said yes. The dispatcher told Zimmerman he did not need to do that.

There is about a one-minute gap during which police say they're not sure what happened.

Zimmerman told them he lost sight of Trayvon and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from the left rear, and they exchanged words.

Trayvon asked Zimmerman if he had a problem. Zimmerman said no and reached for his cell phone, he told police.

Trayvon then said, "Well, you do now" or something similar and punched Zimmerman in the nose.

Zimmerman fell to the ground and Trayvon got on top of him and began slamming his head into the sidewalk, he told police.

Zimmerman began yelling for help.

Several witnesses heard those cries, and there's been a dispute about from whom they came: Zimmerman or Trayvon.

Lawyers for Trayvon's family say it was Trayvon, but police say their evidence indicates it was Zimmerman.

One witnesses, who has since talked to local television news reporters, told police he saw Zimmerman on the ground with Trayvon on top, pounding him and was unequivocal that it was Zimmerman who was crying for help.

Zimmerman then shot Trayvon once in the chest from very close range, according to authorities.

When police arrived less than two minutes later, Zimmerman was bleeding from the nose, had a swollen lip and had bloody lacerations to the back of his head.

Paramedics gave him first aid, but he said no to going to the hospital. He got medical care the next day.

From what I understand, this is a very high crime area. The demographic is pretty even mix. There had been a rash of robberies as of late and the Hispanic nieghborhood watch would have checked out anyone that was not from the area. This is a gated community where most residence are known to one anouther.

Apparently, cracka azz cracka is trademarked by yours truly.

Man, I am sorry, but that pic is funny on sooo many levels. Someone needs to clue that clown in..

A few points on that article:

Did the police take photographic evidence of this beating?

Zimmerman said he was reaching for his cell phone. If this is a high crime area at night and Martin was approached by a stranger who had been following him, how does Martin know what Zimmerman was reaching for?

Only Zimmerman and Martin know what happened in that 1 minute when the two met. We basically have one man's word against a dead boy. All the more reason for this to be properly investigated and be sent to the justice system to sort out

well, its outside the justice system and into the court of public opinion now.

Seems like someone was a little trigger happy. A grown, overweight man jumps a 140lbs high school kid and then decides something warrants shooting him?

I'm not saying Zimmerman was an evil person. But, it seems like he had a little misguided understanding of his job and was drunk with power.

I worked years in the security business. Too many rent-a-cops out there looking for trouble rather than letting it show up to them. Someone's always trying to be the next hero.

I think he should do time, atleast some time for being such a fool.

Did you read his account of the events that transpired?

Some more on Treyvon's suspension(s). Implications of burglary, which would probably provide some credence to Zimmerman's claim that he appeared suspicious.

http://www.miamiherald.com/2012....on.html

Miami Gardens teenager Trayvon Martin was suspended from school in October in an incident in which he was found in possession of women’s jewelry and a screwdriver that a schools security staffer described as a “burglary tool,” The Miami Herald has learned.

Trayvon, who claimed that an unnamed friend had given him the jewelry, was not disciplined because of the discovery, but was instead suspended for graffiti, according to a Miami-Dade Schools Police report obtained by The Miami Herald.

According to the report, on Oct. 21 staffers monitoring a security camera at Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School spotted Trayvon and two other students writing “W.T.F.,” an acronym for “What the f---,” on a hallway locker, according to schools police. The security employee, who knew Trayvon, confronted the teen and looked through his bag for the graffiti marker.

Trayvon’s backpack contained 12 pieces of jewelry, in addition to a watch and a large flathead screwdriver, according to the report, which described the screwdriver as a burglary tool.

Trayvon was asked if the jewelry, which was mostly women’s rings and earrings, belonged to his family or a girlfriend.

“Martin replied it’s not mine. A friend gave it to me,” according to the report. Trayvon declined to name the friend.

School police impounded the jewelry and sent photos of the items to detectives at Miami-Dade police for further investigation.

“Martin was suspended, warned and dismissed for the graffiti,” according to the report prepared by Miami-Dade Schools Police.
