Politics Impeachment pt. II - America Loses!

See how the system works! Deals behind doors and worms in everything we know is true but the truth is held in their power. It's a Catch 22 caught in a conundrum.
I really think a lot of it is show and an opportunity to give eloquent speeches.

When I saw those videos, I thought the entire procedure was reality but without ratings and a show to match. Personally, I saw emotion and dismay from the impeachment managers that presented the case. Congressman Raskin from MD. wore his heart on his sleeve. I think their emotions and case were real. I am just so disappointed the Dems want to eliminate the witness element. Maybe, their theory to skip this section of the trial was set upon the "political theater" argument Trumps' asinine defense team dreamed up. I think the American people should see and hear all the corrupted politicians and Trump family in clear sight.

To me the dems have the control but don't want to use? If they dont demand witness's its their own fault if he's acquitted. Nobody else's, as the wayI see it with witness's it would turn republicans and they would vote to convict.
I have to disagree. The large majority of Republicans would not convict under ANY circumstances. Period.

The answer to all of this is never, never vote for a GOP candidate again...write in Mickey Mouse before you let these folks make important decisions that affect our lives. If they won't impeach Trump, the voters can respond by voting them out of DC. The GOP has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that they cannot be trusted to protect the republic.

Sadly, you may be right and sane people that were Republican voters would finally see them for the despicable Motley Crew they are.

Not a surprise. It was already known a majority of the Republican senators were spineless, soul selling vermin.

They can't help Trump in NY though. They can stop stop Deutch bank from taking everything Trump owns either.

But how do you know they wouldnt have enough compelling evidence. They wouldn't have nothing to lose especially after voting to call witness's. Whats was that?

It sure isn't a deal where if it doesn't fit they must acquit! Why the hell would they vote to call witness's then change their minds? Doesn't make since unless they come out and say because of recess and covid and we would win anyway.

And so was OJ...but at least they called witness's.
Pisses me off they go through this only to have it end like it did. They would have been better of not voting for witness's and saying it would be a waist of time.

I read on CNN they changed their mind because Joe requested it?

But how do you know they wouldnt have enough compelling evidence.

Republicans were always going to be voting based on political practicalities, not their belief in guilt or innocence. The vast majority of them don't want to lose the Trump loyalists from their voting base the next time they're up for election. The few that voted for conviction believe that such a vote will help them in the general election and they don't have much to fear in terms of being primaried.

They wouldn't have nothing to lose especially after voting to call witness's. Whats was that?

They have time to lose. If they've (correctly) determined that witnesses won't change anything in terms of the result, their best play is to wrap up the trial now that they've put all the evidence before the American people (the statement from the congresswoman who would have been a witness to Trump turning down McCarthy's request for help was read out loud) and get on with passing the huge Covid relief stimulus bill.

I know, just seems that they had compelling evidence especially after voting for witness's it would have been at least a chance. They knew going into this whole ordeal they would get those votes, so was this really just a message to the pubic rather that a real trail?
Yeah, lets move on. Ive surprised myself I usually don't get so pissed off with politics, not worth it I guess.

The Dems knew what the outcome would be. This was for the American people to see the truth. Most of the Republican senators, many who were complicit with Trump's incitement, were never going to vote against him, even though they know he is guilty.

The majority of Americans believe Trump is guilty and now see how corrupt the republican senators who voted to acquit are. Hundreds of Thousands of republicans have left the party, and many more will.

This is the death knell of the Republican party. They could have voted to save their party, but they voted instead to damn it.

Senate acquits Trump for 2nd time, as 7 Republicans join Democrats in guilty vote (yahoo.com) The Republicans that stood for acquittal are "the most corrupted individuals" ever. Now that title fits these scabs.
Except these people with conscious.

Republican Sens. Richard Burr of North Carolina, Susan Collins of Maine, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Mitt Romney of Utah, Ben Sasse of Nebraska and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania all voted guilty.

The vote means the Senate cannot bar Trump from holding future federal offices.

With control of the Senate split 50-50, the House managers always had an uphill battle when it came to convincing enough Republicans to cross party lines and convict a former president who is still very popular with a large part of the GOP base.

In his closing argument, House manager Joe Neguse, D-Colo., argued, "The stakes could not be higher. Because the cold, hard truth is that what happened on January 6 can happen again. I fear, like many of you do, that the violence we saw on that terrible day may be just the beginning."

Lead impeachment manager Jamie Raskin, D-Md., urged the senators to think of the future.

"Senators, this trial, in the final analysis, is not about Donald Trump. The country and the world know who Donald Trump is. This trial is about who we are, who we are," Raskin said.

Trump lawyer Michael van der Veen, meanwhile, insisted his client did nothing wrong and maintained he was the victim of vengeful Democrats and a biased news media. He called the impeachment proceedings a "charade from beginning to end."

The managers' task became more difficult Saturday when Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell announced in an email to his colleagues that he would vote to acquit since Trump was already out of office.

"While a close call, I am persuaded that impeachments are a tool primarily of removal and we therefore lack jurisdiction," the influential Kentucky Republican wrote in the email, which was obtained by NBC News.

McConnell, who'd rebuffed Democratic efforts to start the trial while Trump was still in office, had condemned Trump's conduct after the riot and said he'd keep an open mind about voting to convict — something he'd ruled out entirely during Trump's first impeachment trial last year.

McConnell suggested in the email that Trump could still face other penalties.

"The Constitution makes perfectly clear that Presidential criminal misconduct while in office can be prosecuted after the President has left office, which in my view alleviates the otherwise troubling 'January exception' argument raised by the House," he wrote.

Opening arguments began on Wednesday, with House managers blaming the riot on Trump's months-long campaign to cast doubt on the 2020 election, and his repeated assertions that the only way he would lose was if the election was "stolen." They focused on his fiery speech on the morning of the Jan. 6 riot, where he urged his supporters to "fight like hell" — and his refusal to take action after they did.

Trump declined a request from managers to testify at the trial, and refused to even submit a statement for it, facts Raskin urged senators to keep in mind on Saturday.

"I ask any of you, if you were charged with inciting violent insurrection against our country, and you're falsely accused, would you come and testify? I know I would," Raskin said.

The trial was the fourth of an impeached president. No president has ever been convicted.

It didn't matter how compelling evidence was. Compare to attempts to prosecute Klan in the 60s, always got off, or conversely Scott's pro defendants, so obviously not guilty, but evidence didn't matter.

Trump is a failure as a politician just like a failure in business. On his watch Republicans lost House, Senate and presidency. Looked like McConnell had enough, he got his tax cuts for the rich and right wing judges, but Trump still has a solid base of racists and white evangelicals who consider him their Christ. The only way Republicans can get elected is voter suppression and a fired up base. It wasn't evidence, it was lust for power.

Yes. They knew from the start that Republicans would vote to acquit. This was to put all the evidence before the American people in a very public way and tie Republicans to their votes to acquit.

Need a title change to reflect that he was acquitted

Thx
