I guess that's one way to "get new signups". :MARIS61:

The Affordable Care Act was signed by President Obama in 2010 and since then he has repeated one reassuring phrase: "If you like your insurance plan you will keep it. No one will be able to take that away from you. It hasn't happened yet. It won't happen in the future."

But it is happening. The president's health care law raises the standards for insurance policies, which many consider to be a good thing. But hundreds of thousands of Americans whose policies don't meet the new standards are being told that their health plans are being cancelled.

Hundreds of thousands of Americans who purchase their own health insurance have received cancellation notices since August because the plans do not meet Obamacare’s requirements.

The number of cancellation notices greatly exceed the number of Obamacare enrollees.

Insurance carrier Florida Blue sent out 300,000 cancellation notices, or 80 percent of the entire state’s individual coverage policies, Kaiser Health News reports. California’s Kaiser Permanente canceled 160,000 plans — half of its insurance plans in the state — while Blue Shield of California sent 119,000 notices in mid-September alone.

Two major insurance carriers in Pennsylvania, Insurance Highmark in Pittsburgh and Independence Blue Cross in Philadelphia plan to cancel 20 percent and 45 percent of their total plans, respectively.

Nearly 800,000 New Jersey residents’ health-care plans will not longer exist in 2014, forcing insurers to create new ones for individuals and small business owners that hew to the Obamacare’s new regulations, The New Jersey Star Ledger found in early October.

“I don’t feel like I need to change, but I have to,” Jeff Learned, a television editor in Los Angeles, told Kaiser Health News. Learned now needs to scramble to find a plan to coverage his teenage daughter, whose health problems have required several surgeries.

Yep, If the plan was to totally screw up the healthcare coverage system, the Obama team has been wildly successful

When you tax employers for providing health care for employees, spouses and retirees, you are not likely to produce revenue, you are more likely to produce less of what you tax.
When you dictate what alll compliant plans must contain then you more than likely will see insurance companies stop offering non compliant plans and not renew them with existing customers. When the requirements of compliant plans include line items that boost costs, the plans will cost more and therefore less people will buy them. Only people shielded from these costs, like people with government subsides will be oblivious to the increased costs.

It seems to me, Obama and crew are getting behavior exactly what their law was intended to achieve, which is exactly what the text of the law was designed to produce.

In many cases the damage to the previous system is now unrecoverable.

The only question left to be answered is why? Why is this dismantling of the previously existing system the goal of Obama and crew?

Act II to follow.

Wonder what the reward will be?

Repeal of the 22nd amendment and a 3rd and 4th term.

Obama has not shied away from stating he wanted eventually a single payer national health care system. This is it. It was planned.

Eventually it will probably become that. And once the ACA gets into motion (and actually gets into motion, not "hey, october 1st? you can sign up...wait..just playin'!), people will refuse to let it go. And I bet within 5-10 years, it'll be cookin' along and all of the "sky is falling" talk will be looked back at and people will chuckle.

And once it is finally a single player (or at least, a public option) it'll probably be done by a Republican President (and they'll take credit for it, as that's what the parties do).

well, look at the bright side. I may never cover Americans as intended, but according to NPR there is a big push to cover all of the illegal immigrants and better yet, it is subsidized by the US government.
