If you're Trump, do you retaliate or let it go?

Hopefully the USA doesn't try to wave their dick around and prove they have a bigger military force than the country of Iran.
Don't have to shoot a missile to prove that.

No war.

Starting a war is the whole point. It’s been the objective for years. Whatever can be done to escalate the situation, will be done by the United States.

I’d love to be wrong, though.

Of course USA will. Trump is in the oval office. He needs terribly to over compensate.

I've been out of the news cycle today, did Iran retaliate, and they're saying (now), don't retaliate and we'll let this go?

OR are they basically saying don't retaliate to our saber rattling, and we'll call it good?

If it's the second, it kind of means that the Orange McGuffin got it right.

Iran launched missiles at two of our bases in Iraq.

Nah I dont agree there if starting a war was always the entire point, its not that hard... They could have full blown world war in a half hour if they wanted too.

What they want is prolonged military action that results in the need for high military spending and political gain.

What do we do?

Crush them completely. They've left us no choice.

Hit and run and hide and promise to change is what cowards do.

It's what they've done for 40 years.

They'll have a nuke in 3 months thanks to Obama/Kerry.

The missiles didn’t do anything really. Let it go. Or not, get involved, spend tons of money and maybe kill a few soldiers, whatever works for you

Sounds like it was a measured face saving response by Iran. So obviously Trump will have to go full idiot and screw this up.

They squandered their face-saving opportunity by launching missiles at our allies and our soldiers, after being promised they could simply stop killing Americans and walk away. They insisted on being themselves, cowardly heinous thugs. No mercy.

It's kind of both, because they don't behave like most human beings we've known.

My personal preference is America kills every leader of any country that openly threatens physical harm to Americans anywhere.

If we can do it without harming the populace, as Trump just did, that's absolutely wonderful. Hopefully our next strike moves further up the food chain. If they hide behind their soldiers and citizens then those people have a choice to make.

I don't give a shit about the welfare of anyone who vows to kill me, my family, my countrymen.

I don't really care about any country other than America. They can bow to dictators or they can rise up and demand their freedom. It's a choice that everyone has to face in their lives, and some cultures prefer to be told what to do by "special people". They can fight their neighbors for eternity over irrational myths and thousand year-old property-line disputes. I don't care. Just don't threaten me and you can kill each other all you want. Rape your women and slaughter your gays all you want. Since crandc supports you who am I to object?

I'm all for getting out of the area, once all threats to Americans are truly dealt with in a permanent manner.

America was built by people who don't like to be threatened, pushed around, controlled, restricted, tethered, tracked, spied upon...

Real Americans still feel that way. I sympathize with Iranians wishing to be free, but for it to be a lasting freedom they will have to demand it mostly on their own.

I kind of think their reaction was best case scenario. They couldn't just walk away and face their people after we off'ed one of their main guys. They had to do something and what they did was effectively lob a few missiles into the dirt and call us names. That is as close to nothing as we can realistically expect. No need to keep escalating.

Since Maris is jumping up and down screaming "Kill, KILL!" the right answer is obviously for the US to calmly walk away.

Who knows which two Trump neurons will be firing tomorrow morning at toilet tweet-time, though.

It’s a kind of damned if you do, damned if you don’t thing for the president.

If he does strike back, it will be seen as him being some new warmonger (crazy because his body count is minuscule compared to many presidents) getting us into WW3.

If he doesn’t strike back, the media/politicians will basically call him him a pussy lol

Ayatollah is claiming that they killed 80 Americans. Telling Iranians he slapped America's face. He sounded like the Iranian Joe Biden. Senile, the crowd laughing at him behind his back International humiliation for the Mullahs as the sad video makes the rounds. POTUS TRUMP SPEAKS TO AMERICANS TOMORROW MORNING.

If they have a nuke soon, and I believe they will, it will be thanks to Trump who killed the deal on Iran's nukes.

What do we do?
Iran is boasting that they killed 80 Americans but there are no reports of casualties from the Americans.
I say, let it go. They can boast all they want but if reality says they didn't kill anyone, let's end it right there and let them have their bravado.

I still think the best thing would just be to completely isolate the Middle East. No travel in or out. No commerce. Let them figure out their own shit. Tired of dealing with their extreme religious beliefs and their politics.

I'll preface this by saying I hate both sides of politics (Republicans and Democrats), ha ha, because I feel like both sides have gone too extreme.

I completely understand that Trump started this by signing off on the assassination of the Iranian general but we're acting like no other president has done anything like that. I'm also not advocating war but what other president would get this much heat for responding to an actual attack on the U.S.?

We're actually going to let them get away with shooting missles at our bases because "fuck Trump"? If we do nothing and they develop nukes or prepare for more attacks while we take them at their word wouldn't that open up the possibility of them starting the war on their terms?

I don't really know what the right answer is here and am in no way supporting Trump (fuck that guy) but reading through comments on here it seems like people can't separate their hatred for him from what to actually do.

We should walk away, but Trump needs this war to try to gain some traction for the upcoming election. He falsely accused President Obama of trying to start a war with Iran so he could be reelected, instead he was just showing his plan. Trump saw how it worked for Bush and hopes it will work for him too.

Just like Afghanistan and Iraq are glowing, eh?

Fortunately Iran's threat of "Hard revenge" amounted to minimal damage to the base and no loss of life. I guess their bark-to-bite ratio rivals even that of Trumps.

That was by design. By no loss of life (I would even think they warned the US to clear people ahead of the strike), they are less likely to have this escalate into war.

Of course. My point is that they talked a lot and used a lot of threatening rhetoric but ultimately didn't do anything.

All of this started because Trump is all talk? What are you saying?
