Is B Lopez "overrated"?

I want to post this after B. Lopez just had the best game of his career. so this won't be one of those over reaction after a bad game.

I don't really want to say Lopez is overrated, after all, he's just a rookie. but do people use a different standard for centers nowadays? The competition at C in the League almost none-existent. Besides Yao and Dwight Howard, most of the Centers are really offensively challenged, they are more there to defend the paint. Andrew Bynum, some experts considered him to be the 3rd best center in the league, is only averaging 12.3/8.6. I think Lopez averages about that when he starts. If that's the stats for a PF, he probably won't even be mentioned in the top 15. He is playing against 6'10" guys who has no offense on a nightly bases. besides the lack of competitions, Lopez is only shooting .485, thats after his 11-16 great shooting performance, that's hardly good for a center.

A lot of fans are ready to make him a franchise player and are no doubt that he will be averaging 20/10 for many years to come. And some compare his game to Tim Duncan. While I can see some similarities, but Duncan was a dominant force when he first came to the league. This is not a thread to bash Lopez, I think he will be a great player for the Nets for a long time. But do people have too much expectation for him?
 
Lopez overrated? You're just jealous that you're not as good as Brook. He's clearly going to be Tim Duncan, if not better.

I'd appreciate it if you stopped trolling by posting these topics.

On a serious note, I agree. There has been a dearth in quality NBA centers for several years. Hence why players like Ilgauskas and Jamaal Magloire can become all-stars. Contrarily, the NBA has a surplus of guards. This is why the market isn't as favorable to players like Ben Gordon; there are several guards who can duplicate his 20/3/3 averages. Yet, quality big men are so valuable these days that you can almost justify overpaying them.

Lopez has a solid future, though I vehemently refute this "next Tim Duncan" notion. I see him with an Ilgauskas like future.
 
i tend to think that when most people call him the next duncan, its a joke, and they don't really believe it
 
Duncan is so boring to watch. When he has a bad game, no one notices. Recently, he put up some stinkers and their record is not that great this year.
 
Lopez overrated??? LMAO! When he was drafted 10th more than half of the Nets fans on these boards and on Netsdaily were crying that we passed up on future star Bayless to pick up a bust like Lopez. Now, when Brook is among Top-5 in his rookie class he's suddenly overrated. LMAO again.
 
True, but Lopez will be hard pressed to emulate Duncan's worst year.

It sounds cliche, but it depends on how you rate him. If you rate his potential anywhere near a Tim Duncan level, he vastly is overrated.

I hate (and I know you hate it too Mr. J) this Tim Duncan comparison. Let Lopez be Lopez for God's sake! Personally, I enjoy his progress so far and that's it.

He's the best PF to ever play. Maybe not anymore, but a decline is permissable.
 
Lopez looks like he's going to be a borderline All-Star some day, which, considering my original expectation, is absolutely amazing. But that ain't Tim Duncan.

I guess the whole question of "Is X overrated" is just a stupid question, because you need to ask "Who's rating?" With that said, I haven't seen anyone compare him to Tim Duncan. I have seen comparisons to Greg Oden though, and I think there's a decent chance right now that Lopez will go on to have the better career.
 
Lopez has a lot of potential...he's averaging over 12.5 pts, 8.5 rebounds and 2 blocks per game as a starter and 10.3 and 7.6 overall in just over 27 mins a game in his rookie season...that's absolutely phenomenal. Not numbers comparable to Tim Duncan in his rookie season...which were nuts but comparable to say YAO who averaged 13.5 pts and 8.5 rebounds in a tad under 30 mins a game in his rookie season.

Also remember this offense isn't built around Brook Lopez...he's actually putting up better numbers then one would expect in the dribble drive offense. I'm not saying Brook will be Yao. I will say I think Brook Lopez can turn into a consistent 18 and 8 guy in the future...which is a steal considering where we selected him.

Brook Lopez is still underrated if anything. overrated? Hell no!

he is averaging 12.5 and 8.5 and 2.3 blocks per games as a starter, shooting with 50.8 percent, which you say he is a joke at the shooting percentage.

Don't make this thread for an asshole to make his own things.

he's a borderline all star already. Dwight, Z, and Bogut are the only centers I'd put over him in the east this year.
 
Who the hell compares Brook Lopez to Tim Duncan literally? In terms of playing style yes. But in terms of actual impact, noone in their right mind can believe that nonsense.

Don't believe a kook who likes to make his own things.

No body say Lopez is as good as Duncan in his prime, and we say Lopez is Duncan-Like, that doesn't mean he is putting number like Duncan, but means his playing style like Duncan, and also his stature.

A certain kook is changing the topic to Lopez is as good as Duncan, but don't be trolled by that great fisher.

Perkins is better.

Besides, making it in the East is kind of fake. I'm talking top 6-7 center in the league, potentially.

What skills does Lopez have that are similar to Duncan's?
 
Lopez will never be anything close to Duncan, but that comparison was always silly. Even if Lopez never become more than a Big Z caliber player; that's a tremendously valuable piece for any team. There aren't many quality centers in this league and most teams would kill to have a center who gives 17 pts and 9 rebounds a game; which I think Lopez will probably end up producing.
 
I compare Lopez to Lopez. He ain't Z although his outside shot is similar, but Z doesn't have Lopez's inside moves or can finish like lopez. Lopez has the mix of a tough inside game both offensively and defensively. In his second month in the nba most of which he's been a starter he will develop into his own style of play. Down the road people will be comparing other seven footers to Brook.

Is he going to be the next Duncan? Who knows but i feel just a little over a month into the season he could even end up better than Duncan. How is that you say? Well, after a year or two he will have all of Tim Duncan's offensive skills, but something Tim Duncan lacks. And, that is a real toughness inside. Everybody knows that is Tim's only flaw, but are willing to overlook it because of his great offensive game.

Brook is going to be special, and isn't the real purpose of this thread to deflect attention from another poor performance of Yi? Nice try.
 
Speaking in contrast, let's talk about underrated rookies like that Gallinari fella. He's filling up the stat sheet day in and day out
 
wait just a damn min. people are actually putting brook lopez in the same sentence as Tim Duncan. he doesn't even belong in the same paragraph as Duncan.

Remember when Wright was compared to Wade.

Remember people compared Marcus Williams to Deron.

Remember peeople compared Sean Williams to Amare.


I'll make my opinion at the end of the year. he is a suprise so far but he still has some improvements to make. Also Kendrick Perkins is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better
 
Perkins was crap 2 seasons ago. He's a good role player now though, after you put him in a team of all stars.
