Is Chris Paul the trade KP is working on?

I would take Okafor any time to seal the deal. Having a line up of Roy , Paul, LMA, Oden, and Okafor would be expensive, but it would look good on TV when they go to sell the Seattle/Vancouver markets. I say steal Boise from the Jazz as well. I would hate to lose Batum, but he replaceable along with everyone else. (IMHO)

I would do this; Oden, Martell, Rudy, Bayless and Miller to the Hornets
Paul and Okafor to Portland

I'd be more inclined to include Joel's expiring contract versus Miller, but I think that deal has some fair value. You'd have to hope to god you pick up some shooters in free agency or the draft and you'd probably be looking long and hard at getting a young center sooner rather than later, but that's probably worth it.

Jason Quick said it's a 3-for-1 deal.

Various articles state that New Orleans wants to send Emeka or Peja's contracts along with Chris Paul

Doesn't this kinda rule out CP3?

:sigh:

Well I don't think he really laid out the nuts and bolts of the supposed trade, he more or less alluded that it would probably be multiple Portland players for a singular impact player. Even in this scenario Paul would be the primary target and a guy like Okafor would be seen as the ballast that the Hornets were hoping to get rid of -- albeit a fairly decent piece of ballast.

There's no way on earth I give up Oden if we're bringing in CP3. Oden's the one guy on the team who needs the infusion of a legit, distributing PG to open up his game. CP3 made Tyson Freaking Chandler look like an All-Star...what could he do with Greg on the Pick and ROLL or cutting through the lane? And if we had Paul, I'd be hesitant to trade LMA, b/c we'd see more fastbreak opportunities. Oden with the rebound, outlet to Paul, pass to a streaking LMA for the dunk!
RIP CITY!

At this point i agree with BrianWA....I dont trade oden at this time...

It would be UBER STUPID to trade Oden or LMA at this point in their careers. We have the potential for 10 years of twin towers and great defense.

So you would want to include Roy in a CP3 deal?

If we are going to get a top5 NBA player I think we have to give up more than our 4th or 5th best talent. Yeah it's great to say you don't want to give up Oden or LA, but at the end of the day would that trade make us a better team? I believe it would, so I'd ship out Oden to close the deal.

If it came down to NOH saying "we'll take the deal with Roy, or we'll take the deal with Oden" then bye-bye Brandon.
If it came down to NOH saying "we'll take the deal with Roy or LMA", bye-bye LMA.
If it's "Oden or no deal", then I personally don't pull the trigger.

If you can get Paul without trading him, then I fully agree, but that's not what we're talking about here. WOULD you trade him if that was New Orleans' bottom line for giving up Paul and Okafor? I sure as hell would (as much I would "itch" about Oden potentially staying healthy and blowing up for Naw'lins).

If you could combine Roy with CP3 we would have the best backcourt in the history of the NBA! Having Camby/Okafor/Batum/LaMarcus in the front court would still be a very good defensive unit.

Damn straight. I guess there would even be the outside chance that Pryz comes back from his devestating injury and provides you some good backup minutes at the five spot too.

I still don't, and fully understand how homerish that sounds. And I'd love to see Roy playing with CP3 in the backcourt. But if it comes down to it, there's this little hiccup...

Brandon hates PGs. :)
Ok, slightly joking. Greg loves dunking, and being involved in the offense.

Production trumps potential.

Roy may not be at the Kobe/LeBron level, but his value exceeds Oden's by a country mile. It shocks me that anybody would disagree.:crazy::tsktsk:

You all done being high yet? You know this isn't happening. :)

So you'd trade Oden for Darko? Since Darko's production was higher than Greg's, and therefore his value is higher? Or that you have a premonition that he'll be injured the rest of his NBA days.

Because if we're talking about production, here's a list of people all-time who've done around what Greg did last year in PER, Drtg, and Rebounding (20 games) (I subjectively used these b/c I'd like a center who rebounds, plays D and puts the ball in the basket when it's given to him): KG, Moses, Kemp, Walton, Howard, Barkley. Decent production there.

If you want to see the only people who've done BETTER than Greg in those 3 categories, there's one. All-time. Dwight Howard. http://www.basketball-reference.com...=21.8&c4stat=g&c4comp=gt&c4val=20&order_by=ws

Roy may not be at K*be level, but Greg's on an all-time level with his production. 82 games into his career. With little offense looking for him.

Thank jeebus this guy isn't the GM of the Blazers. :)

What good is production when a guy misses 67% of the games so far in his career and 75% of the games last season?

True, but I'd be a bit concerned that Paul and Roy in a backcourt would mean not fully leveraging the talents of one or both, because both are at their best when they control the ball. Could they co-exist? Sure...I think Roy can still be a valuable player even if he ceded the running of the offense to CP3. But not as valuable as he has been so far.

Whereas, I definitely think that Aldridge and Oden can fully leverage their abilities together...in fact, Aldridge could very well get more out of his abilities if he was a high post player full-time, while Oden occupied the low post full-time. And Paul being the lone star/superstar in the backcourt would allow him to get every ounce out of his talent.

So, ultimately, while I've no doubt that Paul/Roy would be an amazing pairing, I think Portland would probably more efficiently use their talent with Oden and Aldridge playing with Paul, rather than Roy and Aldridge.

Of course, if Portland could keep Roy and Oden, I say to hell with optimal fit because Roy is just a much better talent than Aldridge. Make it work. But I don't think Aldridge could reasonably be the main piece in a Paul trade.

Not that good. So it depends on whether your prediction is that he'll continue to miss the same amount of time going forward. If so, none of these speculations matter much, because Portland doesn't have the talent to be a true championship contender without a healthy Oden. IMO, of course.

Plus, with Oden, we have a center who is hindered by foul trouble the rare times he's healthy. He isn't going to have the Hall of Fame career we expected of him. The quicker people can accept this, the more realistic we can be in these dicussions. Can he be an All-Star? Sure, but it's time to get past the once-in-a-generation pipe dream.

The quicker we can all accept that PapaG is Right and just accept what he's saying as Truth, the sooner we can start having intelligent, reasonable discussions.

Why don't people see this? Just you and me, bud.

I just can't envision Paul and Roy playing together when you look at how Roy and Miller played together. Roy wants the ball, and really, he needs it to be effective because he's not very active without it. Perhaps he would take a backseat to Paul because unlike Miller, Paul is better than Roy. Who cares, though. Isn't happening. Monty probably made sure Paul wouldn't be traded before he took the job. No point in taking a job where you lose your best player because that pretty much means you'll be fired in 3 years.

I think that adding a Chris Paul without giving up Roy or Aldridge makes this a team that can contend for a title. Paul dragged David West and Tyson Chandler to a conference semi-finals.

First, "premonition" has nothing to do with it. 3 seasons, 82 games played. The guy makes Bowie look like an iron man.

Second, your stats argument is pretty well voided by small sample size. There are any number of players in NBA history who managed to string together a streak of 20 good games. Ask Billy Ray Bates what that is worth.

Dumb post. You're better than that.

If Roy stayed at this level alongside Paul, perhaps. But my opinion is that one of the two would have to take a step back in their game, because playing off the ball isn't their ideal game. And I assume that player would be Roy, since Paul is the superior player. Roy can certainly be valuable off the ball, but I don't think he can be as valuable as he has been as a scorer off cuts. A lot of his value comes in possessing the ball, forcing the defense to react and then making a play for himself or a teammate.

Roy said how easy the game was playing with Paul after the two played so well together in the 2008 All-Star game. Also, why is it taking so fucking long to post lately? I type, and the words don't show up until after a long delay.

Or, the change in role could help him stay healthy - increasing his productivity and extending his career.

There is an element of risk involved......but less than in the "Oden carries the team" scenario.
