I ask this in light of recent events surrounding a poster being threatened by another. If someone is so disruptive to the community, should they be removed for the overall health of the community? We can debate thin and thick skin, but if we tolerate trolling and baiting then we essentially set the stage for negative behavior. I would also make a reference to the OT forum here, I mean we have serious disagreements in that forum yet they remain civil for the most part. I have written things in the OT forum that were not very nice, and have had some things written about me that were not very nice. For example I believe that Maxie does not want me dead, nor do I want any harm to come to him.

I believe that the mods are here to work for the community, and their actions should be based on the views of the community. So I am putting up this poll to see how the community feels about holding votes to remove certain members of the community, or perhaps putting a "probation" system in place based on a vote from the community. We all know what the O-Live forum is like, and I think we can agree that we don't want that here.

It's a public forum, so for all intents and purposes, it's a right.

Besides, agree with him or not, he didn't do anything wrong. The idiot who attacked him did, and that person is the one that should be banned.

If you don't like someone's posts then put them on ignore.

I do have him on ignore, but that is not the point. The point is that in a strong forum community the ignore button would not be needed. If over half the forum population have someone on ignore, what is their value to the community?

A privilege. I am new to this whole chat room thing. This is the only place I do it. I am a very social person and have never had any problems making friends in the real world. I assume that people type on here the same way they talk or treat people while not on a computer. If you are a social retard off a computer, you probably are on it!

I can't stand you MM, but you are a fountain of knowledge and I could never put you on ignore!

I voted for probation btw, I think peer pressure can be a positive. If someone realizes that most people think they are a jerk, they are more likely to change their behavior or they will increase it and reveal their inability to be part of the community.

Some people need to step away from the computer and take a walk sometimes. Honestly - it's an internet message board.

Their value is to those who haven't put them on Ignore. A "strong community," IMO, is one that isn't threatened by someone who is merely annoying but not rules-breaking, especially when each individual is given the tool (Ignore feature) to filter out posters he/she doesn't want to read. All communities have elements that many consider annoying, but most just ignore/avoid (depending on the context of the community) those individuals.

That's my view, and it has been as both a moderator and a non-moderator on forums.

Who's to say the poster doesn't support the site by purchasing items from the ads? That would technically make that poster more valuable to the community than someone who didn't......Wouldn't it?

And the one thing to remember is that the community was set up for the fans, not the other way around. The ignore feature is there for a reason. If someone wants attention by posting certain things, and no one responds to it then they will stop. Same with my children. If they whine about something they get ignored, so they don't do it much.

I'm happy out relationship will never be awkward by one of us actually liking the other one. I have been worried about it for some time now

Sug, I mock your value system. You also appear foolish to the eyes of others.

Past instances in which I professed to like you were fraudulent.

When it comes to forums like this if you're not pissing someone off you're not participating correctly.

I agree with this. People get too sensitive and take things too serious online. If someone is threatening you online and you are freaking out about it, you need to step away from the computer for a little bit. Seriously.

It is ONLINE. What on Earth would you do if someone threatened you in real life, if you are scared of someone online?!

Good Lord lol seriously. Grow a pair and get over it.

Calling someone a pussy does not solve the problem.

So wait, you made this post. And it was YOU that someone is threatening?! lol wow, unreal.

You really, really need to step away from the computer man. Seriously. You have a problem.

But dude you are being a pussy. That is not a personal attack, you said it first. I am just saying. This is online bro. You need to man up and not be afraid of someone threatening you online.

Seriously bro. I feel bad for you. What would your girlfriend say if you told her that you are afraid of threats being made to you, on a FUCKING BLAZER BASKETBALL FORUM?!?!? Would she feel safe around you?!

lmfao wow

I voted for the mods to handle it for two reasons stated below.

First the threatener would have to actually know who the threatenee is. For example, my name isn't really LittleAlex. If you tried to find me through that name, you would be disappointed.

Second, the act of making threats on a message board is an inherently cowardly one. The threatener would probably not follow through even if they knew who they threatened.

I don't mean to discount the danger an unhinged lunatic poses to others. It's just that those types of people are a very small minority in a society that mostly plays by the rules. It seems to me that it is up to site to deal with such cowardly losers as they see fit. Maybe by probation or banning.

Nobody did anything to me. I have watched this community fold up before and be moved only to have the same issues come up once more. Now I see a threat to the board again in the way somethings are being dealt with. Since this is one of the best Blazer forums, I would like to keep it that way.

I don't see anywhere that I made the statement that someone was threatening me. :dunno:

It's a public forum

No it's not. While it may be viewable by the general public, it is privately owned and operated.

so for all intents and purposes, it's a right.

Nope, again. Those who own this site can decide who gets to participate. They own the site and they can block the IP address of anyone they wish, for any reason they wish. They own the site, they make the rules and they enforce the rules. Paricipating here is a privilege that can be revoked by those who pay the bills. Play by the rules, their rules, or get banned. It's as simple as that.

Let the mods do their job. They know the rules and it's their job to enforce them. Posting here should not be a popularity contest. Those who voice dissenting opinions should not just be tolerated, they should be embraced. Without opposing opinions, there isn't a whole lot to talk about.

Now, I do agree that some posters are total attention junkies and blatant trolls. The ONLY reason they post is to get a reaction. For them, there is the ignore feature. I recommend using it at your discretion. If you don't, please DO NOT RESPOND TO THE TROLLS . Responding gives them exactly what they so desparately crave - attention. Ignore them, they will get bored and go eslewhere for their attention fix. The next time one of these trolls starts a thread, I would LOVE to see ZERO responses. Feed them and they will just keep coming back for more. It's your choice.

At the end of the day, the moderators and admins do what the community wants--Even though some of you may not believe it.

If the majority of the community has a problem with a specific member that person in question will be handled. As they say, one rotten apple spoils the whole barrel, batch, tree, community--I have no fucking idea.

Basically the truth, but the privilege goes both ways. What's owned is machinery and software. It isn't much without people who take advantage that it's there. So you have the privilege of posting here, we have the privilege of having you here. Pretty fair deal. Our rules are our rules, sure, but I think they're the most generous anywhere on the Internet.

As for the rest, S2 is a public/open site. If we start picking and choosing who we allow as members, then it becomes a sort of closed club.

It's pretty sad to me that someone is trying to rationalize threatening other people based off of it being online. Like using the internet means it's ok to be an ass. Maybe I'm weird for thinking things I say online should be things I'd be willing to say in person.

just lost 5 minutes of my life i will never get back reading this thread.
