With the Denver Nuggets having agreed to terms with Carmelo Anthony and Nene over the weekend, Martin never has been more available for the taking. Pairing Martin, a rugged power forward, with Eddy Curry is something Thomas has thought long and hard about since February. However, the Knicks are reluctant to part with Channing Frye, the most desired player on the roster.

Denver needs a shooting guard but the Nuggets have little interest in Steve Francis. Jamal Crawford is a possibility, especially coming off a good season. Denver would prefer salary cap relief in the form of an expiring contract like Maurice Taylor or Jalen Rose.

Thomas hinted last week that he didn't expect to make any significant changes to the roster. In fact, there are whispers around the league that James Dolan is reluctant to add another fat contract to his league-high payroll.

Martin is scheduled to earn $71 million over the next five years and is coming off a season in which he struggled with a surgically repaired knee. He also had an infamous falling-out with coach George Karl during the playoffs and was basically thrown off the team. The Mavericks reportedly are interested in Martin, who grew up in Dallas.

"You need a partner to make a trade," Karl told the Denver Post. "We're not going to hurt our team. We're only going to make our team better."

Not a big fan of the contract and the knee injury, but I would be willing to throw in Francis if we get Martin and Patterson in the deal, two defensive-minded players to help us in that aspect.

Isiah please. Say no, there's only so many huge contracts a team can take on before going insane. If he pulls the trigger on this deal I have one question to ask Knick fans, when will he FINALLY get fired? New York might have a parade for the event.

Jamal Crawford is awesome, I still think him and Curry should make a 2 good punch combo in a few years. Yeah if the Knicks can ship Francis or Marbury for K-Mart they should do it. It would clear up the messy backcourt.

Trading Jamal Crawford for Kenyon Martin straight up doesn't work capwise, but if you added Jerome James to the deal, it would. I'm sure most Knicks fans would love to see his overpaid, unproductive ass shipped out of town.

However, it's important that Thomas realizes that he's not going to win in the short-term, so he shouldn't keep gambling on high risk-high reward players like Curry, James, Richardson, Francis, and Martin, because usually he winds up getting the raw end of the deal and putting the Knicks further in debt financially and in terms of draftable assets.

The smart move would be to just wait it out. Isiah Thomas has done so much damage to this organization that one or two trades won't fix it. They need to let all the unnecessarily large contracts slide off the books, they need to repay all of their draft debts, and then they can finally start the rebuilding process.

Well the problem with that line of thinking as far as Isiah Thomas is concerned is that he's only got the short-term. He's been given a public ultimatum to turn this team around or get canned. So the short-term is all he is concerned about at this point. Why worry about the long-term if he's going to be unemployed when the long-term rolls around. So it's a pretty safe to say that Isiah Thomas is going to pull out all the stops. He's going to take on as much salary as he thinks it will take to squeeze out a few more wins out of this team before he finally gets the boot. In other words good bye expiring contract and hello overpaid, overrated, always injured, cancererous Kenyon Martin. He'll fit right in.
