This is what I don't get. Why does it matter if you're going to pay less in taxes? Why does it matter if some local jurisdiction is going to get "stimulus" money that may benefit you in some way? The country--already spending at an unsustainable pace--is going even more deeply into debt, and it's debt that my generation can't hope to begin to pay off. Instead, we leave it for our kids. Frankly, I have a tough time looking at my son and telling him he's responsible for making sure my life is easier at the expense of making him poorer.

Government does too many things and only does a couple of them well. They are dramatically more inefficient than the private sector and once the Government starts a program, good luck trying to end it. Yet, this is the model we're going to use going forward? It's about freedom and liberty, and the Federal Government is encroaching dangerously on both.

You're right in saying you don't get it.

The debt is already there.

To put it simply, you saved money in the bank for your son's food and clothing for the next few decades.

Banker Bush stole it. Assuming you don't plan on letting him starve or die from exposure, you will have to replace that which Bush stole from you/your son's future care.

Banker Obama, who had nothing to do with this theft, has arranged the financing so your son will not die.

If you blame Banker Obama for the debt, you are either a very confused individual, or an ungrateful ass.

Because those are the same people that would complain to the mountains if he dare raised their taxes to help pay for the huge debt the previous president left us.

You think they'll happily do that, because they're worried about the country going into huge debt? They'd be calling him a "tax and spend liberal" and that he's "stealing their money" and wish that he'd cut their taxes.

And god forbid they realize that this is them cutting off their noses to spite their faces.

Government does too many things and only does a couple of them well.

Besides spending money, what do they do well?

Or, I understand finance much better than do you.

Again, the outrage wasn't against a dramatic increase in taxes, but rather a dramatic increase in the role of government, which will result in a necessary increase in taxes for EVERYONE over the long term. It blows my mind that people can't do the simple math to see that only the people making over $250K can't possibly pay for these programs. It's going to mean higher taxes for everyone, not just the "rich".

I don't pretend to speak for those people (and neither should you), but I would be HIGHLY receptive to a presidential candidate who ran on limiting government, making it more efficient and raising taxes to set up a payment plan for our National debt. Implicit in that agreement is that when the debt was paid off, my taxes would decrease.

And god forbid they realize that this is them cutting off their noses to spite their faces.

How so? Because you believe that President Obama is really working in their best interests by massively increasing the size and scope of government?

Besides spending money, what do they do well?

National defense.

my impression of people in this thread: "waah, they downt wike out twea pawties."

it's a stupid fucking idea. get over it.

So you believe that peaceful demonstrations are a bad idea? That we should idly accept whatever government tells us to do? Well, it's an opinion.

That's stunning. Absolutely stunning. I would laugh at that report if it were an SNL sketch or something on the Colbert Report, but they're pretending to be a news reporting organization. If you're Brian Williams or Tom Brokaw (who still does special features for NBC), how can you not decry this sort of thing? The "MS" in the name still doesn't remove the "NBC". Seriously, would Tim Russert have stood for this? Tim Russert would have called New York and told them to take him off of MSNBC.

I stopped the video at 41 seconds. This can't be real can it?

Un fukkin real!

When a gay rights protest gets covered by Fox news, they should just flat out call them silly AIDS infested homos and we will see what the liberals think.

This better not be edited. If it is, I guarantee the Blazers will lose due to bad Karma. Don't do it.

Actually its more about a news organization taking your same cavalier attitude towards protesters because they happen to disagree with their political ideals.

It wasn't edited and we still lost. :sigh:

You owe us a win. :drumroll:

Congrats. You just posted the most idiotic text on the interwebs.

I had the worst day, was in a foul mood all day. Just knew this was going to happen, didn't want to lose but could stomach a loss if we played hard. I was thinking tonight about following Nascar or some other sport that I really don't care about.

Trying to think that there are more important things than sports, just hard to do when you have been so disappointed after all of these years.

Back on topic, I just worry that this country and everyone in it just worries about themselves and doesn't give two shakes what is right or wrong. We need to have some standards and live by them. Some of these news clips make me sad, I wasn't old enough to see Walter Cronkite but I can't imagine him saying stuff like these "reporters" say on the air.

One of our local newscasters went on some rant on air about some newspaper writing something about her unprofessionalism last year. She went off and put a tiara on her head and told the newspaper not to mess with the "queen" as she called herself.

She should have been fired on the spot, but between Britney Spears stories and stories about the motorcross or the rodeo coming to town the local news doesn't care what they say.

I agree with you (if I'm not missing your point) that we no longer have a free and unbiased press and regrettably never will again.

Obama is trying to get the country out of a recession and the teabaggers are doing all they can to undermine his efforts. It's very clear that they want America to fail.

They want Obama's America to fail, and in case Fox News hasn't told you yet, there's a big. fuck. difference.

If Obama's America is a socialist government

Yes. They want Obama's america to fail.

If Obama's America is one where you have to pay for your neighbor's house.

Yes. They want Obama's america to fail.

If Obama's America is one where private companies are bailed out by the government.

Yes. They want Obama's america to fail.

If Obama's America is one where you are punished for success and rewarded by failure and mediocrity.

Yes. They want Obama's america to fail.

If Obama's America is one where you are raped by nazis every day.

Yes. They want Obama's America to fail.

Saying it doesn't make it true.

If Obama's America is a socialist government

It's not.

If Obama's America is one where you have to pay for your neighbor's house.

You don't.

If Obama's America is one where private companies are bailed out by the government.

So I guess they wanted Bush's America to fail too, then? Somehow I doubt it.

If Obama's America is one where you are punished for success and rewarded by failure and mediocrity.
Oh, come on. This is a typical conservative tactic: boil down any situation that's not mass tax cuts to "punishing the rich" and "rewarding failure." Way to keep it realistic. Good show.

Well, that's what they're protesting. As much as you stating they want America to fail, these points are just as valid as your presumptions.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner.

That's like wishing for the Blazers to lose because Frye is your favorite player and they leave him on the bench.

Someone who wishes that the Blazers lose isn't really a fan of the Blazers.

So . . . a basketball team is just like the most powerful country in the world? Great analogy!!

To go with the Blazer comparison that actually makes sense:

It is like a Blazer fan wanting a trade to fail that trades Oden for Shaq, and LMA for Duncan... right now.

Sure, Shaq and Duncan would possibly help us win a couple more games right now. But the cost is destroying our future.

Depends on what you mean by 'fail'. If by 'fail' you mean 'not happen', then I don't have a problem with it.
If by 'fail' you mean 'happen but bring disastrous consequences', then I think that's just wishing ill on the team.

Since Obama is in fact already President, it seems to me that wishing for him to fail is closer to the latter than the former.
