They can. If it goes to vote it would have where the money comes from.

Waiting for an issue to be solved by one entity instead of doing it yourself as a state is blasphemy. If all states took that advice the amount of progress that would have been delayed in this world would be crazy.
If they put it on the ballot I’ll vote for it. However, I don’t think we’ll see it on the ballot.

I don’t think so. I don’t believe a state could fit it in their budget.
A 2.2% income tax and 6.8% payroll tax would be a lot of money. And would save employees and employers money (unless they don't cover healthcare for their employees, or if those employees are extremely high wage).

With the current economic climate in Oregon I don’t think that would be enough.

A 6% sales tax should easily fund state health care costs for all Oregonians. I like that my tax money is spent locally on services rather than going to the Feds to fund all sorts of shady shit. I also like that tourists would be contributing to Oregon's well being when they spend money here.

All those assholes who moved to Vancouver to scam their way out of paying their fair share will bitch and moan.

A sales tax is regressive, though. Not sure I can get behind that...

The first state that offers Medicare for all will go broke providing it, and its homeless population will increase exponentially.

There are people literally dying in this country because of a lack of healthcare. Their insurance companies have denied them or their loved ones care. If there was a chance you could save yourself, a child, a loved one, or a parent just by moving to another state, you would do it.

Healthcare for all needs to be solved at the federal level.

But then people from other countries will want to come here.
We have to be shittier than the worst shithole country, and then people will not want to come here.
Then we will have won!

As it stands you need 2 pieces of ID and a piece of mail to get a library card proving you're a resident. Most state services like even the DMV won't provide any assistance to residents in the state without lots of proof of residence. I'd imagine a state run health clinic system would have to be established but they probably could not afford expensive surgical procedures but probably prescriptions and flu shots and general practice services neighborhood style. With my Taiwanese national healthcare funded by sales tax for 23 million residents a 10 day stay in the hospital with 72 injections of antibiotics and 24 hour care cost me at the time a copay of 800 dollars. Common prescriptions for most ailments would be about a $4 copay..Today that'd be a bit more as that was the 90s.

I can't believe how flat the Christmas season seems this year...I don't hear the music everywhere or see much promotion or shopping or even decorations...my neighbors who always go all out for decorations haven't put anything out this year....it's as if the govt fired a lot of people and shut down for the last couple months or something.....not much expendable income and import tariffs have snuffed out stocking stuffers! Trumpenomics is dampening the holidays.
But every Dutch Bros I drive by, cars are lines up to throw 5-7 dollars out the window for fu fu Java.

Unemployment is up in December which shows how fucked the economy is at the peak of holiday season. GOP is the party of the clueless

Yes, I know you can generate money that way. But it hurts the poor.

I'd prefer a tax on businesses who exploit our natural resources and the wealthy.
People with expendable income pay more in a sales tax than poor people. It's funded by shoppers after all. Poor people are going to buy things as well and if it contributes to their health care for them and their children, it's a win win. Buy a Rolex, you pay more tax than buying a bag of rice. In essence you are taxing the wealthy more with a sales tax. As it stands large corporations can price gouge poor people with no contribution to their health care for no reason other than greed.
