This is concerning

Wow, so basically Arizona will always go red now. I am sure other states with republican controlled legislatures will be right behind this doing the same thing. Democracy is fucked.

If Democrats did this there would be such a shitstorm

Perhaps, the Republican party will be land slided and normality will continue.

From what I read, the stimulus money is in the 1.9 trillion dollar package the Dems are going to shove down the Republicans' throats.
My Question is: "What is the pork included in this budget".
Rand Paul released his 2020 Festivus report which clearly earmarked stupidity infused in projects like, but not limited to; Afghanistan counter narcotics, Filipino Youth, Theatrical plays in Mumbai, Youth clubs in Pakistan, and the classic Teaching English to unemployed rural Romanian citizens.
Domestically, for Health Care: Studies to eat ground up bugs, Why stress makes your hair turn gray (Hell! Pay me: It's politicians and budgets), Develop a masters degree to researcher ethics in Myanmar and the classic Help people get over their fears of going to the dentist. Check this out. It is real! This is why corruption in both parties is as rampant as hundred years ago.
All the 31 ridiculous expenditures should have the politicians' name next to each one. These politicians don't really care about us. Rather, they seek absurd programs to dump your tax dollars.

Bottom Line: $54,746,524,505.57. in WASTE. The average taxpayer pays about $10,006.55. Uncle Sam wasted the taxes of 5,471,368 people.

Biden promised $2,000 checks immediately. Here it is the 30th of January, 10 days after Biden took office with Americans still in desperate need of that money, and your angle is pork?!?

That is correct. Biden can't 'immediately' send out checks, it requires congress to act first.

Or perhaps Rand Paul is misrepresenting a lot of that.

He's such a honest guy, he wouldn't do that, would he?

The 30th of January is 10 days after the 20th of January.

Biden promised $2,000 checks immediately. Here it is the 30th of January, 24 days after Biden took office with Americans still in desperate need of that money, and your angle is pork?!?

IIRC, it was going to be $1400 added to the $600 stimulus earlier

Biden promised $2,000 checks. Anything else is just an excuse. Biden said: $2,000 checks, not $1,400+ checks.

Edit: It seems like another odd angle to take. America is in the middle of it's worse crisis since the great depression, with millions of Americans desperate for help, and Biden promised this money immediately and has yet to get around to helping those same Americans who helped him win Georgia. Not to mention, those people who helped him win the presidency.

It's only odd to people who don't know how the US system works. Biden can't appropriate money to send to people as a unilateral act, Congress has to pass the legislation for him to sign. If he refuses to sign such legislation, then it's a Biden issue.

The Rand Festuvis report was for the 2020 budget. You should research it and not presume he misrepresented these facts. . As we all know, pork is thrown into a proposed budget. Rand is unique as he had outlined waste that this Government is known for. To view it as a line item sets your perspectives into a new level. Stay happy, my pirate friend.

Why not sell his Corvette and give everyone that money?

You are missing the point, my friend. It requires Congress to pass a bill. In this case, a Democratically controlled Congress will pass it and line items could be absurd. I'm giving the S2 members a perspective that this bill will be porked and will make forensic accountants' cringe. The $2K checks may be there, along with Pork based on what Congress decides or has decided. .

Biden has republicans on record stating that they would vote for a stand alone bill for $2,000 checks to Americans. 80% of Americans are in favor of $2,000 checks. Biden has the leverage to pass the bill quickly. He took an alternative route that will take longer while Americans suffer amid a pandemic. Americans should have been Biden's first priority. Americans came in 2nd behind impeaching Trump it seems.

Democrats could use reconciliation to pass the bill even without republican support. You only need a 51-50 majority that way, which democrats now have with Kamala's tie breaking vote. Yet Biden chose a different, lengthier, path while Americans are in desperate need of money.

I am asking please here. Everyone, stop telling me that I don't know shit. Show me that I don't know shit.

I am a calm guy. I never state you don't know "shit". I respect yours and other's opinions. I found out interpretation is a wide range matter. Insults are not my style. I only clarify my point of view when needed. Peace to ya Bro....

From what I've read, reconciliation has to be tied to a federal budget proposal, which is not a quick process.

The point is, Biden actually has the leverage right now, with several republicans on board for a stand alone bill for $2,000 checks. Yet he chose to butt heads with republicans on a 1.9 trillion dollar package rather than get money to Americans who are in desperate need of it now. Biden could be forcing republicans to take a stance on a highly popular bill, 80% public support, last I saw. If republicans stand in it's way, America will make them pay for it. So the stance that democrats can't get it done now, isn't an exceptionally strong one as I see it. Democrats may very well pay for dragging the process out longer. We will see.

Edit: I will post a video that shows the stats I am using. If I can find it. Didn't sleep well last night. I probably shouldn't even be trying to chat with humans today, lol.

Here is Biden on record saying $2,000 checks.

I am sorry, I am not upset. I just find it odd that people jump into defense of their candidate mode with opinions, rather than bringing anything real. People are dying and everyone seems more concerned about what I see as semantics, is all. Take it easy. :lollipop:

Edit: I see things so differently from other people. I sometimes wish we could all plug ourselves into each others heads, it would be so much easier for everyone to understand each other that way. One downside though would be everyone finding out about, you know, that... one time! :bgrin:

Plus, reconciliation can only be used once per year. It would be a huge waste to use it to accomplish only the $2k checks.

Can't they pass a reconciliation to give them more reconciliations?

Kind of like when the genie gives you 3 wishes, your first wish you ask for more wishes.

I'm old enough to remember William Proxmire and his 'Golden Fleece' awards. Rand Paul is just a very poor imitation. And yes, I've read his crappy report.

A lot of what Rand objects to is stuff not that Congress explicitly required in the budget, but stuff the administration decided to spend money on. These are not congressional earmarks but agency decisions. For example, most if not all scientific studies aren't mandated by Congress, the various federal agencies get a pot of money and they decide what programs to fund. And of course Rand Paul is not qualified to comment on the usefulness of ANY scientific study, unless it involves eyesight. But it makes headlines and gets taxpayers mad when he says the government is wasting money.

I'm not claiming everything Rand Paul complains about is incorrect. You'd actually have to look into the details of each item to determine that, to understand what the government was trying to accomplish and what they did in fact accomplish. I haven't done that, but more importantly, Rand Paul hasn't either. He's just bullshitting, finding things that he can make sound bad and doing whatever he can to misrepresent them.

No doubt there is government waste. Some of it due to corruption, some due to incompetence or indifference, some due to bad luck, bad timing, bad data, human error, etc.

But this isn't a good guide to finding it.

Is it an insult if what you say is blatantly true? That's an academic question and has little to do with the topic.

Two clarifications:
1. Proxmire's award pointed out examples in the Millions of dollars whereas Dirkson said "A Billion here, a Billion there, pretty soon you are talking real money;
2. Rand Paul is a Libertarian and doesn't believe in anything more than a minimal government, more minimal than even most Republicans are comfortable with.
So I think comparing Rand Paul's analysis to Senator Proxmire's Golden Fleece Award is misleading.
