Yes my understanding is trades can happen as soon as both teams are done. But since it one would probably include our pick I would doubt anything happens until the lottery. Just in case we win......
The Dude doesn't put a lot of stock into +/-
If you did, you'd check his +/- over the season.
I'm hoping Olshey is smart enough to realize that McGee (and his double, DeAndre Jordan) are fool's gold.
With the right team, McGee would succeed. Denver doesn't play to his strengths. They are a run and gun team. If you have a half court heavy team, I suspect him being so much better.
Why do you think he would be better on a half court team? He has little/no offense in a half court set. He seems to run pretty well. I thought he was better on a team like Denver. Although I admit GS is not a good match up for him as Karl elected (Until last night) not to play his centers much.
My problem with him is he does not seem very smart on D. He is still young, but is he willing to learn? He has the physical tools.
Or does he think because of his contract he has already arrived? I have no doubt he will be on the trading block. I agree that with the right team/coach he could succeed. Not sure though if that team is Portland.
Because he still sets good picks and is a good offensive rebounder. At least in terms of talent. Also, he's for the ability to post up. He needs a mentor to develop that part of his game. Aldridge can help and possibly bringing in Hakeem will help too.
Actually he really never needs to post up IMO. All we need from our center (On the offense end) is to be able to set screens, handle a pass when wide open, be able to dribble a few times and then dunk it. Plus have the ability to shoot free throws so he can actually play late in games. No post up game is required. Just enough offense so the other team has to guard him.
So for McGee the free throw issue is a problem IMO, however it seems like most defensive centers suck at the line.
It looks like successful teams are able to pound the ball inside in the playoffs. The game slows down a lot, and unless you are a team like Golden State who hits an odd amount of 3's, then you have to have an inside game. Draw fouls and punish the defense for not double teaming. It would be nice to be able to throw the ball inside and watch a center destroy the other team, or be able to pass out to a wide open Damian, Wes or Nic. Marc Gasol seems to be a good defensive center who doesn't block a ton of shots. Maybe that stat isn't all that important?
True but how many center can do that better than LMA? Let alone centers who are available. Do we need both our bigs doing it?
Now I know some will say LMA doesn't do it enough and that may be true. But the game is changing and the little guys with handles who can score need the ball in their hands, not big guys who all seem to have poor handles and horrible free throw shooting ability. Yes there are exceptions, but not many.
Sure I would like to have a center who can do it all, but let's be realistic, are we going to find one? I will take one with the skills I mentioned above. i am not greedy. Teaching McGee to post up is a waste of time.
Howard
Amare (including him because he normally plays a lot)

McGee
Drummond
Aldridge
Jordan
Valanciunas
If having a center who can draw free throws is such an important commodity, how come nearly everybody on your list isn't in the playoffs anymore?
Meanwhile, pretty much every team still alive in the playoffs has a starting big man or two relied on mostly for solid defense and rebounding. We have none.
