I think he has been great but it depends on how far Joe is still into the whole "build around Dame" business. If they let him walk it would be easier to build for the future. Who knows, he may want to bolt for greener pastures with a bona fide contender.

Lock him up for 5 years..see if he will accept stability for less overall scratch.....he's a keeper and he's the right age vet with a skillset we haven't had since Aldridge. We're at the point where Jody is going to have to sign off on becoming a team in the luxury tax if we want a balanced roster that contends now. If they don't then they're not finding that guy on the cheap anytime soon...it'll be Trendon Watford/Jabari Walker time. Neither are starters or near Grant's two way game.

I would be fine with the 4 year 112, but the others I don't think suits us for the long term. We shall see either way, but my gut says he will wait until the offseason to see what waits for him out there besides us.

5/233 is an insane amount of money. I like what he is bringing to the team, but not sure that it's worth an average of 46 million.

And honestly, if someone else wants to offer him close to the 43 million he'd get as a max from another team, they can go right ahead and do it. Thankfully, and hopefully, the team doesn't pull a Neil Olshey and bid against themselves here.

I've seen what Jody got for Paul's 100 empty acres in Hollywood, his yacht and his mansion and recording studio in Hollywood....she's worth well over 20 billion dollars...the last thing I worry about with the front office is paying luxury tax or handing out big contracts to keep a competitive team in Portland that will fill the stands. I've never really understood how fans latch onto her money like she needs to pinch pennies or something.

Grant has been very good. I hope he signs an extension this month for 4/112 (~$28M/ea).

The most that I'd be willing to spend on Grant is ~$32-35M/yr (or 4/135). He's not a super-star & at his current level of play he's barely in the conversation for being a fringe all-star level.

If Grant is happy on this team and in his role - I can see both parties inking a deal before the season is complete.

The lady who writes the checks cares and that's the one that matters. You have 29 other teams to root for Aldo...find one you enjoy cheering for. That works for me...this is my team win or lose. Plenty to feel optimistic about if you look at the injuries and disjointed roster experiments first half of the season. I've got my gripes but I'm still here cheering when I can...I don't remember ever reading you cheer so all that doom and gloom makes zero sense to me. I have complaints but jesus man...Choices....make the right ones for your entertainment needs dude

the problem is setting a ceiling/flor for all-star/non-all-star money

22 players are making more than 35M this season and that does not include Devin Booker, Embiid, Jokic, Harden, Brandon Ingram, SGA, Donovan Mitchell, Jaysun Tatum, Jalen Brown, DeRozan, Sabonis. Zion and Ja Morant start their extensions next season at 33M

42 players are making over 30M this season, and 40 players, not counting what happens the rest of the season or the off-season, will be making over 30M next season

for Grant, signing him to a 4-year/112M deal looks like a bargain. Of course, I don't know why he'd sign for that little. He's averaging 22.3 points while shooting 44% on three's and posting a TS of .625. He's likely fall off those numbers some, but if it isn't much of a drop he'll be a hot item in free agency with his length and versatility. His floor may be 30M/year

I think that's a very important part of Cronin and the front offices job. As we've found out, many times, overpaying good players quickly turns them from a positive asset to a negative one, stripping the team of future flexibility and leverage.

I fully expect us to resign Grant. Hopefully it's for a contract that allows us to pivot if need be.

Jeremy Lin was voted in one year....I'd say Jerami is way more qualified than Lin ever was....a lot of old past the prime stars get the vote too like old Dirk or Melo or even Kobe at the end when they clearly weren't better than younger guys at their position anymore...the fact is it's a popularity contest, not an achievement like all NBA first team would be. It's money as well.

We could certainly play the game of Grant is better than this guy who made an all-star team and then Grant is worse than this other guy who got left out of the all-star team one year.

While fan voting certainly leads to a wonky selection every 5 years or so, I think we can agree that overall, the best 20 players almost always make the all-star team. It's not like the 24 nicest or most marketable guys make up the all-star rosters.

There was no way lin wasn't getting in that year lol.

They do have the legacy thing, but yeah IIRC was it kobe... But someone bowed out so Lillard could get in the ASG. Forget who though.

I'm willing to bet he won't make the all-star roster on its initial release this year or next, just like he hasn't in previous years. Same with All-NBA. He's closer to the 20th best player in the West than he is the 12th.

We did this same song in dance with CJ for years. People kept saying his numbers were basically good enough for him to be considered an all-star, yet he continued to not make the all-star team.
