Jimmy Butler wants out? (He does.)

Given what we know about Neil, I really doubt he offers CJ up in a trade, especially without assurance from Jimmy that he'll stay. Don't think he has the guts to do it.

Of course he doesn’t. Our big move was Seth Curry, who by the way will bounce next summer.

Olsheys next move will be handing Aminu to someone in February to get under the tax.

"Look, we're not going to overreact and bifurcate the backcourt, even for another star on the same career arc as Damian. On a macro level, CJ's an important element to our overall strategy."

“But at the same time we’re not going to underreact, and we’ll regroup here and spend the next couple of weeks looking to upgrade the rotation, but as you know Brook, it takes two. We also have the trade deadline in February and Nurkic and you know and you know and you know and you kn

It will take more than that. we are $11,769,290 over the tax threshold and Aminu only makes $6,957,105.

The only players on our roster who will make more than $11,769,290 in 2018-19 are Dame, C.J. and Turner. If only it was as easy as "handing" Turner to someone...

Yeah we are not getting below the tax this year. Harkless would be tough to trade without taking close to equivalent of his salary and there’s no combination of Aminu + someone that would get you to $11.8million AND be easy to trade.

We are paying the tax this year anyway.

There's also the issue of most teams used up their cap space this summer. Other than trade exceptions I think Sacramento is the only team that can take on a contract of any significance.

When did LMA become our GM?

They did when David Kahn was GM and intent on raiding our roster. Not so sure that's still the case.

Thibs was in the East forever (BOS and CHI). Even in MIN he's 2 time zones away from Portland. The one, and only, time POR and MIN met in the playoffs was 19 seasons ago. Doesn't sound like much of a rivalry to me.

Being in the same division does not increase the likelihood of meeting in the post season, and winning the division got bumped down to second tie breaker (after head to head record) in 2016. Sure trading him to the East means only seeing him twice a year and further decreases the likelihood of meeting him in the playoffs (assuming the NBA doesn't adopt a 16 best teams playoff regardless of conference format), but sending him to POR is no worse than sending him to any other team in the West, and actually better than having him end up someplace like GSW, HOU, SAS, LAL, etc.

so you really don't look at them as a division rival?
I bet the Blazers.

No, I've been a Blazer fan for over four decades and can't recall a single time I've ever considered MIN a rival. Even the one time we met them in the playoffs, they were a first round speed bump on our way to taking the Lakers to seven games in the Western Conference Finals.

We have an all time record of 81-33, a .711 wining percentage, against MIN. That is our highest winning percentage against any Western Conference team. MIN is POR's bitch. To be a rival, you need to be relevant.

that got me curious...I'm now a big fan of this website.

and this one.

Check out where Minnesota falls in both total wins and %.

Yep, SAC is the only team currently under the salary cap. They are $11,024,575 under the cap. While it may be possible to come up with some combination of players/salaries that would work under the CBA and get us under the tax threshold, I'm not seeing any obvious combinations that would work. Maybe something involving a 3rd or 4th team, but even then, we'd need to give up something of significant value to convince someone to take on the last two years of Evan Turner's or Meyer's Leonard's contract

Turner, Moe, and Simons for Butler and Dieng let’s go already.

But Jrue Holiday is, and is also someone he can score on, which is more than could be said for CJ, and could certainly have made the difference in that Pelicans series.

Come one dude, we beat Rondo and Holiday a thousand times before. Make no mistake - Anthony Davis was the difference maker in that series.

Good points.
So who would you consider are rival now?

Lets run a pick and roll every time down the court against the best pick and roll big in the game today.
What could go wrong?

Stotts was ass at coaching in that series.

If we somehow got Butler and he left Neil would surely be fired, so it's a win win either way!

:biglaugh:

Interesting, Im higher on Trent than Simons.
I see Trent as a nice rotation player on a good team. Probably a sixth man type.

Simons on the other hand has very intriguing potential. His ceiling is much more unclear but could be anywhere from star to bust. It's certainly more of a risk but with Dame, CJ, and Butler neither Trent or Simons is going to play much so I'd rather have the breakout upside of Simons being groomed for the future.

Our division rival is the Thunder formerly the Sonics.

The Timberwolves have and will never be our division rival.

We got a little peeved when the Rubechat Minny fans started posting dick pics on here, but that had nothing to do with the on court stuff.

Neil; please prove to us that we are wrong about you!
