Yeah we are not getting below the tax this year. Harkless would be tough to trade without taking close to equivalent of his salary and there’s no combination of Aminu + someone that would get you to $11.8million AND be easy to trade.

They did when David Kahn was GM and intent on raiding our roster. Not so sure that's still the case.

Thibs was in the East forever (BOS and CHI). Even in MIN he's 2 time zones away from Portland. The one, and only, time POR and MIN met in the playoffs was 19 seasons ago. Doesn't sound like much of a rivalry to me.

Being in the same division does not increase the likelihood of meeting in the post season, and winning the division got bumped down to second tie breaker (after head to head record) in 2016. Sure trading him to the East means only seeing him twice a year and further decreases the likelihood of meeting him in the playoffs (assuming the NBA doesn't adopt a 16 best teams playoff regardless of conference format), but sending him to POR is no worse than sending him to any other team in the West, and actually better than having him end up someplace like GSW, HOU, SAS, LAL, etc.

Yep, SAC is the only team currently under the salary cap. They are $11,024,575 under the cap. While it may be possible to come up with some combination of players/salaries that would work under the CBA and get us under the tax threshold, I'm not seeing any obvious combinations that would work. Maybe something involving a 3rd or 4th team, but even then, we'd need to give up something of significant value to convince someone to take on the last two years of Evan Turner's or Meyer's Leonard's contract

Interesting, Im higher on Trent than Simons.

I see Trent as a nice rotation player on a good team. Probably a sixth man type.

Simons on the other hand has very intriguing potential. His ceiling is much more unclear but could be anywhere from star to bust. It's certainly more of a risk but with Dame, CJ, and Butler neither Trent or Simons is going to play much so I'd rather have the breakout upside of Simons being groomed for the future.
