Dieng isnt a bad player, but it would mean that someone like Layman, Biggie, or even an Oliver would have to be ready for minutes. Maybe even pick up a McCullough.

Ehh, he's not using the disability to have a chuckle. He could say "You having trouble with (insert symptoms of dementia here)?"... I don't see the difference between that and saying "Do you have dementia?" He's not being disparaging to people with dementia, so I don't see where the sensitivity comes from.

While I agree that making light of disabilities is in poor taste ("aspies being aspies" for example), I have been known to say that I will probably get dementia. My grandmother, and all her sisters had it, my dad is showing early signs of it, so it runs in my family...but it's the only running I will ever do.

I reject the notion that Butler bolting would require Portland to trade Dame.

CJ is good, but he's nowhere near the level that we need to really contend. If Butler leaves and we loose the asset of CJ, it's a step back - but not insurmountable. I still think its well worth the risk.

Sorry, but I disagree. Dame is 28 years old. If the Blazers traded for Butler he still isn’t the missing piece for contention. They’d still need a dependable starting SF and they would need Nurk and Collins to step up their contributions dramatically. They would have no clear path to the SF they need. Given that, the likelihood of Butler walking after one year is high. How do you build a contender from that point if you’ve essentially given CJ’s trade value away for one year of Butler? If FAs won’t come here with CJ, they sure aren’t coming if Dame is the lone star.

I think the Blazers know that the Lillard/CJ window is about three years. If they don’t get to contention by then I’d expect we’d see Dame and CJ traded for picks and ending contracts and the Blazers would go all-in on rebuilding around the young guys they already have: Nurk, Collins, Trent and Simons.
