Jimmy Butler wants out? (He does.)

Am I the only one that would be a little nervous about trading some combination of Collins, Simons, Trent, 1st pick and filler for Butler? I originally thought it would take CJ, but Minne could do a lot worse. KAT, Collins, Wiggins, Trent, Simons, pick could be an interesting lineup in a few years when GS might be fading.

Overall I think you have to focus on Dame and if you have a chance to compete now you have to take it. I guess if it fails then you rebuild harder without Collins and Simons.

I lived through the Kiki Vandeweghe trade once, don't need to live through it twice. Not saying that Kiki and Jimmy are the same player, but giving up a lot of players for 1 player might be a bad idea, especially if it's for 1 year rental. Lose Collins, Simons, Trent and a 1st round pick for a player who might leave in a year?

No thanks.

From what I have read, Thibs is only interested in players who can help him right now. Of those mentioned, only Collins would be close on that.

I believe media day is today(?) You’d think a team trading for him wouldnt want to be out there introducing players they are going to trade soon after.

For example that would be really weird to roll out Harkless and whom ever as Blazers then tomorrow trade them...

I think Thibs ideal trade would be Turner, Aminu and Collins for Butler and Dieng. I think their owner would be OK with that also.

Man.... we would be thin at power forward. I think another deal would have to be made.

At the end of the day [CJ's] locked up for another couple years.
Therefore there is no rush to trade him away for an injury prone, high milage, character issue, 30 year old supermax contract Jimmy Butler.
This is where I'm at on this topic. I'm not against trading CJ, but I don't think I'd gamble our most valuable trade asset on Butler without some sort of assurance/protection.

I don't think it's ever been done, and is not likely to be done, but I also don't know that there are rules against this idea: It would be interesting if, as a way for teams to protect against the "rental" scenario, MIN would include a conditional draft pick in the trade - as in, if Butler walks we get a MIN pick but if Butler stays MIN keeps the pick. Obviously this would only happen in a scenario where MIN wants a specific package (CJ in this example).

We could add Leonard to the deal and take back Gibson. We would have to add a bit player also to make salaries match. I'm not really strong on this deal; as I have said I would rather trade CJ than Collins. I am just positing what I think Thibs would want.

Here's the take from David Aldridge. He explains better what Butler wanted from Minnesota financially; claims Minnesota wants a first round pick and young veterans and does not mention Portland as a team that should be going after Butler. (Interesting to me that he thinks if Washingon offered Otto Porter, that would not be enough.)

Well, Turner and Aminu are still younger than Butler; but to give them up plus Zach Collins and a first round pick, that seems too much. Although if you consider Turner a negative and Aminu gone in a year anyway, well........

Aminu, Harkless, Simons, and our pick?

Not enough.

Collins is the minimum we would need to include and that would only work if we added pick or picks and Minnesota were really high on Collins potential. They are building around Towns so I don’t know.

CJ is probably the only offer that would give us a reasonable chance and beat other offers.

I kind of agree that the only way Wolves trade him to the same division / Portland CJ & Collins both would be the asking price.

Depends on what the other offers are

Aminu, Harkless, Simons, and our pick?
How about this...

Aminu, Harkless, Leonard (unless they really wanted Turner instead), Trent, and a 2019 1st rounder for Butler and Dieng

Dame
CJ
Butler
Collins
Nurk

Baldwin
Curry
Turner
Layman
Dieng

Simons
Swanigan
Stauskas
2 Open Roster Spots

As much as I hate the idea of giving up Collins, that's a risk you take. No team is better at finding quality PFs, and a high energy tough guy like Swanigan might actually look good alongside Butler, despite his obvious limitations.

Im sure everyone realizes that if the Blazers don't end up with Butler, it doesn't mean that Neil didn't propose a decent enough pkg.
I would believe that if hasn’t been on the job for 6+ years making the same excuse year after year... if that’s the case, then at some point you have to realize he is just not good at his job

For me it depends on what they get for him. If its something that seems likenthe Blazers could of easily beat without giving up major pieces than I’ll be annoyed. If they get a really good package for him I’ll be more ok with it.
