Jimmy Butler wants out? (He does.)

Welcome to our community

Real life kids trapped in a cave were brought up by you. They are not funny either. That better?

Why do I have to PM you? Just be a good person and realize there are people out there with disabilities and what you say (even if not to them, ya'know perhaps they are next to you and can hear) can destroy their little hearts.

Don't flatter yourself. I'm not tracking your posts. You just happened to be the lucky one thinking tourettes was hilarious a couple weeks ago. Then making a "joke" out of dementia.

No hard feelings. I'd call out @SlyPokerCougar all the same. Or @SlyPokerDog.

Sigh...

Had you heard me say my post aloud I don't think you'd have this response...

PM me because instead of talking about Jimmy Butler we're talking about our feelings. We can do that without derailing the thread. That's all. Again, I'd always listen and be willing to delete, edit, or apologize for what I say. I'm not some asshole who needs to be lectured to. I'm capable of listening to reason. And frankly, you going on about this is kinda unreasonable. It could've been handled more simply. :dunno:

i hate to be that guy, but could someone move the OT stuff somewhere else? Preferably the OT section. The thread is about Jimmy Butler wanting traded, and I dont mean to be offensive because Dementia, kids trapped in a cave and all that is serious business but this isnt the place for it.

I disagree. I have been nothing but firm and respectful in my responses. You have to be firm when sticking up for kids with disabilities. But I digress. Back to the jimmy butler thread.

I've been tryna talk about Butler.

Jimmy Butler trade update: Wolves owner makes Butler available despite front office's reluctance, report says
One source reportedly said the Butler trade is 'just a matter of when'

One of the calling cards of any successful NBA franchise is synergy between the front office and ownership. That's the exact opposite of what's currently happening with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Jimmy Butler wants out of Minnesota, but head coach Tom Thibodeau and general manager Scott Layden have reportedly been reluctant to make a deal. On Friday, however, Wolves owner Glen Taylor apparently cleared up the situation.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Taylor told owners and executives at the NBA's Board of Governors meetings that Butler is available, and that if they're having trouble getting a hold of Thibodeau and Layden, they should contact Taylor himself. Via ESPN:

The growing disconnect between Minnesota's ownership and front office has created an impression for opposing teams that a showdown between Taylor and Tom Thibodeau, the Wolves' president of basketball operations and head coach, looms as an increasingly plausible conclusion to Butler's trade request.

"The owner's trading him," one Board of Governors attendee told ESPN on Friday. "That was made clear. It's just a matter of when."

"He basically said, 'If you don't get anywhere with [Layden], and you've got something good, bring it to me," another high-ranking league official told ESPN.

Taylor's point of view is understandable. He's trying to put a winning product on the floor after his team ended a 13-season playoff drought last year, and the last thing he wants is a malcontent who doesn't want to be there. The longer the team waits to make a deal, the higher the risk that teams back off and simply wait for Butler to become a free agent next summer. So Taylor appears to want to make sure they at least get something for their All-NBA wing.

This isn't a good look for the Wolves' organization -- at times like this you want to either stay completely quiet (like the Spurs did after the Kawhi Leonard trade request) or present a united front. The Timberwolves are doing neither, and it only makes them look more desperate and confused to potential trade partners.

Taylor has been around for trades involving franchise superstars Kevin Garnett and Kevin Love, and it appears he's ready to do what it takes to unload Butler as well.

So I was reading that Minnesota’s owner is going to step in and get something done sooner rather than later even if it means Thibs doesnt stick around.
I wonder if we could get them to bite on a package of ET, Harkless or Aminu and a future 1st?

Kids don't have dementia do they? Really???

I know and I wasnt trying to say it was on you or anything.

Anyways I was just reading that and some other articles. I wonder if Taylor looks at some of thibs moves and thinks why are we recreating the 2010 bulls for this guy? lol

Man I go to work and come back to some weird conversations.
I'm going to choose to not read posts previous to mine if I already haven't.

So Jimmy Butler trade huh.

I agree I want to add to CJ, Lillard, Nurk & Curry.

While I wouldnt want to give up CJ or Collins, especially if it turns out to be a one year rental. I would at least gain a little bit of respect for NO in actually just going for it, for once...

I’d have no issue trading CJ for Butler. Even if we eventually lose both butler and CJ. We’d have money to chase Cousins (pretty much the only significant FA that would consider Portland imo) and I’m confident at least one of Trent and Simons would be a quality replacement.

But I just can’t see Minny wanting CJ. If I’m wrong, Olshey should be all over it, that doofus.

Yeah dog, you're trippin lol.

No one comes back good from an Achilles injury.

Cousins is probably gonna be a shell of himself when he comes back.

The key word is "respectful". If everyone could be respectful of others' opinions even if they disagree, this would be a more pleasant place to post.

MIN Gets: C.J. McCollum, Evan Turner, 2019 POR 1st
BKN Gets: Taj Gibson, Future POR 2nd
POR Gets: Jimmy Butler, DeMarre Carroll, Justin Patton

We get 2-4 switchability between Butler, Carroll, Harkless, and Aminu.

Lillard (36) / Curry (12) / Baldwin
Butler (30) / Curry (18) / Trent
Harkless (18) / Carroll (24) / Butler (6)
Aminu (30) / Harkless (10) / Collins (8)
Nurkic (30) / Collins (18) / Leonard

We had this discussion man, and I had you thinkin' straight and now your back to thinking an Achilles tear applies to Cousins like it does to other NBA players...

Man he's gonna lose all his quickness. That's a big part of his game.

You "had me thinkin straight" huh?

I must be capable of listening to new info and using said info to reform my viewpoints.

Tbh I forgot what we talked about. Was this a conversation we had in person? I don't remember... What did you say?

Since the Wolves' owner has said come to him if you can't make a deal with Scott Layden; will Olshey have the verve to do that or will he think this would be dis-respectful to another GM?

Now I LIKE this deal...

But why does BK do it? I thought they liked Carroll.

Yes, it was. You were swayed. Dude doesn't rely on athleticism to get buckets. He's not particularly quick like you think. He uses his strength and weight very well. He's not gonna lose that.

We’ll see. The answer will be there before he hits free agency.

Why does Brooklyn do anything? If there’s a team that sticks out as being in over their heads it’s them.
I dunno the Knicks and Orlando... heck half of the eastern conference seems to be in a competition all their own called who can have the worst basketball team :)

Now I LIKE this deal...

But why does BK do it? I thought they liked Carroll.
They have a lot of wings. Crabbe, LeVert, RJH, Harris, Musa, etc. As well as 3 PGs in Russell, Dinwiddie, and Napier. I know they play Carroll a lot at PF, but Gibson is probably better there. Both are expiring contracts worth around $15M. Along with a 2nd round pick or two, I think they'd make that swap.

You dont worry about possible perceptions when pursuing an all-star.

It's not like being in the good graces of others has helped Olshey accomplish anything anyway.

Oh, I personally wouldn't be worried; I'm worried about Olshey. He seems to be a guy concerned with maintaining good relationships with others in the league.

Sorry, but I disagree. Dame is 28 years old. If the Blazers traded for Butler he still isn’t the missing piece for contention. They’d still need a dependable starting SF and they would need Nurk and Collins to step up their contributions dramatically. They would have no clear path to the SF they need. Given that, the likelihood of Butler walking after one year is high. How do you build a contender from that point if you’ve essentially given CJ’s trade value away for one year of Butler? If FAs won’t come here with CJ, they sure aren’t coming if Dame is the lone star.

I think the Blazers know that the Lillard/CJ window is about three years. If they don’t get to contention by then I’d expect we’d see Dame and CJ traded for picks and ending contracts and the Blazers would go all-in on rebuilding around the young guys they already have: Nurk, Collins, Trent and Simons.

Play Butler at SF and hope one of Simons/Trent Jr. develop into our SG of the future. We have better prospects at SG than we do at SF

We're counting on Collins and Nurk improving whether we make the trade, or not. So, that part is irrelevant.

BNM
