Jimmy Butler wants out? (He does.)

Dame, Sauce, Butler, Collins, and Nurkic.

Backed up by Curry, Turner, Harkless, Aminu, Swanigan?

If we trade CJ and keep Aminu and Turner, Harkless should start at the 3.

Dame, Butler, Harkless, Aminu, Nurk.

Curry, SAUCE, ET, Biggie, Collins

Having Butler, Hark, and Aminu in the starting lineup gives us a level of switchability (just made that one up) we've never had.

Minnesota
(a) are already among the worst defending teams in the league, so why would they replace Butler with CJ?
(b) already have a short scoring guard, who just dropped a career high 50 points last night.

I don't think CJ is the guy they're after. I think they'd be more interested in Josh Richardson (currently averaging 19.1 ppg) and they already turned down him plus a pick.

What he's doing is not prima Donna. He's basically calling people out and not caring who.

He's not whining at all.

I don't think I ever said he was whining. But he does have some "prima donna" tendencies in him: (and by no means am I implying he is not good, but still his act is over the top)

PRIMA DONNA
a very temperamental person with an inflated view of their own talent or importance.
synonyms: ego, self-important person, his nibs, temperamental person, princess, diva, pooh-bah;
informaldrama queen

I was kind of with him until the whole Rachel Nichols thing.
He seriously brought in ESPN to try to humiliate guys he wasnt with all summer to act like they arent working as hard as he thinks they should be. Thats not leadership to me.
Im with him about guys need to play hard, and work hard and all that. He obviously hasnt been a guy who inspires others to play for him.

I may be wrong but I think Blazer players play hard for Dame, they love Dame, he leads them on and off the court and inspires them to play better.

Can Butler co-exist with anyone? But your question is legit. It would work if Butler liked and respected Dame and let him lead the team off the court. Because although a good player Butler seems like a pathetic leader off the court. Doesn't mean the Blazers can't have two alphas on the court. But Butler will need to "grow" and adjust his Prima Donna attitude no matter where he goes, because his act ain't working with his teammates.
Butler relinquishing control would never happen. They would clash.

Prima Donna - a very temperamental person with an inflated view of their own talent or importance.

Fits Butler to a T.

I didn't see your post haha..

Jimmy embracing "Fake News"...
Butler scored 21 points in 35 minutes in Friday's loss, but the issues regarding his future continue to hover over everything the Timberwolves do. He chafed during a back-and-forth when a reporter acknowledged that his injury status wouldn't be as much of a concern if his trade demand wasn't already public. The difference for Butler is that the demand is public, and he has made a career out of trying to play through injuries; sitting out games for precautionary rest or soreness is a sharp contrast from what he has done in the past.
"I know it's true," Butler said when the reporter acknowledged the trade demand factored into concern over his injury status. "So stop asking me questions about if I'm going to sit out or not. If I'm going to sit out, you probably won't talk to me on the day I sit out; but if I do, then I do and you can create a story around it with a lot of made-up stuff like y'all normally do."

Whoever is going to game tomorrow, please make “come to Portland Jimmy” sign

Switchability is a real term haha.

Smh. As if that would do anything. As if he controls where he goes. He doesn't care about his teammates, why would he care about a sign in the stands?

Butler don't like soft guys like KAT or Wiggins. Dame isn't soft. Dame is 1st team NBA. Dame has good relationship with Jimmy off the court. Just make offer for Jimmy ffs

"Jim-my But-ler" (clap...clap...clap-clap-clap)
"Jim-my But-ler" (clap...clap...clap-clap-clap)

That would make for good theater no matter how much some stick-in-the-mud's may think it makes no difference. It would still be fun! :smiley-beerchug:

I don't get why are people against this possible trade? Do you want exit in 1st round again? Or 2nd, it's the same honestly. With Jimmy, at least, we can compete for WCF.

If it's a trade where we keep CJ then yes that's WCF esque. If we lose CJ in the deal I beg to differ.

I would trade CJ for him now. I got a feeling we could compensate for CJ leaving by plugging in one of our good bench shooters (Stauskas, Curry) but the improvement at small forward from Butler acquisition would be just amazing.

Here's why I think it is a win:
  • Blazers are better with Butler just from a defensive standpoint and it's not like Butler can't score
  • It gives the Blazers a real shot to be a contender...which I don't believe they are now
  • Even if Butler were to leave, the Blazers save almost $30M on the cap and with CJ, it's not like they were knocking on the Finals door
  • If Anfernee is going to be the star Dame things, it allows him a back up role at times

Doubt it happens with ownership the way it is now, but I think it is worth the chance and if it doesn't work out, Portland isn't any worse off than they have been when they've been getting swept in the 1st round.

At some point you need to take a risk. Toronto have done it with Kawhi and our move would be just the equivalent, Butler’s impact here could be really significant and if we don’t make that move we are basically stuck being a good but not great team.

Besides, competitiveness of Lillard and Butler would be unmatched in the league. They are two proper alphas who are desperate to win. Butler’s defense is also elite and we are starving for an elite defender.

Between Stauskas, Curry, Trent and Simons we have multiple players to plug into CJ role and develop.

Of course there is no guarantee we become great but I think it is worth the shot. Also, if we trust Dame to be the leader we all think he is, he can get the best out of Butler.

With Butler at SF (or maybe you go big and play him at SG and leave Harkless/Layman at SG, I think what Sauce, Curry, Trent, Simons add to what Butler brings would MORE than make up for CJ's absence.

It remains to be seen if Kawhi move was a good move. If they don’t win the title and he walks, they are lotto team next year with no hope in sight.

Giving an asset like CJ away for a one year rental is stupid IMO.

I would much rather have CJ on the team than the money we'd have if he wasn't.

People need to stop acting like losing CJ for cap space is a good move.

It's asinine.
