Joe Cronin appreciation thread

This draft isn’t guard heavy. I think we will very likely come away with our SF or PF of the future this summer.
Which is why we can afford to play it out right now with what we have. There is no reason to force a trade of our vets, or Ant just for the sake of fit at this point, unless someone makes a ridiculous offer.

I also think it’s good to go give our young guys a competitive environment. If we get smashed every night, that’s not good for anyone.

Brogdon is 30 years old, a 6'5" guard who doesn't rely on athleticism but does use his size well.

Lebron is 38 years old and does rely on his athleticism.

Brogdon has already shown how valuable he can be with his size, scoring, playmaking, and ball handling ability just 6 games into the season.

He executes at the maximum level his skill set and body will produce. A true NBA professional.

I’m dreaming of this roster heading into 2023-24:

Scoot/Shae/Matas Buzelis/Camara/DA

Young guys: Bobi Klintman, Walker, Murray, Rupert, Baba Miller

Vets: Ant (?), Williams, Grant/Brogdon filler

Obviously, if Ant proves he’s here to stay, you could move Shae to SF and Buzelis could start his career off the bench. Doesn’t matter. If Schmitz works his magic and Cronin keeps bringing in valuable vets while he capitalizes on Grant/Thybulle/Brogdon and accumulates assets.

We’re in an amazing spot right now. Shae is showing a near star-level leap right now, and DA is proving be’s a long term piece here. That’s already a huge relief. Plus, the Bucks will probably continue to look subpar defensively until at least the deadline, so good signs for those future picks so far. We really need 1, maybe 2 young wing prospects. As long as we cycle in good vets to help develop the young guys that Schmitz keeps drafting, we will be golden very very soon. We could probably get to the playoffs before teams like Detroit and Utah and Charlotte.

i wanted keegan and hr prettu good too but i'm happy with shae
I’ll admit I wanted Keegan. Especially if Dame was staying, which he did last season. But now that Dame is gone I see Sharpe as a far more important player in Portland. He has star potential. Keegan is gonna have a great career and be a borderline all star most likely. Will be rooting for him.

Completely agree. We have four of our starting five of the future all 25 and under. Just need a power forward. I hope we trade Simons for a PF.
Pump the breaks there. I can buy 3 out of 5, but not 4

If Scoot , Simons , and Sharpe is not a defensive atrocity that could be the 1-2-3.

And then, who knows, Camara might be the perfect player at the 4. He's 6'8" with a 7-foot wingspan and a 8'11" standing reach.

We could have all 5 out of 5.

I don't think that's the case, but it's possible, especially seeing the vets the Blazers have on the bench like Robert Williams.

I’m just not gonna be happy with Sharpe playing small forward. Period. He plays so well at shooting guard.

Well, even if Scoot, Simons, Sharpe start a game it doesn't mean they have to play most of it together or finish it together.
Scoot will probably be a liability in crunch time until he can shoot better, and should not be finishing close games.
And it depends a lot on their collective defense.

...is too early to coin the "JoeCro-slapped" catchphrase when describing what all the losing teams got from this off-season of moves!? :dunno:

He needs to consistently hit the three. If he could be a 40% three point shooter, you can start him.
Yes I'm obviously expecting our players to progress. If you want to assume Scoot and Camara are exactly the same in 3 years as they are now, then clearly they aren't the players of the future at that position, but I'm not talking about them being that guy this year, I'm talking about them both being good in 2-3 years.

I like Joe, like what he has done in his short tenure and trust his staff to find talent and buld a decent roster. We've had Rolo, Roco and now we have JoCro!

Consider that Joe made two incredible trades from the Lillard fiasco, but did not when Vulcan instructed him to purge the flopsom off the roster. Flopsom has no value, so he couldn't get jack squat back. I think he did great, all things considered. What he sent out did not hold value, hence he didn't get anything back of value. Now you big time Ant fans be warned. Unless Ant increases his defensive ability Portland will be lucky to get an expiring and a protected first. I hope I'm wrong, but other teams are looking at Ant as the odd man out with the meteoric rise of Sharpe.

Simons could be plenty valuable at the deadline. Especially for a team looking for another weapon.

Yes I think we get a 1st AND a young prospect, possibly even two 1sts. Simons is still very young and has lots of upside and elite talent in a skill nearly every team needs, 3pt shooting. Plus he can create off the bounce. He has a ton of value, and his contract looks better by the minute with the upcoming TV deal and what players are already demanding.

Simons for Markkanen. Thanks

Scoot / Brogdon
Sharpe / Thybulle
Grant / Camara
Markkanen / Walker
Ayton / Timelord
