Who has handled this the right way so far?

I go with Joe all day long. His only comment since this trade stuff has basically been "Dame has notified that he wants out, we want Dame to be here and we are going to do what's best for the Portland Trailblazers"

Whether coach speak or not, it's sweet and simple. No mudslinging and to the point. Since them we have all of these leaks from Dames camp, whether directly from him or not that are trying to pit the world against the Blazers.

If this ends up happening and all parties end up happy, this will set a precedent. Joe could turn a big corner as a GM and this franchise can absolutely take a resounding step forward. Just think, it could all be due to Dame and not being a part of the team.

I don't know what the end result will be and will probably get shit from the board police but wanted a clean thread just on the topic in the subject line.

I’m Team Joe. Dame has been classless throughout this whole ordeal. I’m so disappointed in him. I enjoyed watching him play basketball and I thought he was different. Nope. Just out for himself in the end. Does he even give a shit about us fans?

Team Joe as well. Dame's true colors appear to be coming through (not pretty), he and his "team" are handling this badly. I have several adjectives I'd could easily add but I'll take the Cronin approach.

"The Cronin Approach" that's catchy. Could be on to something there depending on how this shitstorm finishes up

Dame trying to put pressure on the team with the "Miami or else" ultimatums his camp keeps leaking is objectively a bitch move. So I think Team Joe is clearly handling it more professionally so far.

And whether we like it or not, Team Joe is Team Portland at this point so we have no choice but to be on his side here. I couldn't really care less if Dame gets to go where he wants if it means us building a better future.

I think they're both handling this the right way for them... until we hear a report that says that Dame's agent told a team that he wouldn't report and that's why a reported trade fell apart, I think Dame is just trying to leverage his way to the place he wants to be. Joe is standing his ground. Both are acting in their best interests as you should in a business deal.

The OP is incorrect because Joe has released a lot of stuff besides the official press release. Joe has said all options are on the table, he definitely has Woj carrying water for him as well. Dame at the same time has not made any public statement but does have a lot more people carrying water for him. It is hard to tell how many people are carrying water for Dame and how many of those got their marching orders from Riley but definitely more "Dame only to the Heat" propaganda than "Portland has the power in this situation" propaganda.

So if propaganda turns you off then Dame is losing but I would say it is hard to delineate Dame's camp's propaganda and that coming from the Heat and it's obvious when it's coming from our team... and while it's not close to Dame plus the Heat there is still a lot of shit coming out of our team and there should be.

Yeah, isn't it ironic he signs that huge 2 yr extension a year ago, can't be traded until July 10, and just days ago the I want out talk happens - I SEE YOU DAME

That's what I have been wondering about....

He also started his campaign to put Joe in a corner almost immediately after the season ended and even joked about where he'd want to go. It kinda feels like he set Joe up to fail and then put himself into a position to ask out without looking like the bad guy.

Let's not pretend like we didn't use every pick we had in that draft on rookies, the highest one on a PG after Dame said going young is not the way he is going. If Joe would have pulled one all star in via trade, Dame wouldn't have asked out... plain and simple. He could have asked out at any point in the last five years that the national media has been saying he should but he didn't. Trying to boil it down to him just trying to get paid and bouncing is silly.

I wish Joe was more aggressive. Play Riley through the media - make it abundantly clear that they simply don’t have the assets.

Miami pundits have totally shaped the narrative that Dame to Miami is a lock.

I am with Joe for the most part. I think he did the best he could to find Dame some vet pieces to grant his wishes if you will for a more veteran team, but he was not going to let us get ripped off then and that will be the same, now. I don't wish ill on Dame of course but the sooner he is gone the better for us honest tbh; we can then start focusing on who will actually lace them up for us this season.

Yeah, it sucks to say it but I can't wait for Dame to be on another team.

Dame Dolly every day of the week!
I mean the question is framed in a weird way but ask yourself who has done more for this team and it's a pretty easy answer. Now if Scoot and Shae end up leading us to a championship then the whole thing gets flipped but so far Joe has said one thing and done another a few times and Dame was pretty damn consistent for over a decade. I guess people have short memories and fragile hearts.

Dame has done his part for Portland....and more. Cronin stepped into a pile of shit financially, and has done his part. There is no VS to me, just unfortunate timing and circumstances.

I hope Dame goes to a team that he wants, and gets a shot at a ring.
I hope Cronin builds a deep playoff team here in Portland.

The question isn't about who won, it's about who has handled this situation better.

And it's Joe.
What does "handle it better" mean?

I saw it as:
- Public relations
- Getting what they want

That's why I answered it as I did.

What makes me laugh are people saying OMG, Joe is a liar, he hasn't been honest!

That's executives/management for you. Things change. Situations change. At the time something was said it could have been the path. Then something else happens (like winning the 3rd pick). You can't take less just to appease someone that honestly might have already given hints they wanted to leave.

Its hard to trust people too. Dame totally could have told someone he was thinking of leaving and they ran to someone in management to tell them.

It is a divorce. Shit happens. The team is going the right path toward having any chance of building an actual winner. Could they fail? Absolutely! But we have sucked for 4 years now.

Fuck it.

This is what I heard from a very good source...

The meeting with Cronin, Dame and his agent Joe talked about multiple trades and deals they were working on. Some really big ones that would move the needle and make the Blazers contenders. But when Dame's agent called those teams and asked the teams about those proposals those teams had already turned the Blazers down.

Dame and his agent know deals get talked about and nothing ever happens but Dame and his agent got frustrated because Joe was talking about possible deals that he was working on that in fact were never going to happen.

the Blazers aren't going to throw away all this free advertising by trading Dame right away. We got the word Portland Trailblazers and the team logo pouring out of multiple channels daily.

Let's not pretend dame wasn't part of the decisions that got Portland in the place they are. I am sure that if he was frank about CJ to NeO, we might have handled that bit better before, but he put friends over team before.

It feels like once NeO was out and Joe didn't succumb to everything dame wanted (keeping Shae for example) it started to change.

The blazers did good to dame just like he did for them, but once he decided to go Dame first for the trade, the blazers should go team first

I could totally see Cronin just not being able to read people very well. People skills and negotiation don't seem to be his strong suit. Doesn't mean he is a liar. Could he be a liar? Sure, but sometimes management are told to do shit and they do it because if they don't, they could get fired.

I don't think that's true anymore. I think you're seeing more and more national talking heads saying this makes Dame's brand look pretty bad and the Blazers wouldn't be doing their team, their current players or their fans right to accept less than was reasonable for a guy that not only is leaving but is giving you ultimatums on his way out the door.

Is Joe the guy who walks around with a clip board trying to look busy?
