Joe the plumber, who McCain kept talking about during the debate, doesn't actually have a plumbing license. So now McCain's ruined the guy's life, more than Obama's taxes would in the future.

That's a shame. :dunno:

You do know that you can work as a plumber if your boss has his license, right? Or are you just in the mood to talk completely out of your ass?

But apparently that's not the only thing the guy is a fraud for. He would actually be HELPED by Obama's tax plan.

Joe the Plumber is not exactly a plumber, he's "not even close" to making the kind of money that would result in higher taxes from Democrat Barack Obama's proposals and has such an aversion to taxes that a lien was filed against him by the state of Ohio.

Such is the whirlwind of information that has come out about Joe Wurzelbacher of Holland, Ohio, since Republican John McCain made him famous in last night's debate. McCain mentioned him more than 20 times to use him as a symbol of hard-working Americans who would be hurt by Obama's tax policies. Obama and Wurzelbacher met earlier in the week in Toledo, where Wurzelbacher said Obama's plans to raise taxes on those making $250,000 a year or more would penalize him in his plans to buy the plumbing business for which he works.

Wurzelbacher since then has been on Fox News, interviewed by CBS's Katie Couric and appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America."

Not all the attention has been welcomed. Wurzelbacher, 34, told the Associated Press that he was not a licensed plumber. Because he works for a small company that does residential work, he said, he doesn't need to be licensed.

Wurzelbacher, whose legal name is Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher, owes the state of Ohio $1,182 in personal income taxes, according to tax records that show a lien for that amount filed against him in January 2007.

Wurzelbacher said he is of modest means, but worried Obama's tax plans would eventually hurt him. "You see my house. I don't have a lot of bells and whistles in here, really. My truck's a couple of years old and I'm going to have it for the next 10 years probably. So I don't see [Obama] helping me out,'' he told reporters this morning.

He also sounded concerned about the attention he is receiving. "I'm completely flabbergasted with this whole thing and just hope I'm not making too much of a fool of myself and hope I can get my message out there," he said.

Oh snaps!

When Barack Obama and Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher (aka Joe The Plumber) met recently in Ohio, the two got to talking about small businesses. Wurzelbacher told the senator he's a "plumber" and he's looking to buy a company. Obama asked how long he'd been a plumber. "Fifteen years," Wurzelbacher replied.

Oh, really?

Wurzelbacher registered as an apprentice with the Ohio State Apprenticeship Council in November 2003, according to Dennis Evans, spokesman with the Department of Job and Family Services. Records show his training, which was sponsored by A & W Newell Co. of Toledo, should have been wrapped last year.

"We don't have a record of completion," Evans said. "All we know is that he registered in the program and has gone through to the point where we should have record of completion, but we don't."

And that's not the only record that's missing from Wurzelbacher's file. He doesn't have a plumbing license required by the city of Toledo to practice, according to a staffer with the Toledo Division of Building Inspection. Wurzelbacher, who now works for Newell Plumbing & Heating Co., said the owner, Al Newell, has a plumbing license and that "because he works for someone else, he doesn't need a license."

But even that's not true, according to the Toledo Division of Building Inspection. Wurzelbacher can't legally do plumbing work without a license, regardless of his boss's certification.

A staff person with the Toledo Division of Building Inspection told On Call this afternoon that her division will contact Wurzelbacher to notify him that he can't work without a license.

"We're trying to track him down," she said.

In the meantime, the Democrat-friendly local plumbers' union is fuming.

"He has no license whatsoever with the city of Toledo," said Tom Joseph, the business manager for Local Union 50 of the Plumbers, Steamfitters and Service Mechanics, which has endorsed Obama. "He has no license in the state of Ohio. He has no contractor's license in the state of Ohio. He is not a plumber. He works for a plumber."

What about Wurzelbacher's claim that he is "gettin' ready to buy a company that makes about two hundred and fifty, two hundred and seventy, two hundred and eighty thousand dollars a year" ... ? Wurzelbacher told reporters that when he was hired by Newell six years ago "the possibility of him eventually buying the company was discussed during his job interview."

According to Joseph, Newell Plumbing & Heating is far from a $250K-a-year operation. Newell is running "a two-man shop," he said. "This is not a thriving business."

Isn't there a chance it could be worth $250K? "Oh, God no," Joseph said. "Maybe if he sells him the house, the garage." He explained that the address for the business "is where the man lives at."

"The real Joe Plumbers are for Barack," Joseph added.

sloth, does any of that really matter? do you have a point with all of this?

Attack a hard-working citizen who dared to question Obama.

An interesting tactic by the Dems, especially in a swing-state like Ohio.

I can't say I understand this line of attack. The guy works for a plumber, wants his own license, and wants to start a business. Seems like the American dream; instead, he is being attacked.

Odd because there are millions of people just like him who have a decision to make over the next few weeks.

How much do plumbers charge? I think the lower ones charge maybe $90 an hour? He'd have to charge $120 an hour (not unreasonable in many cases) x 40 x 52 to get up to $250k. Of course, with apprentices, he can make much more.

Yes, but all of your costs of running the business are subtracted and you are only taxed on your profits. So he'd have to do a lot more than that to be taxed for 250 thousand.

Straight out of Rules for Radicals:

“RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)”

The Alinsky Model worked to perfection.

Joe the Plumber is being more vigorously vetted by the media than Barack Obama.

I actually know more about Joe the Plumber's history after one day than I know about Obama.

God Bless Amurrrrica.

The guy is a McCain supporter, who Obama had no problem discussing policy with, who lied, lied, lied, and lied some more. He lied about being in a position to buy a business that would be making 250K a year. He lied about being an independent (he voted for McCain in the GOP primary). The guy already doesn't pay his taxes, so what would more taxes actually mean to him? (even though he would get a tax cut with Obama's plan). The guy is breaking the law by plumbing without a plumbing license.

This guy was talked about more than George W. Bush during last nights debate. McCain's entire economic policy is based around this guy. Thi is quite significant that this guy turned out to be a complete sham.

This isn't about taxes, if you watch the guys' interview, he is talking about how Obama isn't proud of this country. This guy has other problems with Obama, not with Obama's policies

I don't care who he supports. It's Obama's answer that has the leftist media in a panic, so now they have to smear the guy who allowed us all to see an honest moment from Obama.

Joe the Plumber is irrelevant, but making him the villian is a BAD idea by the Dems and their media. This could flip the election; they should just let it die.

I doubt Obama is going to say anything about "Joe the Plumber." The hard-right belief that the media is simply an extension of the Democratic party is not shared by the mainstream, so I seriously doubt articles about whether he lied are going to have any effect on the election.

This could flip the election

Good luck with that.

Thank you for speaking for the mainstream.

Hubris, we know thee as Minstrel.

Conspiracy theories don't tend to characterize the mainstream. But you are welcome, as always.

Hubris, we know thee as Minstrel.

No hubris here. I'm simply wonderful in all respects and I shall never receive my comeuppance. Do you hear me, gods? No comeuppance, me!

Conspiracy theories don't tend to characterize the mainstream. But you are welcome, as always.

The major media is tilted to the left. It is not a conspiracy.

Hell, Joe the Plumber has been better vetted in one day than Obama has in 20 months by the same media. The fact the media is attacking the guy is a pretty big clue. LOL

Same joke used twice in the same thread? You're better than that.

The major media is tilted to the left. It is not a conspiracy.

Unsupported. Studies on media tilt tend to be inconclusive. I've seen people quote studies that show more positive coverage to the right and studies that show more positive coverage to the left.

I would say that the reporter-level of the media is tilted to the Democrats (so, the left), and the owner-level of the media, and therefore the guiding vision of the outlets they own, is tilted towards capitalism (over socialism, and thus to the right).

The fact the media is attacking the guy is a pretty big clue.

Nice circular logic.

The media is attacking "Joe the Plumber" because they're biased to the left.
How do we know they're biased to the left? Because they're attacking "Joe the Plumber!"

Obama could tell the whole plumbing industry to jump off a cliff before he taxes the hell out of them . . . and he will still win this election.

Want to wager on that? I've seen some internals the past few days...

Well I don't know if I can get Obama to tell the plumbing industry to jump off a cliff, but if you're talking about who will win the election . . . name your price.

I don't know what internals are, so you probably have a sucker on your hands, but I can't see how McCain is going to win this election . . . the Palin pick was a huge gamble that lost and killed any chance he had of winning, IMO.

So what should we bet . . . courtside tickets. : )

No, because I'm not that confident. I just know it isn't the blow-out that has been reported lately, and with ACORN being sued in 15 states and their registrations now being scrutinized, I believe it is a dead heat. And "my friends" tell me I am correct.

So 50/50 for courtside seats? Nope. 50/50 on something more reasonable? Sure. So what is reasonable?

I don't know. We could do a six pack or $20.00 or a bottle of good wine . . . but it almost seems more trouble than it is worth. We could do a signature and avatars and things like that but I don't want to have to put up some political signature in this forum.

So I say we make it a gentleman's bet . . . or more noted, you are calling out the longshot to win. I'll give you that it might be closer than the media makes it out to be, but Obama has this thing locked up. We'll see shortly.

Before then, if you want to do that courtside thing . . . we make the terms loser buys tickets winner buys beers . . . it will be an excuse to finally pony up and get courtside seats.

I think the tilt of the media is a matter of personal perception, possibly influenced by which of the viewer's legs is the longest.:dunno:
