Good question. If I had to guess I would say he wanted to be more family orientated and local. We've all taken on things where we didn't perform as we had expected and hoped - and we know how crappy that can feel - but, multiply that feeling with heartless fans that forget you're an actual human being and I think he was just ready to take his skills to broadcasting.

The QB is the most important position. I imagine that if Joey Harrington was the starter then the backup must've been some kind of manure. It's no joke that manure doesn't win football games.

my recollection is that their O-Line was shit and that their GM Matt Millan kept using their top picks on WRs much to the dismay of Lions fans. Joey wasn't the most fleet of foot and was harassed/sacked constantly.

Exactly. I watched all of his rookie season and Joey wasn't the problem. He did everything he could, but he had zero running game, no line, and a bunch of rookies and scrubs for WRs.

Joey didn't have help. Billy Shroeder & Az Hakim were his #1 and #2 targets his rookie year. He always did what the coaches asked of him. He became Joey Checkdown once Mooch got a hold of him. Mooch was one of the most spineless, gutless, & conservative coaches I've ever seen....until I saw Moronelli. But Joey never had a chance in Detroit due to the circumstances, but also because he's not an NFL caliber QB. Great QBs raise the level of play of everybody around him. Joey was erratic & inaccurate his entire NFL career. It didn't matter who was around him. I watched every Lions game and I couldn't count how many times he threw passes at WRs' ankles on a 5 yard crossing route. He lacked zero touch and threw one of the most uncatchable balls in the entire league, right up their with Mike Vick. There's a reason why Joey didn't catch on anywhere else. He wouldn't have even made a decent game manager because he had a hard time throwing with any touch.
