Jordan Kent out, Calabro in talks to come back

Does he actually or is this just speculation?
He's attended one game since he left Minnesota....and if you've heard Brandon talk, he's not a public speaker by any stretch of the imagination. Lamar Hurd has skills in my view.

I was glad when Calabro left. I didn't think highly of him at all, although he probably got tainted by Lamar Hurd a bit in my preferences. I didn't know what to think when Kent was hired, but game 1 it became apparent he was going to be an issue

IMO, Calabro & Hurd were a downgrade from Mike & Mike

I liked Mike & Mike, but a lot of people around here hated them because they were such total homers. When viewed in a small market NBA universe where we've been subjected in the past to Pete Pranica, Pat Laugh-at-me, and Eddie Doucette, I just can't get worked up over Calabro and Hurd.

been reported that the team has reached out multiple times to bring him, at least to a game, and he's not interested.
Paul Allen offered Brandon a job with the organization when he medically retired, then he refused and signed a two year deal with the Wolves...that broke him and he came to one game right after retiring and never returned.....I don't see BRoy as a guy who has any loyalty to the franchise at all.
He grew up a Sonics fan

and a Huskie!

If your job is to do color commentary for a game you should at least be prepared enough to pronounce players names properly.....Rice has an incredible BBIQ but he was not a great color guy....he would have been better suited to a talkin' ball or courtside job, etc....toward the end he was slipping even worse with names....he always called Gasol....Kuh Saul.......example....I loved to hear Rice interviewed though by Casey or someone...he knew his hoops. Really glad I got to meet him and talk to him. Seems like a great guy.

Yep. MB should be there. Why don't they kiss his ass and beg him to come back.

Seattle fans don't care about the Blazers. They do not like the team. It is not the same as the Seahawks because we have never had a NFL team.

Yeah, I do miss MB. He was good. Not sure what happened there...
Wheels has a great interview with the Mike's.....Barrett said he hasn't really paid any attention to basketball since....he's steerheading the major league baseball project for Portland now...I think he's more interested in seeing that through than bailing out the team that fired him...Rice was cool with it but Barrett sounds like he's still salty about getting fired

I don't blame him.

I think that's a personal opinion, not necessarily a fact. Here's a Seattle Times article from five years ago that indicates that there is considerable interest in the Blazers in Seattle. At the time, 13% of single-game ticket sales at Moda were to people from Seattle. If you're willing to drive three hours to watch an NBA game, you've got more than a passing interest in the sport.

no he's not

funny how opinions work

Calabro sucks...he just doesn't suck as bad as Kent

LOL...for chrissakes....so has Reggie Miller

Reggie Miller, Bill Walton, Hubie Brown, and most of the other names listed.....all color guys and not the main or only play-by-play voice like what Calabro was doing nationally. Great pipes, good energy, and thing we were lucky to have him. Of course everyone has an opinion. But at least compare him to play-by-play guys. @wizenheimer ...I'm surprised. Normally, you are much better than that with your comparisons.

A lot of Portland locals work in Seattle and are still Blazer fans....I met el presidente's brother at the meet and greet at Moda and he lives and works up there....

That means little. Of course they have NBA fans. Driving to Portland to watch a game is great, that doesn't mean they are here to watch the Blazers. I have multiple friends who grew up with the Sonics, they literally gave no shits about Calabro and still paid attention to OKC over the Blazers because of Durant.

The website thing is a better argument and interesting.

everybody I know from Seattle hates OKC with a passion for stealing their team...Portland picked up a lot of fans when the Sonics moved. There are as I mentioned...a lot of Oregonians who live in Seattle for work as well. I also know a lot of Oregonians who are Mariners and Seahawks fans...I grew up in Iowa....everyone had different teams they rooted for...we only got to see the Globetrotters when they came through the state.

Of course many seattle fans hate okc. But many loved following them and Durant because they got a taste of him for one year. Oregonians that move to seattle should love getting tk watch games. But they won't be attached to Calabro like people think seattlites are.

Would you become a Laker fan if the Blazers moved and they hired Mike Barret to announce? Lakers were on TV in Oregon now?

I'm not a Laker fan or an MB fan really....MB was ok, I don't miss him at all really...as I said, I grew up in a state with no pro sports.....I became a Blazer fan when I lived in San Diego so I don't think California has any say in my choices...I was a Bill Walton fan ...that's how I ended up a Blazer fan....used to play pickup games on the same courts in San Diego Bill was famous for playing at....one of my buddies played high school ball with him

I know Doris is color but I think she could do play by play. She's a very good basketball commentator. She's better than any of her male sidekicks Ive heard.

I get it. I'm just saying, not everyone loves Calabro from Seattle and they don't like the Blazers. We had the I-5 rivalry for a long time. You can't just kill that just because. I would never root for the Lakers even if they were shoved down my throat and they hired MB (someone I do love).

I'm sure the Blazers have picked up some fans along the way in Seattle. But I know plenty that will never root for the Blazers too. The pandering to try to get seattle viewership up is fine. Except for when they fire someone like Barrett who was Portland for Calabro. If they hire Calabro I will go back to listening to radio, watching national broadcasts when available or just losing interest like i did before. Last year I watched more games because Kent wasn't as annoying to me.

We’re trying to get the new generation who never knew the sonics

I'm judging Calabro as one of the two voices on the broadcast. Tone, inflection, emphasis, focus, humor, analysis, over-hyping....I found him lacking in all those areas. Doesn't make a difference if he's play-by-play or color
