I kind of like the Rockets for Josh Smith. Gives them a kind of a bad-ass team with many head-cases but that could potentialy have a lot of talent

To be fair it was for the league minimum. And the NBA picks up the tab for half of that salary so relatively peanuts.

In general it makes total sense; if you're not going to worry as much about Meyers's future because he didn't re-sign with you and made a silly bet on himself, you don't need to keep his trainer around either.
