I would take back 1 unprotected 1st and be happy with it. I would view that move as impactful of a trade as any Barnes trade would’ve been. Murphy would be a long term fit on this team for yeeears. It would be cheapest to extend him next summer than let him test the market, but we would have the first piece to pair with the backcourt for potentially at least the next six years. WOW.View attachment 57705
I think this is a no-brainer for the Pelicans.
For the Blazers, depends on the picks I guess. Maybe we'd just be happy with 23-year-old Trey Murphy.

We have been linked to John Collins earlier. If he comes with a pick from UTA, and some assets from MIA, it could be interesting.Unless the value of the return is 3 unprotected 1sts, I think I would be disappointed. Not sure I would like any of the young guys outside of Hendricks. Agbaji is should not be considered an asset, just filler.
Guess that wouldn’t be terrible if he comes with the 3 picks. If it doesn’t work out, he is an expiring in ‘26 when Shae’s extension will kick in.We have been linked to John Collins earlier. If he comes with a pick from UTA, and some assets from MIA, it could be interesting.

I mean if that’s the case, what are we doing? Our entire team is potential right now. Scoot is potential, Sharpe is potential, Ayton is potential.because "2 way potential" is still just potential. Most players don't live up to their potential
and remember, I was factoring in that Portland would have to take back CP3 and wouldn't get an euncumbered draft pick till 2028
How many picks? That is very "Meh" for the players going to Portland. Here is a framework that works salary-wise.
Portland: Collins, Jaime, Jovic
Utah: Herro, Highsmith
Miami: Jrue
add a few picks coming our way and i do that. Utah has a shit ton of em.Here is a framework that works salary-wise.

Miami: Jrue

That would be more than a pretty solid return, that would be an amazing return. I just don’t think we’re getting that much return from the Jazz for Herro.so this would be Herro-->Utah & Jrue-->Miami...right?
Miami would still be in the position of having to trade 1st's for Jrue, and Utah would be getting Herro for Collins+
meaning, Portland could theoretically trade Jrue for something like Collins + JJJ/Jovic + Miami 2028 (unprotected) + Miami 2030 (top-10 protected) + at least 1 first from Utah, maybe 2, and maybe a swap somewhere in 2029-2030
if you think last season was an outlier for Collins and his first 5 season are much more predictive that's a pretty solid return

You don’t want Collins? He’d slide in nicely if we move Grant at the deadline.Miami really needs a starting 4 so if they're smart this will be the deal.

Blazers get 4 unprotected picks and some expiring vets. Jazz get Tyler Herro, Heat get Holiday and can STFU about how we never helped them.

The machine knows where it's going.....Miami doesn't own either one of those picks
I'd rather get a picks and prospects right now. Collins is a pretty known commodity and I don't think we want low level starters taking up minutes from our prospects unless they are experienced winners who can show our guys how it's supposed to be done and that's not Collins. You don’t want Collins? He’d slide in nicely if we move Grant at the deadline.

For 4 1st round picks, who cares?NO TO COLLINS. Another non-rebounding big man? At least Grant can shoot.
Or just make some medium-grade trades like Denver did to improve the roster.Having a treasure chest of 1sts is going to be very valuable in the next 3-4 years. We already have a lot of guys we are banking our potential on. Unless there is a no brainer fit coming back like Trey Murphy, I’m taking back more 1sts than bringing back potential. Between Kris, Rupert, and Walker, there are plenty of forwards with potential on the team. If their potential isn’t Scoot or Shae tier potential, take the 1sts.
When we have valuable 1sts, we are able to freely trade our own 1sts with wreckless abandon because we have other 1sts that would likely be higher than any of our own.
Let’s say we are in the playoffs consistently by ‘25-‘26, how many teams are going to be able to beat a package of unprotected Blazers 1sts in ‘27/‘29/‘31 + unprotected swaps in ‘28/‘30/‘32 + maybe even another 1st + any players not names Scoot or Shae? That’s 4 total unprotected 1sts and 3 unprotected swaps. If that is the baseline of our offer, we can pretty much trade for any star available.
If taking Collins means more picks I'd be totally cool with that, I was just thinking that Miami might want Collins along with Jrue in which case I'd take an expiring instead of Collins and maybe even get Miami to cough up another pick or a couple of swaps. For 4 1st round picks, who cares?
Denver’s kind of an anomaly. Denver landed a once in a generation talent and knew how to build around of. Obviously, if Scoot and Shae prove to be that type of talent, then that’s a path to success as well. Having future 1sts just gives us more opportunities.Or just make some medium-grade trades like Denver did to improve the roster.
