Kawhi wants out of SA

I may be in the minority here but Im not sure that PG, Kawhi and LeBron would work. They seem to be similar players to me. I'm not saying they wouldnt be good but I don't think they would have the diversity to compete with the Warriors.

It's funny to me how you are on the fence on CJ being a good player. It really doesn't make sense and you can't have it both ways.

You can't, on one hand, basically say CJ sucks and name all the reasons why, then on the other hand say he's in enough to package with an unproven big and a worthless draft pick to get the best 2 way player in the NBA!

Jesus....

Bottom line: I'm watching Woj RIGHT NOW on ESPN and he says STFU LA, Kawhi is staying in San Antonio (just like @SlyPokerDog said)
Disagree. In this case he can have it both ways.

He can think CJ is ordinary while realizing others may highly value him. Which then makes complete sense to include him in the trade.

Those opinions of CJ are not mutualy exclusive

Yeah, it's just not a good fit. Honestly, of all the guards in the league other than Curry and Harden, Lillard is the best fit next to them.

Here's what I think: Leonard will be a Spur at the beginning of next season, even if just to prove to other teams that he can play. The Spurs can rightly say to him, "look, nobody's offering us jack because they're scared you're a medical disaster. Prove you're not and then we'll talk."

One thing is for certain, the best NBA fans are the ones like this guy. Keeping things completely in perspective and not overreacting to small things.

Similar yes, but exceptionally versatile. I mean, if you had five Scottie Pippens on the floor, would anyone complain about bad fit? With LeBron, Kawhi, and PG, you've got the three best 2-way players in the league, all ~6'8" and able to switch everything, equally comfortable scoring inside or outside, all very good ball handlers and distributors... The PnR would be useless against that trio.

Spurs fans have to be the most spoiled because they were literally contenders for almost 2 decades.

They're not dealing with it well. Welcome to the rest of the NBA where we're just the fodder of a couple teams. It's not fun.

The truth is that Duncan was holding that team together, not Pop, and now that he's gone they're mortal like the rest of us.

I'm anxious to see what vets will be on the block to open up space for Lebron, Leonard, Boogie and George.....it's going to be interesting.

Luol Deng will be one. He’s a vet and available for nothing but cap space.

Jerryd Bayless is another one.

I think SA will end up trading Kawhi to Boston. Woj mentioned Jaylen Brown as a piece and if I’m San Antonio that’d appeal to me more than anything the lakers could put together. Besides, not even sure the lakers would WANT to trade for Kawhi, especially if they know they could just sign him next summer. It really is the same scenario as Paul George last summer.

Not sure who I would take between Brown and Ingram. Jaylen has proven a lot more in the league so far than Ingram and he has playoffs experience but Ingram seems to have plenty of talent too.

Lakers will probably try to avoid putting Ingram in any deal though. They tanked to get him so it would be counter productive to let him go now. I think they will also try to keep Lonzo but he also doesn’t have anywhere near enough value to be included in a trade for a superstar like Kawhi as a main piece anyway.

Kuzma is an interesting piece but it ends here. Everyone else on the Lakers roster is just a filler. Their picks have no value if they get Kawhi and George, let alone if LeBron teams up with them too.

Boston, on the other hand, have three picks that aren’t even dependent on their results hence have more value. Grizzlies pick should be good, Clippers pick can’t be higher than 14th but is still reasonably valuable and Kings pick should be top 10 next year. They also have young players who have actually proven something - I doubt Tatum will ever be included in any deal though as he has more value than anybody in this league, pretty much. Rozier and Brown are good/great pieces though.

Philadelphia have as good assets to put on the table as Boston though, IMO. Their two picks this year, Saric, Covington and Fultz all have value. Some combination of these should definitely at least have SA thinking.

Minnesota has pieces they could trade for Leonard...Butler and Townes

Wouldn’t need to send both. Butler + no. 20 would be enough if Butler was willing to re-sign, he’s a legit star even if not Kawhi level.

Thibs will never let Butler go though, so Towns is more realistic as a trade piece. Spurs would take it too.

Kawhi ain't going to turn down a supermax deal. This is all just noise by his agent so the Spurs don't try to offer him less due to his injury.

He will be a Spur next season.
I was gonna reply to this yesterday but had to find the tweet.

I mean kawhi could very well stay in San Antonio. They could try to repair it with the time they have left and they also don’t have to trade kawhi, he has a year left on his deal. I don’t think teams want to keep an unhappy player though, especially the spurs who are known for their organization. A deal could happen on draft night considering the teams offering their high picks. Who knows though

The NBA needs to make it so you can only have two max contracts on the payroll at once.

Or raise the cap, have a max contract be 40% of the cap, and have a hard cap be 120%.

I think a change might be coming.
It was mentioned in one of Zach Lowe's recent podcast that Silver said something along the lines of: "If you don't like the current situation (super teams) ,then you should support a hard cap".

I'm probably messing up the quote a bit, but it almost sounded as if he's going to try campaigning for it in the future and he want to start the buzz\support for this issue.

When it does I’m done. I refuse to watch the nba when the 3 best teams are the 3 teams I hate most ever in the Warriors, Rockets, and Lakers.

Axis of Evil!

Please, please, please NOT Bayless. He makes CJ look like an assist wizard. Bayless is one of the most selfish players I have EVER watched in the pros.......

I’ll take Bayless if he comes with a first.

But I got my hopes up for Faried/14. I’m sure it’ll happen....

I'd like to see a hard cap.
I'd also like to see contracts be only partially guaranteed.

Fully guarantee contracts less than the minimum & only 1/2 of everything more than that

Meh. He's not that clever.

Cool story. That's never going to happen. Players union will never agree to that. I wouldn't either.
