They need to meet a minimum salary threshold, while acquiring future assets and at the same time tanking.

ET and Meyers would fit the bill perfectly. And when their contracts become expiring they would be attractive to deal.

They have $106M in active salaries--they're well above the salary floor. And even if they were below, you honestly think they'd rather pay ET & Meyers for two years rather than just pay the penalty?

Yes

I hope Neil doesn’t completely fuck us with a Collins/ET/1st for Love:(

I think Love winding up in LA makes some sense. Maybe a sign and trade for Randle or a combination of Deng/Randle for Love and spare parts. With the handful of 1 year contracts they handed out today, it appears LA is trying to keep as much cap space as possible for Leonard next off-season, but I can't see James agreeing to that strategy and conceding a year in his prime. Love gives them a fighters chance by filling a need and giving James some on-court familiarity. The Lakers could still chase Leonard next off season with some additional cost cutting trades.

I doubt Love wants to play with James again.
I also think that players are seeing the negative side of playing with Lebron.

Apparently, Kawhi, Durrant, PG13 and others see their current situations as being much better than teaming up with Lebron in LA.

So does the eastern conference still exist anymore after this next season?

Quick on Love: "I'm not sure Blazers want to go that way (as in pursuit of Love) as they want to let Collins develop. And they'd probably have to trade CJ to get Love."

Meyers+Aminu+next years 1st & Clarkson for the TPE.

Tax hell for PDX but Cleveland saves 20M (+tax ramifications). They probably wouldn't do it though

Well, I called it. Not surprised at all:
Cavaliers Open To Trading Kevin Love

The Cleveland Cavaliers have insisted over the past few weeks that they would keep Kevin Love if LeBron James were to leave in free agency.

But multiple sources around the NBA insist the Cavaliers are open to moving Love.

Love can become a free agent in 2019 if he opts of his $25.6 million deal for 19-20.

Cleveland's first round pick is top-10 protected in 2019, which would incentivize the Cavaliers to embrace a rebuild sooner rather than later.

What if the Blazers go all in now and Send Collins/ET for Love and then send CJ/1st for Kawhi? Then they both bolt next season:)

Then we'd have Dame, Simons, Trent, Moe, Nurk and a bunch of cap space. Would be an interesting 18-19 season (albeit likely disappointing), and a very interesting (albeit likely disappointing) summer of 2019. Still, better to be relevant than safe and boring.

No pick in the draft and then having those guys walk would be yet another kick in the gut.

It would, no doubt. But I'm tired of sacrifice bunts. I need to see some from-the-toes swings once in a while.

Quick on Love: "I'm not sure Blazers want to go that way (as in pursuit of Love) as they want to let Collins develop. And they'd probably have to trade CJ to get Love."
I'm going on record right now. There is no way Cleveland would get anything close to a CJ for Love type of deal. Most teams that would want Love are teams that don't have much to give up.

Quick is wrong, as always. Looks like the market for Love is really low.

Wow Lowe and Windhorst think it would be hard for Cleveland to get a 1st round pick.

Could Leonard+Aminu+1st be enough? Lets do it
That would be amazing. Then use the TPE to get a first rounder back from Denver or something.

You wouldn't start love

Do the Denver trade first:

Wilson Chandler and a lottery protected 2019 1st using the TPE and throw them a future 2nd in the deal.

Then what if we offered both the Denver pick AND our pick in 2019, Turner, and Leonard for Love? It would help them suck more and they'd have multiple picks to rebuild with.

Aminu and Leonard isn't enough to make the trade work.

Yes it is

And i doubt the nuggets would attach a first to chandler who is a good player

Trade machine is broke, notice there are no numbers next to anyone's name. It happens every year when the new league year starts.

The Nuggets are desperate to shed money. We are one of only a few teams that could take a big salary from them without any money going back.

My gut feeling is, acquiring hometown Love would go about as well as acquiring hometown Stoudamire did.
