Kings in financial trouble

What happened to the Kings? I lived there during the Webber - Peja - Vlade days and it was fantastic.

Did Petrie lose his touch or what?

Petrie tried to keep a winner going too long. Eventually he ended up with too many overpaid guys who couldn't play anymore. Think about us the year we had Damon and NVE. Petrie just needs to burn the mother down, dump salaries, get young and cheap. He drafts well and has a good eye for talent and fit. He's capable of rebuilding the team. He's made a good start.

There's been a lot of rumors they will move the Kings to Anaheim.

Why would LA need three basketball teams? That would be very stupid.

With that said, why do people keep trying to upgrade our team via the draft? We need some veterans at this point. If the playoffs proved anything, it's that youth loses out to veteran experience. We need some seasoning.

Amen.

Now I'm not opposed to filling out the edges with draft picks (every team needs to keep the talent stream flowing inward) or if there was some can't miss guy available I'd happily take him, but boy oh boy does this team need some savvy/tough vets who can be counted on to come in and give steady night in, night out production that won't wilt in the face of some adversity.

Pass all you want. He kills us, and is one of the best young guards in the league. There is no way a player on that team, gurading the other teams best player on most nights is going to have a very good defensive rating. Is Kevin Martin the next great defender in the league...LOL no. But he would be no worse than Blake, and defenses would have a fit with a 3 guard line-up of Roy, Rudy and Martin

Just how many two guards does this team need ... and why in god's name would we add yet another sieve on defense? Is Oden not fouling out quick enough for your taste?

Artest fits this mold perfectly.

I've definitely warmed to the idea ... Although I doubt the Rockets let him get away and he seems to thrive under Adelman. How would he act and function under Nate McMillan? I'm not so sure.

artest fits the mold of giving steady night in and night out production? you must be watching a different player.

upgrading the team is upgrading the team. it should be done however possible. eliminating the draft as an option because you feel the team is too young is dumb.

and what in these playoffs has shown that youth loses out to veteran experience? these playoffs have shown that the better team usually wins. youth is irrelevant as long as you're better than your opponent.

We absolutely need veteran help. That said, assets are assets. Why spend a roster spot on someone like Ruffin or LaFrentz if you can use it to stash a player you can develop into someone of value.

This is not an either/or situation. You can do both...though sometimes I am not sure KP understands that.

What do the Blazers need?

-experienced veteran
-defense
-someone who consisently produces

Artest sounds about right for that.

if you exclude "someone who consistently produces" then i agree that it could describe artest. though the whole point of an experience veteran is the idea that they will make better decisions and be able to be consistently relied on. that isn't the case with artest.

Idk why you guys are worried about SF. Batum will be the starter next year and rightfully so.

The two main things the Blazers need to make it to the next level is a PG(hey Andre Miller) and Greg Oden to develop, with Oden being the #1 most important thing for more team success next year.

I don't think we can offer enough to get their top five draft pick no mattter how badly they are off in money terms, but I wouldn't mind buying the first pick of the second round from them and then trading the rest of our second round picks for future picks or trading up in the first round this year.

I'm sure he would. When a team picks you over Chris Paul, and you wind up being third string behind a couple of guys picked in the 20s, it must be humiliating.

In what alternate reality that you live in was this the case? Last I heard, Webster was out all year save for one pre-season game and 5 minutes in the middle of the season. Webster would have been the starter at the 3 this year save for injuries. Wishing that wasn't the case doesn't make it true.

Compound the Maloof's troubles with the State of California's financial problems, and you have a mess. Their best play is to move the team once again. Get a sweetheart financial deal and get through the next few years on fan excitement for a new team.

Both Seattle, and supposedly Vancouver BC are looking for teams. It would be great to get another team in the NW so we could actually have two teams in the NW division actually located in the NW. It would force another realignment, but would cut down on the ridiculous amount of traveling the Blazers have to do.

Of course, the Maloofs want to move the Kings to Vegas, but I'm not sure Stern would allow it.

BNM

:biglaugh:

Dude, what are you - his agent? Webster is a journeyman. Batum has earned the starting job, and Outlaw's ability to create his own shot makes him better suited to the 6th man role. Webster's best asset is his 3 point shooting, and we already have plenty of people who can fill that job.

Heeey, how 'bout the Kansas City Kings? We've got a great new arena here needing an anchor tenant, and that way I wouldn't have to drive 5 hrs to OKC to see the Blazers...

Haha, the circle of life. Next on to Cincinnati and then Rochester.
