My worst nightmare would be being rich and famous and then shooting myself. Oh wait.

I loved Nirvana and I hate Foo Fighters with a passion so I am still a bit bitter over Kurt's suicide. So, if he didn't want this stuff to happen he could have lived to stop it.
 
oh i dont feel bad for him....its just that I imagine this is pretty much the exact thing he hated about the music industry

Why hate the Foo Fighters? They had some good songs. I've always loved Everlong.
 
People in the music industry gotta make money somehow now. I'm sure now that Nirvana is gonna be on Guitar Hero, it will spur record sales...er...I mean pirated music downloads....

I can't know for sure but they never should have existed. Hole had some good songs too, hell, I just heard a new Creed song on the radio that I liked before I realized who it was.


What I mean is that Nirvana should have lasted forever and the Foo Fighters would have maybe been a side project that never left the ground.
 
I have no problem with Nirvana being on a video game. A lot has changed in the music industry since the days of Nirvana and I'd bet he'd be fine with it if he was still alive.
 
the foo fighters have put out some good music but think if he hadn't shot himself what nirvana could have been. grohl was just starting to write and that first FF album was stuff slated for the next nirvana album. they would have been an epic band.
 
As I understood, Kurt was upset at their extreme popularity and tried to make heart shaped box as weird as possible.
 
What's red, white, and gray, and has more brains than Kurt Cobain?

Nirvana would be like REM, Pearl Jam, or Soundgarden if Kurt Cobain was still alive. The best thing that ever happened to the band was Kurt's death, same thing with Sublime. I love both those bands but the lead signer/songwriter/guitarist dying was the best thing that ever happened to them as far as popularity and record sales.

Soundgarden isn't even a band anymore and I haven't heard a new album by REM in years. Pearl Jam is still prominent and have a huge following. If they could keep their sound fresh(good luck) they would have no problem remaining relevant. Look at bands like Radiohead, NIN, and Tool. They've been around since the 90's and continue to make big sales.

I didn't know Tool was still active. I was never a huge fan, but I'll have to check it out.

They've had two albums since 2000 both met with high critical acclaim. They have a couple songs on the radio I still hear all the time, "The Pot" and "Vicarious", that were off their last album.

I was talking about Tool but yes I love Radiohead and In Rainbows was awesome.

Radiohead has had 4 albums since 2000. Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail to The Thief, and In Rainbows.

Funny you list 3 of my top 5 favorite bands.

To be fair, NIN shouldn't really count in that as it's not really a band in the traditional sense. Trent Reznor writes and records all of the albums himself, then hires guys to play with on tour.

I think the most likely event that would have happened in Nirvana would have been Dave Grohl leaving the band to pursue what became Foo Fighters. Very, very few bands that have been around that long (assuming they would still be around today) have the original lineup. Tool and Pearl Jam are no exceptions.

I'd also like to say that for as much as Kurt "hated" fame and popularity, he sure embraced MTV. He (they) played MTV award shows, MTV unplugged, etc. Tool never did any of that, still maintains a big following and I bet maybe 25% of people could pick one of the band members out of a police lineup.

Also, Soundgarden is said to be reuniting. Not sure if that's true or not, but I remember hearing something about that a while back.

EDIT: I just realized you were referring to the musical aspect of these bands, and I addressed the "people" angle of them.

While I agree Radiohead is still making some great music (even The Eraser was a great album), they aren't even among the top record sellers. Their only hit in America was "Creep" and that could be one of their worst songs (IMHO). REM had an album come out last year to high critical praise, much like Tools albums, but most people who only listen to whats on the radio would never here anything from those albums. Soundgarden is not a band, but Audioslave has had a great amount of success (it doesn't hurt having Tom Morello as a guitarist). I just couldn't see Nirvana lasting, or keeping their sound "fresh". I'm not saying it would be impossible for Nirvana to still be relevant, but they would never have sold half the amount of albums that they did if Kurt Cobain wouldn't have died.

FYI Audioslave DID break up, and RATM and Soundgarden are going to get back together.
 
The Beatles, for Christ's sake, has a video game of their own. I think a song or two from Nirvana would be ok for Mr, Cobain.

I have not heard of either RATM or Soundgarden getting back together. From all the rumours RATM isn't getting back together, they had a reunion tour but are not planning any future albums. Zac De La Rocha is currently in a new project called One Day As A Lion with Mars Volta Drummer Jon Theodore. The only thing I've heard about Soundgarden's members is that Chris Cornell has been doing solo work but again no concrete article saying they're getting back together.
