If you realize that the league is all about revenue, and marketing that creates brand equity through super stars its easy to understand way there is a double standard. If the league and teams are run like a business its ok to treat players differently.

He should be in a 10 day quarantine. This is bullshit

I hope the suns fans make some kind of a chant about how LeBron should be in quarantine.

“It’s a violation of the agreed upon protocols, and, as we have in other comparable instances around the league, it has been addressed with the team,” a league spokesman told ESPN on Friday.

And this is why I can’t get too pumped up about the NBA anymore and why I shrug off the angst so many posters here have about a championship. For all the credit David Stern gets for “resurrecting” the NBA, he did it at the expense of small market teams. Prior to his arrival, most every team had at least a semi legitimate shot at a ring. Stern said, “Fuck that. We need the big market teams to win in order to get TV ratings. So the small market teams are gonna suck hind tit and hope for a lightning strike.” And every year, Portland fans get their hopes up all the while knowing their chances are slim and always will be, no matter how good the team might be. Portland actually did get hit by lightning when Paul Allen bought the team. And he made it clear he was all in and had the bucks to play against the big boys. So the league changed the rules to negate that advantage. Fuck the NBA administration in general and fuck LeBron James in particular. That ass clown needs a serious lesson in humility. What a travesty…..

It's not necessarily about big market and small market, or the Knicks wouldn't suck year after year.

It's about superstars. Stern realized that Bird and Magic and Dr. J were what sold tickets, so he grabbed hold of Michael Jordan and made the league entirely about superstar players. It shifted the narrative from rivalries between teams like the Celtics and Lakers, to now "LeBron vs Curry." That's when the refs started destroying the game with favoritism towards certain players.

My point still remains; the league administration is willfully (possibly even gleefully) complicit. And if it comes down to giving Giannis (for instance) a break over LeBron, it’s gonna be LeBron every single time….at least until LeBron retires or Giannis forces his way to a bigger, glitzier market. And there is no doubt in my mind that referees primarily exist to manipulate the point spreads……the league is rigged, no question. And watching NBA basketball has gotten to be like watching “professional” wrestling. All show and no go.

This I agree on. And maybe we would have gotten that kind of favoritism if Oden hadn't busted so hard.

It worked for San Antonio. A small market team that got hit by lightning twice with Robinson and Duncan. Great players the league (and refs) helped protect and showcase. I don’t want to take away from their achievements in any way, shape or form but I have always wondered how far we might have gone by now if Dame got that same kind of love and respect.
