It was eight years ago when a skinny and heralded forward named LaMarcus Aldridge would arrive for Trail Blazers practices to find that in the NBA, another day brought another battle.
Waiting for him was another Trail Blazers player, a hardened, determined and eager player called Zach Randolph.
"The thing you have to understand,'' said Nate McMillan, the coach of the Blazers in 2006, "is that Zach loved to practice. He loved to play.''
They would go at it. The kid against the star. And as the year wore on, neither could claim an upper hand over the other.
