OT LaVar is costing his son MILLIONS of dollars

Say what you want Bones. But IMHO if he were white it'd be different.
Okay... You could say that about any person we talk about on the board though. Ex. "Zach Collins wouldn't be hated on as much if he were black". "Lavar would be treated different if he were white". "Russell Westbrook would be more liked if he were white". "Donald Trump would get treated differently if he was a black president".

Do we need to point out every time someone's race has a specific affect on how they're being treated by the public? Because society treats people different based off race, so this could be said in any situation as it's normal. (I don't mean turning an eye to real issues)

Hilarious. Because I wasn't the one who brought up Zach's race. It was a white person. And it was a white person in this forum who brought it up before Quick. I don't see you asking them this question. But the second I do I need a talking to about it...

Only white people ask black people "why do we need to talk about race"...

To be fair, we all poke at MM and the few people that have made it about race.

Only white people ask black people "why do we need to talk about race"...
Lmao. Apparently you've missed the many times where I've gotten annoyed at WHITE people complaining about WHITE players. I've said shit like "Why do we need to define this player based off race when we could easily define him based off his play." I've gotten mad at MM for it. I've had a European get mad at me for comparing Luke Kennard and J.J. Redick to each other because he thought it was race-based, and I agreed in saying that comparisons shouldn't be made off race, and that it's off other factors.

With that said, don't go pull this bullshit with me. You're alluding to me being racist by saying I "wouldn't ask a white person why we need to talk about race". You've told people on this forum how they would act differently if someone's race was different, implicating them as racist as well:
But if he were black you wouldn't bring it up.
These situational instances aren't even based in any fact. I understand that some people wouldn't (bring stuff up because of race), but you point your finger at multiple people telling them how they would act based on race, and it's fucked up because it has no basis when it comes to that specific person. You're using the fact that there's oppression on a societal level against African-Americans to try and fit specific people into the mold of a racist by claiming they're acting in accordance to race.

You literally said only "white people ask black people...", lumping me in with "whites" and claiming that I wouldn't ask the same for white people. Even though I got annoyed at the race-based comparisons between Meyers and Collins. Someone was saying he watched Collins a lot in college so I asked
Then why are you comparing them for reasons other than their skin?
, as in, there's no other comparisons other than race. I called people out in that thread for bringing up race because there was no need for us to talk about race. And now you're claiming:

Not everybody is racist towards African-Americans like you think is the case. I'm dating a girl who's half-black. You played the victim card with that last sentence, by pointing the finger at me and claiming I act in accordance of race and claiming that's why I asked "What's the point in speculating on race in Lavar Ball's case?".

Should I use your famous closing of "GTFO"?

To be fair, Bones, I do believe you first fired off a comment about dviss bringing race into everything. I don't care to scroll back through the convo, but I'll take dviss at his word that it was other people that first brought race into the conversation. Regardless, race plays into everything in our society, and dviss was right about our society not liking loud-mouthed black men and that is partially responsible for the backlash against Lavar.

I've seen him do it a couple times, maybe I got confused with another poster and it seemed like he brought it up more than he does.

I even agree with your point, I'm just saying everyone's situation, no matter what color they are, is different because of their race and other's perception of it. Everyone's situation would be different if they were a different race, so you could speculate for days on what differences would be present if they were a different race. Because of that, I just don't see the point in it.

This was the point I was trying to make. Acting like it's untrue is cognitive dissonance IMHO. It's the reason we never saw Obama angry.

I didn't act like it was untrue, I just meant that I still think he'd be getting a ton of attention if he was white because of all the outrageous statements he's made. Because of that, race doesn't play a part in his attention as much as his mouth does.

My whole point is that I'm sick of hearing about Lavar when his boy doesn't even play for us. And my larger point is that he's harped on so much because he is Black. I don't think it would be the same if he were white. You disagree and that's fine. The bottom line is take that Lavar shit to the OT section because it's not Blazer related.

Sure, on a micro level we're all individuals - but that argument is rather reductive. Black people have a shared, common experience that transcends the individual. The repeating pattern is so vastly different, and more uniform, than the patterns of shared experience that any other race in the US have.

I hate Bill O'Reilly because he's Bill O'Reilly.

I completely disagree. Why don't people like Stephen A? He knows basketball better than damn near anyone in this forum. He is well spoken and eloquent. Buuuuuuuut since he's black and outspoken, all the other info gets missed or not cared about and he's known as screamin' A.

I've been re-reading Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man recently. I encourage everybody to read this book - it is, IMO, the great American novel. Here's a PDF for anyone who doesn't feel inclined to go to Powell's or the library:

One of my daughter's favorite books. She encouraged me to read it several years ago. I still have a copy sitting right here next to me on my bookshelf if anyone wants to borrow it.

You don't have any response to anything else I said?

I like Stephen A. Smith, hated Skip Bayless. Didn't disagree with the point you're trying to make, you just completely misunderstood mine and the way you acted about it was kinda fucked because you should know I'm not racist but you implicated me as such.

I wouldn't go that far, but I do agree he is underrated. He gets a bad rep because of his participation in the skip bayless clown hour.

If Lavar was white, he'd be publicly stoned for saying racist shit. But he's black, and he said racist shit about white people. So no one gives a fuck.

Do you not see the big OT up there?

Yeah, if he were white, he'd be president.

Seriously, I dislike Lavar Ball for the EXACT same reasons I dislike Donald Trump. It has nothing to do with race. They are both loud mouthed, disrespectful, attention seeking, narcissistic, racist, misogynistic assholes.

Concerning your "they killed MLK" comment. At first, I was taken aback by it. After all, I didn't kill MLK. I was 6 at the time. My mother's reaction to his assassination is one of my most vivid early childhood memories. My mom was a strong woman. It's really the only time I remember seeing her cry. When I asked her why she was crying, her exact words were. "They killed him and all he was trying to do was bring people together".

Is that some sort of metaphor for being condemned in the media, because I sure don't recall any white racists actually being stoned in my lifetime.

Funny, I guess you don't remember telling everyone to shut up about Lavar, when he said racist shit.

Remember? It was all false outrage. And white people weren't allowed to complain about racist people, because it doesn't affect us.

It's ok, you can pretend you didn't read this.
