Leonard torpedoes Jimmer

I agree. I like how people are trying to sugar coat this. If this was say a Laker fouling Dame or CJ like that I'm sure we'd be calling for his head.

Maybe, but I doubt we would have a separate thread about it. That is reserved for Meyers, because we don't have enough threads about him already. :emotions:

Meyers should be our third leading scorer but he isn't because he has yet to diversify his game. I like bigs who do big people things. I could give a shit about his three-point shooting ability to be honest.
I like players who do things that help the team win games. I couldn't care less if the bigs do big people things or if the smalls do small people things. Only thing that matters is if their efforts/skill-sets contribute to victories more than their deficiencies contribute to losses.

Well that would indicate that we both have our opinions. Here's another one of mine: I cannot wait until his soft bitch ass is off of the team.

I do think there is a big difference between a player on the losing team taking a last second shot and a player on a team with a big lead taking a last second shot. It is well accepted in basketball culture that when a team has an insurmountable lead, it is considered bad sportsmanship and even disrespectful for the winning team to shoot the ball instead of running out the clock. I do not believe the same is true when a player is on the other side of a blowout. Players on the losing end routinely try to get a shot up at the buzzer in those situations, even throwing up shots from half court.

When Jimmer went to take the shot, Meyers fouled him hard, looked pissed off, and pointed at the clock/scoreboard as if to say: Bad etiquette my good sir! (Or something like that.) I wonder if Meyers just had a kind of brain fart, having been taught and possibly chastised for taking a last second shot with a big lead. I wonder if he was confused about it, then someone explained to him the difference, and he felt foolish an apologized.

Having said that: I fucking love that he showed and has shown a kind of testy mean streak and that he would foul the guy hard like that instead of letting him score the ball, no matter what the circumstances.

Laimbiebs, you're going to be alright.

On one hand, the Blazers had just willingly given up a 24 second violation so as not to run up the score on the Knicks, and Jimmer trying to score was a dick move, and Meyers fouling him HARD was absolutely the right thing to do.

On the other hand, Jimmer's on a 10-day, trying to claw his way back into the NBA, and the crowd had been chanting his name for several minutes, so his dick move is mostly forgivable, in which case Meyers should apologize for the hard foul. Which he did.

Meyers keeps climbing higher and higher in my esteem as a person, hopefully his play will continue to improve so he will deserve the roster spot on the Blazers I hope he earns moving forward.

I just don't like his game. IMHO he should have a laser like focus on developing his post game. With his athletic ability he should be a pick & roll magnet just as much as a pick and pop guy. It's like he hardly dunks anymore. I sincerely hope we don't re-sign him.

Edit: Those 4 to 7 shots you want him to take? Those are all going to be three point shots... That's just weak to me.

I like his shooting touch, but his style of play just makes me judge his curiosity for the game.
I mean, how can you be so big and athletic and not do Olajuwon stuff all day at the gym? why pick 1 thing as boring as being a spot up shooter off somebody else's talent as your ONLY weapon?

How do we know he is not working his ass off developing post moves. My understanding is he did work on it daily before Kim Hughes was fired. Are we sure he stopped? I think on offense, Terry just plain likes him outside spreading the floor.

Dame and Cj wouldn't have tried that last minute pointless shit.

Jimmers shot attempt was a dick move. ML foul was well deserved. The post game tweet was a classy thing to do.

I see his game diversifying as the season goes on. I agree he should be focused more on playing the post, but this offense isn't built that way, and that is Stotts not Meyers... That said Stotts was coach of the month and is in the running for coach of the year, so I am hesitant to complain much. Meyers is almost automatic around the Free throw line and in, even when not squared up. The problem is the offense is laid out to spread the floor with one post in the paint for cleanup duties. Davis and Plumlee can't play outside the paint in a spread situation. Vonleh can't hit a 3 yet but is learning to follow through the paint.

Meyers statistically is better than Ryan Anderson per 36 but comes up short in the FGA territory. He is also becoming a solid defender in the paint and passes well. Yeah he's been a slow developer but he has become at worst a pretty good backup stretch 5.

I can live with that. He adds a skill set to our bench which is needed. He might not be happy with that role, and that is fine if it drives him to keep pushing to get better. But for the right price IMO he will be worth keeping. If he goes elsewhere.....that is fine too. But I hope we retain him on a cheap contract.

I don't see the problem with Jimmer or any other player taking a last second shot like that when the team is down. A lot of players do that when the team is down. It was an immature foul by Meyers. Plain & simple.

He worked his ass off shooting 3s everyday in practice so Terry puts him out there shooting 3s. I'm sure he would get more looks from short range or even mid range if he showed real interest at improving in those areas.

Even Vonleh and Plumlee are getting some shots from those ranges, ffs.

Plain and Simple? I think one can argue that since we took the turnover with 1 second left instead of shooting then they probably should have done the same. Personally I don't see it as a big deal either way, but IMO it goes both ways. If it is OK to shoot, then it is OK to stop them from shooting.

The object of the game is to win, the Blazers had done that. If one of their players wants to do something stupid, let him. I'm sure Leonards teammates really enjoyed standing around the court another two minutes watching NY hit free-throws instead of getting the hell out of there and getting on the flight to Boston.

Either way you don't foul him and prolong the game. It's fucking stupid.

That's what I'm saying... If the clock manager had done his job, he wouldn't have gotten one dribble. He got 3 and Beibs said "screw that." lol.

Doesn't the losing team usually play the last possession ?

Had the clock run out like it was supposed to... then the last possession would have been done about 2 seconds before the foul.

Interesting range of views on this.

It was a dick move by Leonard. Jimmer had thought time ran out and he was just going to put up a shot for the fans that didn't count. We had the game won. Turns out Jimmer added two points to his stats and Meyers adds a foul to his. Congrats Meyers on 'showing' him.
