Okay. But Ive also had about 15 years worth of home cable and phone installations all over the NW and been in MANY MANY homes and have seen first hand how lazy and spoiled people are. So we are biased to our own experiences. Fair enough.
Let me ask you something. If you call Comcast out to install something at your house, do you think the technician they send -- a complete stranger, mind you -- could come up with an accurate assessment of
whether or not you and your family deserve government assistance based on their experience servicing your house?
Acknowledging your bias is one thing, but it doesn't seem like you're trying to account for that bias. Your handful of negative interactions you had with people
as a cable guy might not be the best evidence there is to formulate a coherent political philosophy around.
And BTW, one of those people is my sister and i've continually harped on her hard core for it. Yes, she does suck. But you know what? I still love her and try to help in any way I can. I shouldn't have to be expected to do that for strangers.
Hey, my sister also stopped working and has been living off unemployment. I also love her and help her any way I can. Some people thinks she sucks for not going back to work because she's afraid of dying, and I disagree with that. I'm pretty glad that she's been able to be comfortable in this shitty time, especially since she already struggles with mental health issues and lives in poverty. I saw first hand how much that relief money meant to her and her husband. It was cool and good.
And you know, if it meant paying more taxes, I would absolutely sign up to help
your sister, a complete stranger. I shouldn't be expected to check up on her and offer her moral support, but in a civil
fucking society, I
should be expected to contribute to the common good so that
members of my community don't have to choose between food, shelter, or medicine, because that's morally wrong. When people
do have to make those decisions, it results in poverty, crime, homelessness, drug addiction, and violence. Those things are all bad! I want good things to happen to people, not bad things. I think that's pretty reasonable.
but anyway i sure hope most of my taxes dont go to the
fucking military whooooooops too late
Anyhow, we can agree to disagree on how we think people will respond to long term handouts. I personally think it will soften us and make us more dependent and less able to fend for ourselves and then when it all crumbles, that's when the masses will be truly fucked. We are already on a digital dependency. I don't want that for other things in my life as well. But I can respect that you don't feel the same.
My dude, when things collapse,
most of us are going to die, whether or not we've been softened by government cheese. If anything, you should be
for government handouts because it will make competition in a post apocalyptic society easier.
