Letter from LaMarcus Aldridge to Rip City

Some people root for individual players, some root for teams, and some just love basketball. Nothing wrong with that. Just remember that different types of fans have different priorities and will react differently to the same event.

I respect that. Blazer fans have every right to be upset. And I'm sure it hurts, but time will heal the wounds. But at the end of the day, know that LMA played out his contract and left for family and a ring. It could have been worst, at least he didn't leave for money or to be on a shit team so he can score 30+ a game.

I'm also a huge Roy fan, went to HS with him and Udub.

I blame Neil and Paul for not seeing the writing on the wall and protecting the franchise.

I blame LA for being a douche. He didn't have to say the things he said. I'm not surprised he left, but I am annoyed at how he did it.

Yeah pretty much agree with all of this.

It's entirely possible that Aldridge meant it when he said he wanted to be a Blazer4lyfe or whatever and then changed his mind when he saw things collapse. Not just the first round exit, but Wes Matthews suffering a potential career-changing injury and Lopez potentially not being brought back.

Could the Blazers have reloaded around him? Probably. But he had the opportunity to play for one of the three greatest coaches in NBA history, play alongside one of the ten greatest players in NBA history and contend for a title. I understand emotion is running high, but if you look at it in objective terms, it's a perfectly reasonable decision for Aldridge to make. It sucks for us, but it's not Aldridge's responsibility to make us happy.

Yes we get it, we thought we were hot and cute enough to keep LMA around but instead he left us for our mother.

Dear Rip City Two,

All you motherfuckers are gonna pay. You are the ones who are the ball-lickers. I'm gonna fuck your mothers while you watch and cry like little, whiny bitches. Once I get to Portland and find those fucks who is saying Damian is better than me... I'm gonna make them eat my shit, then shit out my shit, and then eat their own shit that's made up of my shit that I made them eat. Then the rest of you motherfucks are next.

Love, LA

Jay and Silent Bob are the best. "YOU are the ones who are the ball lickers" is my favorite line from the movie.

Kinda odd I keep seeing SA beat writers talking about LA at the five for long stretches. He's going to take his game closer to the basket..... All these things LA supposedly couldn't or wouldn't do, he's now willing and able to do in SA? If that doesn't say how badly he really wanted out of PDX....

Uh huh, it's not like LMA doesn't have a recent history of saying one thing and doing another.

I know. I'm like several others here, waiting to see LA be his typical self in SA.... Can't see LA the person just changing overnight.

Or what'll probably happen is he'll get injured more when he's in the paint more.

I don't think Popovich will demand he play closer to the basket. If he tells Aldridge to work on anything, I think it'll be to extend his shooting range. Stretch fours are extremely valuable and the Spurs were one of the first teams on the spacing bandwagon. If he can shoot from three and work successfully on the pick-and-pop with Parker, Leonard and Ginobili, that will both fit their system well and play to Aldridge's strengths.

While keeping his residence in Los Angeles. Lol

Did you know he actually lives in LA?

Meanwhile some shit you can tell was actually by the player and from the heart...Nico

When asked what he will miss most about Portland

And that is why I will give Nico a standing O when Charlotte comes to town. Also, he's tweeting in his second language (except for the last).

I think la did make it clear that he was leaving. I think it was hubris that kept us thinking we could convince him to stay.

Wes's ankle injury was after the trade deadline right? If the injury happens in December I'm guessing he goes to Neil and says "I'm leaving in July, so start looking for a trade partner."

That would have been nice and all, but at that point the trade market would have shrunk considerably. Plus, I think most teams would have feared that he would bolt. Our one good shot was that the Cavs were stupid enough to overpay, like they did for Love.

I'm sure somebody would have thrown something together to get him, which still trumps what we got.

My main point is that it's really about timing ... god awful, shithouse, fuck-my-life-as-a-blazers-fan, typical timing.

Something isn't always better than nothing, and I would have my doubts that we would have been able to actually get anything of real value at that point, but you might be right.

Yup. They could have done a million different things but all things considered, Neil probably made the right choice. Even if the end result is bend me over and plunge my cornhole with a cactus painful.

I mean shit, even if Neil wanted to blow it up after the playoff win, PA would have never let him.

I think he wrote it. You guys need to take a timeout. Not everything you read on the internet is true. I mean if the guy really wanted to screw us he would have just sat out the rest of the season when he got injured. But he didn't, I believe he genuinely considered Portland until the last day, but at the end playing in the side of your idol, close to home and his family swayed him. Remember that Portland was a serious contender until Wes got injured. I just think you guys need time. Just stop it, stop the personal and character attacks, just stop. You all look silly. I just had to get that off my chest. I know most of you will disagree with me, but that's the way I see it.

I no longer have any personal feelings toward Aldridge at all. Not like, not hate, but above all, not respect. He's just another great player in the league. I will never think of him as a Blazer. He'll visit two times a year, and to me it will be no different than Blake Griffin coming to town.

I think he's cool flushing nine years down the drain. And I'm cool forgetting he ever wore the Scarlet & Black.

Absolutely. If he was adamant about not playing C while here, even though it could have benefited us, then goes to SA and does it with no questions asked, just goes to show you how dedicated to Portland he really was. It's still yet to be seen if he will play minutes at C, but I think it's pretty much a foregone conclusion. To that I say good riddance.
