Lillard overrated?

Clearly the most overrated PG in the league is Derrick Rose.

One thing they talk a lot about when it comes to Lillard is his ability to run the pick and roll. It's a strength of his. One radio play by play guy said he ran it so well that it makes him think of John Stockton. So...If Damian wants to make a name for himself and set himself apart from these other score first points. Perhaps he needs to focus on this one area. Area of distribution. We all know he can score. Everyone of those top tier point guards can do that. But not all of them are great distributors. As a matter of fact. I think it's a lost art. They just don't distribute the ball the way they did, 25 years ago. So if he is looking for away to set himself apart from the rest. Maybe he needs to perfect his game in this one area.

I would love to see him average 10 assists a game. At least. And make them think of him in the same sentence as John Stockton.

I think adding Williams, Wright, and CJ will definitely help Dame wrack up some dimes this season.

Agree, the extra depth will help.

The other area he can set himself apart from the rest is in the area of defense. He seems to be pretty serious about it. When he gets his shot he needs to listen to everything GP has to say. GP helped turn Kobe into one of the leagues best defenders. I feel he can help Damian be just as effective. As a matter of fact. Damian, his size and build reminds me of Payton's. If Damian could be Stockton offensively and GP Defensively. That's a pretty good ball player...

You know, Lillard had a better rookie PER than Wilt. He's going to score 100 points in a game and average over 50 for a season. For sure.

This is all true. But don't worry Denny, one day DRose will overcome his phobia of round orange things. Baby steps. I heard he's growing pumpkins in his back yard.

No one else in the history of the league has had a better rookie regular season resume.

Yet, few people are saying he's the top 5 in the league. He's neither overrated nor underrated.

Just pointing out the absurdity of the logic.

What we want to see is Lillard go from a 16 PER to a 19 PER or something like that.

As for Rose, I didn't want him to play last year. Don't want him to turn out like Oden.

I had zero expectation he'd come back last season. Guys with similar injuries came back and took weeks to regain their confidence, if at all. After the team cut loose guys like Asik, I knew he was going to sit the season. Why risk him getting hurt again on a team that isn't trying to win it?

I think he'll regain his confidence by playing with the guys in preseason and he'll have had the whole summer to work on conditioning and strength.

Maybe he won't come back at anything close to his previous level of play. There's that chance, too.

I hope not. I like DRose. Fun player to watch and I think he has a bright future. After watching Roy get cut down in his prime, I really hope it doesn't happen to Rose.
 
I don't see why people are so afraid to admit Lillard can and imo will enter that elite level PG list. Is it because he isn't flashy like Irving, Paul, Westbrook, and Rose? He has so far straight up balled against some elite level players. He put up 38 on Kobe, 29 and 35 on Parker, 37 on Curry, 33 on the Heat, and I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of good games against good players.

He was only a rookie and broke a ton of records and joined a lot of elite level players in rookie stats. It's not that far fetched an idea that he will just explode and turn into the next big thing.

I don't worry about his injury as much as his confidence. Sometimes guys get injured like that and decide the outside shot looks safer than driving to the rim. It will be interesting to see how he responds.

There is a major difference between a rookie that played one year of college, and a rookie that played for years of college. Lillard put up great numbers because he came into the league NBA ready. I'm not saying he won't improve from his rookie year (and if he doesn't I wont be disappointed), I'm saying that it's not fair to compare Irving's rookie year to Lillard's rookie year and expect that same of jump.

Age means nothing. Players use to stay three or four years of college and they still got better through their career, why can't Lillard just as easily make that jump? Experience in the NBA is what makes players better, Lillard has 82 games under his belt, he is only going to get better.

I don't think this will happen. Because I think his body and height will yield to greater improvement overall. But...

Anyone remember Damon and his rookie season?

As for the link, you have to read between the lines to get the actual answers to the questions. Read everything and you will see that the truth is......

Russell Westbrook is the best PG in the league (after all, at 2nd team All NBA,he was)
Damian Lillard is the most underrated PG in the league (no one mentions him except to say he's overrated)
Chris Paul is the most overrated PG in the league (if Westbrook is obviously the best then Paul is overrated by definition)

Remember how ordinary he turned out?

I think his size and physical consititution played a bigger role in how ordinary he was. Lillard, I don't believe suffers that same problem
