I'll double it if you carve it in with a dremmel.
That would take it from prank to Measure 11 assault. I'm not doing prison time to get that jerk!

From Pete on Damian Lillard:
I am a faithful reader of your column and you are a great sports writer. With that said why are you being so hard on Damian? He is a 2nd year guy i'm excited we have on our team and he is doing a great job in my opinion.I'm sure at his age and being as good as he is he has a little cockiness when dealing with certain people, but please don't mistake confidence as cockiness and please cheer this kid on instead. We need him and a couple more players like him in my opinion. Thanks PeteThanks for the email. Damian is a very good player. An All-Star. The reigning Rookie of the Year. My point this week is that we have a curious and small-minded habit in this market of overvaluing our players, elevating their profile before they've truly achieved. We give standing ovations for decent performances, or simply for a player checking into his first game (See: CJ McCollum), the Blazers have 11 retired jersey numbers (more than the Bulls/Spurs combined). And Lillard is a prime example of this. He's very, very good. But if he wants to be great he needs to improve on the defensive end of the floor, and limit his inefficient nights offensively. Maybe he doesn't want to hear it. Maybe his biggest fans don't either. But it's the truth. Lillard, and most of his teammates, have won nothing yet. Let's save the parade until after the title run. He took a funny passive-aggressive shot at me this week via twitter, but I like the guy. I like, most of all, that nothing on the court happens faster on offense than Lillard wants it to happen. Nothing is a big deal to him. His reaction this week might be the best defense he's played all season.

That's what I was going to say. Canzano's response to the negative response to his rants about how mediocre and pedistrian he thinks Lillard is, is that, "Hey, I'm not complaining about Lillard, I'm complaining about all the small-minded idiots in Portland who read my column, listen to my show, and follow the Blazers. Why can't you idiot fans be smart like me?"So it's not Lillard that Canzano is complaining about it's how much the fans love Lillard that he doesn't like.
Oh, and Lillard is passive aggressive and he hurt little Johnny's feelings.

Apology accepted.

If only we could be as big-minded and sophisticated as our resident columnist.
Reading this answer to the question, I'm more convinced than ever that he has outgrown us. I'll weep in my pillow at night, but clearly he needs to move on to a larger city that will better appreciate his talents.
He's not moving for many years. His daughter lives here and while his wife is a good TV reporter I don't think she is big city TV good. Which must make things a joy in the Canzano household, "I could be a big shot in NY or LA if it wasn't for you two holding me back!"
I would add that's Canzano's argument is classic straw man. Nobody thinks Lillard is perfect. We know he has areas he needs to improve (defense) and room to grow as a player and a leader. It's his second year in the league for christ's sake. Why the fuck can't fans be allowed to be happy with a little success? Why the fuck can't fans appreciate and praise Lillard for the talents he does have, and the joy he does give us more nights than not? What the fuck is Canzano's problem exactly? Jealousy? I wish that pencil dick mother fucker would get hit by a bus.
Portland fans are giving Lillard too much credit? All star weekend he was being plugged more that what a Canzano hair transplant would look like. Lillard is definitely being hyped as one of the future faces of the NBA by the league. Portland fans should be allowed to enjoy and celebrate that we may potentially have a superstar on our hands.
Leave it to the clown to do a song and dance that Blazer fans are too passionate. Let us all hail to John who is above all of us and has a much more realistic and better perspective of the Blazers than us fans who have "small-minded habit in this market of overvaluing our players." We all can't be as big ego . . . I mean as big minded as you John.

You're right. Canzano would never stand up and cheer for a rookie who is coming off an injury and playing in his first game. I guess smart fans would have booed CJ McCollum.

tell us how you really feelTRADE CANZANO!I'd love it if that became a thing... "Cazanwho?" Run him out of town!
[video=youtube;g4bftQ4xxFc]I actually don't see why people don't like Canzano. Yes, you can completly infer that I do like Canzano.
You basically have 2 parties. The Blazers are all about "Sunshine and lollypops" and "Feel-good" fluff articles. The Blazers do their best to ignore the elephant in the room if they had any chance to make themselves look better.
Canzano (The second party) will not hesitate to call Paul Allen and the Blazers out on some of the garbage stuff they have tried to pull over the years. Anyone remember the Darius Miles suspension and return of the fine money?
This market would be completely "Snowed Over" if we didn't have a guy like Canzano in this market. Whether you agree with Canzano or hate him, he does give you another piece to the puzzle about the Blazers that the Blazers themselves won't provide you.
I like the Blazers and I like Canzano and while they clearly hate each other, I feel like a more informed fan listening to them both.
[video=youtube;7pdWAcK6Eh8]What the hell is going on?
The "I'm sorry but its the truth" line from calzano is word for word mixum...how amazing would that be
I clicked the link so you all don't have to.
Here is what he said,
Introduced myself to Damian Lillard just now as the Trail Blazers were taking the court for a closed-court walk through. He smiled when he saw me coming. We shook hands.
Taller than I thought he'd be.
Lillard tweeted earlier Wednesday:
Who is John canzano and why do ppl keep mentioning him to me
This in response maybe in part, to my column on Lillard's All-Star pentathlon, which put himself in front of the team. Maybe, too, in part due to my radio rant Wednesday that we chronically overvalue our performances in Portland, and hand out standing ovations as if they were handshakes, Lillard included. Is it possible that Lillard is very good, and an All-Star, but that he still has holes in his game that need to be fixed before he elevates to "great" status?
Lillard is an All-Star, true.
He's carrying the Blazers with LaMarcus Aldridge injured, absolutely.
But also, he's shaky on the defensive end of the court. The other night vs. Denver Lillard shot 8 for 20. Two games ago vs. Utah he was 11 for 28. That's not great. Just ok.
Anyway, either Lillard was being passive aggressive or he really didn't know the name of the columnist/radio host who has stood at his locker, talking with him, asking him questions and interviewing him on radio. Just to be sure, and to put this to rest, I waited on the court before the game vs. Brooklyn tonight, and as the Blazers came out for a closed shoot-around I stood, looked him in the eye, introduced myself, and shook his hand.
Lillard laughed.
I also introduced myself to Terry Stotts and Nic Batum.
No hard feelings?
"Naw, we're alright," said Lillard.
Just alright, see? Not great.
I don't want to cross that line where I am being a Canzano homer because I'm not but he is good at what he does.
Canzano has won numerous Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE) awards.
In 2010, the Society of Professional Journalists named Canzano the National Sports Columnist of the Year for his work the prior year.
In 2009, Canzano was voted America's No. 1 sports columnist by the APSE, for 2008.
In 2007 and 2008, the Associated Press named Canzano the nation's No. 2 sports columnist among large-circulation newspapers, with Canzano finishing second to the Los Angeles Times’ Bill Plaschke both times.
Canzano was recognized by The Press Club of Atlantic City as national sportswriter of the year in 2004.
In 2013, Canzano won first place in Special Topic Column Writing in the Best of the West contest for his portfolio of columns that included a column on a soldier who died in action in Afghanistan and Canzano's own experience coaching a girls fourth-grade volleyball team with a player who has Down Syndrome.
In 2002, Canzano was named the nation's top investigative sports writer by the Associated Press News Executives Council[10] for his enterprise piece on Carlos Rodriguez, a 21-year-old Dominican basketball star who was masquerading as a 17-year-old high school basketball player.
Canzano is a three-time Oregon Sportswriter of the Year winner.
On July 7, 2007, the Portland Beavers' Triple-A baseball team held "John Canzano Bobblehead Night."Also, on Aug. 29, 2009, the LPGA Safeway Classic featured "John Canzano Bobblehead Day," as part of the tour event held at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Oregon.
I understand that many blazer fans hate Canzano because the blazers hate Canzano but he does do good work.
