Yankees are planning on trying to keep it under 189 next year according to http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/yankees/post/_/id/65652/yankees-magic-number-189
"The thing is, they might not have to spend all that much more, either. Right now, they have $93 million committed to seven players: Alex Rodriguez, CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira, Derek Jeter, Ichiro Suzuki, Alfonso Soriano and Vernon Wells.
If A-Rod and his $25 million paycheck get out down for the year, that number drops to about $68 million."
so that leaves $96M to sign 18 players... or a $5.33M average each... still significant... or if we were to loose A-Rod's money for suspension reasons, that would be $121M for 19 players or and average of $6.37M...
obviously, they won't all get sizeable offers...
Now, if they do find a way to retain Cano which I think is absurd considering his asking price (both $ and years) there should still be some left to go around...
BUT... who out there is really worth anything?
